the problem is when people think that MIMOS is a company that produces computers. that is totally wrong. MIMOS doesn't produce computers, even MakCik PC was designed by MIMOS, but it will be manufactured by MIMOS Smart Computing (a different company with same name due to historical background). yes, a lot of money has been put into MIMOS. but they are for R&D purposes, and not merely for producing computers. remember when internet was brought into Malaysia through Jaring? Jaring was MIMOS project, although now they stand on their own. a lot of current technology in ICT in Malaysia were developed by MIMOS. and future technologies like Wi-Max, Wi-Wi, Mesh Network, Internet 2, Artificial Intelligence, Enterprise Gateway, Digital Home and many more.... they are all coming into Malaysia through MIMOS. and they are have target markets. MakCik PC is targeted to narrow the digital divide between urban and rural areas. so forget about the spec. it is a much better deal than having them spending rm700 for a PII computers like what is happening in the kampungs currently. MakCik PC is not for gamers.

and for those who are still confused, MakCik PC is a codename. like SRM for Satria Neo, Longhorn for Vista etc. the official name will be:

A good start for Malaysian by the way. We should spend more on RnD.

well discussed, haha goldy and linkin.. well i think malaysians have an issue with purpose. A lot of people here dont buy things for a purpose, rather buy it for bling bling and for a show pony. Not many are born with the prowess to have a thought process. Not that our schools teach it.

By the way, this would be a great tool for the underpriviledged citizens because its a tool for purpose and not a show pony like many here. In fact, i have done an observation, that if u were to keep data from uni for 3 years, at most u might just need a 1GB of HDD space, and mails are pretty much 3KB unless someone sends you porn or pictures.

The people in kampungs or the makciks, dont worry about how great it can overclock or can play games, they want to communicate and be able to send emails and do documents when needed. My dad earns a 5 digit salary and hes IT savvy, but he still uses a pentium 3 laptop for the last 6 years with no problems at all.

I asked him why dont u get the latest stuff, since he has all the money, he told me, i only use it for emails and documents, i dont need a c2d to do it, thats purposeful computing. Regardless whether mimos or Ibm, this ppl dont care, as long it serves well.

Good stuff.
