u cant blame consumers for having negative mentality on malaysiaz product. Use ur finger and count what are the products with quality which we've produced so far?

anyway cheap tablet pc like this could also be a quality 1. the question is, will they produce a cheap quality product or will they start off with more money going into their pocket than money spent in producing them.

now i know why it call "makcik PC"  cool2.gif  b cos it only got 2gb HDD.

and so? EEE PC 2GB space also. you might as well bash EEE PC as well.

n "A PC IS NOT AN ENTERTAINMENT HARDWARE BUT A HARDWARE TO DO WORK ON" erm...... this 1 ah, i wonder will suitable for younger generation to WORK on it??? 2gb??? my pendrive only is more then that ler.. laugh.gif ..
*

doh.gif of course it'll suit. just because people are from "younger generation" that doesn't mean they need more disk space. a typical document uses like what, 50 - 100kb space, and do you know how long / how many documents it takes before even reaching 1GB?

not enough space? use USB Drives, cheap nowadays.

QUOTE(UPM_Parasite @ Dec 1 2007, 09:23 PM)
but nvm since it call MAKCIK PC so the speed only = speed of makcik berjalan  sweat.gif

the EEE PC is low spec but surely not a loser in terms of responsiveness in use. same can be done for MCPC.

i don't think we should EEE PC vs MAKCIK PC.

however, if you notice so far i'm using EEE PC in defence of MAKCIK PC. smile.gif

i don't think the higher-end MCPC would be a worthy buy since EEE PC is a few hundreds more BUT on the other hand i think the lower end MCPC should be nice, assuming it comes with WiFi and all, it's a handy device to bring around.

yeah well said, MCPC is not too bad, with price tag below rm600 hv touch screen, wifi capability, stop comparing MCPC with your called "high end" pc, still no news on the spec tho

and for someone who live in cave and know nothing about eee pc and simply bash MCPC, pls click link below... learn something from there and stop posting crap

http://eeepc.asus.com/global/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASUS_Eee_PC

eee pc come with 2gb, 4gb and 8gb version and the price is between us$199-us$399

IMO, makcik pc is good start for those who doesnt know to use pc, especially local 'makciks'. many of them afraid to use normal pc because:

-too high end. afraid might damage the pc.
-dont know how to use it
-cost a lot for maintainence (especially rural areas, where pc shops always take advantage to these makciks with charge them with 'insane price just to remove virus'.

for me, this PC purpose is not for work 100%, it just to introduce the basics of pc to 'makcik', and of course, the younger generation (i mean very2 young, like those in kindergarten).

the GUI for this pc i think doesnt have much difference with the device use at petrosains (for those who once use it). very user friendly.

i think its a very good effort to provide very cheap PC especially for rural area people/low budget ppl but i'm not very happy with its name though. They should come up with more attractive name...

It shows the target user. I think it was a good idea to use an elderly man instead of a model as it shows it's easy to use.

- Read Goldfries post above. Only real discussion and not one liner spam
- It's not for entertainment. I don't know about you but a PC is for WORK. Only Malaysians can mistake PC for an entertainment device.
- @angelic-x: I'm using a 14" monitor. So?
- @zeustronic: everything is relative. High end here means that it's more powerful than the USD100 version.
Personally, this is a good project ecspecially if this can be done in the kampung area. I'd done a similar project for my village earlier this year with the help of Machang Parliment rep, where we provided the Balai Raya with several PCs for the folk to use there. It goes quite well until a recent flood shortcircuited some.

You know what would be a good idea is if they can rent it like a landline phone. So you apply for a phone line, and instead of getting a phone, you'd get one of these things.

i think that's too much for malaysian... local mentality still cant except changes and "dumb youngster" who loves vandalism would like to try on the gadget... unless it is equipped with bullet proof shield to cover its lcd, aloy casing, anti rust and highly durable...

actually, what is the real name for this "pc" (not sure to call it pc or not coz i'm not clear with the spec but seems that it's using embedded OS, non windows nor linux).. all i know is "makcik pc"...

True the thing needs to be durable. People by and large don't like change, that's why people study change management in colleges smile.gif

there will be two type of tablet pc's:
1) makcik pc(MCPC) for rural makciks (seriously)
2) eRazr(pronounced like 'eraser') for students for k-school project

MakcikPC is aimed to overcome the digital divide problem in Malaysia where rural people are digitally left far behind the urban people.

eRazr is, obviously, to cater the needs for (real) smart school environment. for those who went to MIMOS booth during NICE exhibition you will notice the section on IPv6 source specific multicasting(SSM) media streaming. this also to cater for k-school project.

it's still in development. there's some problem with the wi-fi and sound card (but wi-max is working)

these two are REAL low-cost PCs. so if you want something with gamers' spec, this is not for you. forget the hype, they were designed to fulfill what they need to->low cost PC everyone can afford.
hard disk space will be varied, so don't worry much about it. i myself not interested in this product, but if i want something for my grandma, this will be perfect.
