Has anyone tried to install XP in M1530?

Vista is really slow and it's gaming performance is really bad.A similar spec 6 month old desktop run UT3 much better than my M1530 with better visuals and performance.CoH:OF runs much better in M1530 due to DX10 with similar graphics setting.

QUOTE(derred @ Dec 18 2007, 04:13 PM)
u can't compare desktop performance with laptops. U have similar spec, that means the desktop will performance much better, regardless how old is ur desktop. Computer is not human, their performance doesn't rely on age at all.

Say u have 8600gt for desktop, the graphic performance will definitely be better than 8600m gt. U know what I think, I think u expect too much.
*

I do know that a laptop's performance is worse than a desktop but the performance gap between them is way too much. The C2D desktop can run the game almost on full setting(5/5).The desktop only lags when there is water where they use real time fluid dynamics in water. My M1530 cant even run 3/5 at all and it's optimum setting is 2/5.

I have lots of experience in gaming on a laptop and the difference shouldnt be this big.

XPS is Dell's gaming range and it's gaming performance shouldnt be this bad.I havent even tried rig killer games yet.

i assume is vista making the game performance bad...maybe u should try installing XP in it and try the games again....i am pretty sure the performance will increase
*

Yeah,im blaming Vista too but the tech guys at Dell told me that this laptop only have Vista drivers and there is no XP drivers.

Anyway,im trying to update my drivers and try again.I dont think a 8600M GT is that bad for gaming.

QUOTE(22 @ Dec 19 2007, 12:13 PM)
Well then, mind posting up some benchmarks? I'm kinda trying to draw up some comparison here. BTW, have you got the latest drivers installed? It does seem to help with the FPS alot, that and force activate DX 9 for any dx 10 games, it'll boost your performance by a hell lot while not really compromising any visual effects, too subtle to me.

Besides, you sure your 8600 GT isn't the 256 bit version with 512vram? Cause the laptop version's only 128 bit, therefore, setting a high resolution would definitely kill it.
*

What kind of benchmarks do you need?So far,i have tested UT3 and CoH:OF on it.UT3 runs badly.2 out 5 in the Texture Detail and World Detail.100% for Screen Processing and running with 800x600 resolution. My M1530 is the standard one.The C2D rig that i have can run UT3 with 5/5 setting and only lags when there is water.Running with 1024x800 and Screen Processing 100%.

For CoH:OF,this com seem to run better with better visual quality.Maybe due to DX10 in Vista.I still need more time to config the game further.

I usually dont run games on high resolution. The most is 1024x800.

I just got the latest driver from Dell's site.Does beta drivers from nVidia site works on a laptop GC?

How do i force UT3 to use DX9 in Vista?Windows XP SP2 compapility mode?

Mine is the 8600GT with 256MB VRAM but im not sure which version is it.

QUOTE(derred @ Dec 19 2007, 12:14 PM)
Take a look at the config page here :

Dell Malaysia

dell US

[attachmentid=362918]

Notice anything? It says XPS gaming notebook on m1730, not m1530. And like I repeated at any other forum, saying any laptop that equipped 8600m gt as "gaming" is in fact overrated. It couldn't come close to 7xxx series high-end GPUs at all.

I created a thread specially for mobile GPUs for a reason.

Mobile GPU class listing~
*

I know 8600 is not a good gaming card.Even the desktop version is worse than the high end version of 7-series.8600 is just a 7600 with DX10.

Still,i dont expect it M1530 to be this bad in gaming.

U mean the card. Are u replacing it with something? I do agree about the Vista too, but SP1 is just around the corner. Hold on to it I bet u gonna be satisfied soon.
*

I mean the whole laptop since i cant change the card and im stuck with Vista till Dell release those XP drivers.

I just have no faith in Vista. From what i see,it seems like it's meant to be run on coms with quad cores, high end cards and 4GB RAM.Just like XP when it release. The M1530's gaming performance is horrible with Vista.

Im trying to change back to XP but there are some problems in finding the drivers.

Again,im not expecting it to run games on max setting.I just want it to run on a decent level that i have paid for.

If you really hate vista that much try "upgrade" it to XP.
Get the XP drivers from here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=193815
all drivers are being testing.

I will do the same when I finished some works on hand. The XPS is left untouched for 2 days. Do let everyone know your upgrade status.

BTW I do get 2 set of earphones. I think everyone is getting 2 since it got 2 slot for earphone.

With the reviews on SP1 RC, not much improvements, let's pray it will not be when it finally released.  hmm.gif

Thanks a lot for that link. It's god sent for me.Gonna start upgrading to XP soon and hope it can run UT3 at higher setting.

From that forum,i heard someone can run Bioshock on high on M1530.Sounds good to me so far.

Yeah,it comes with 2 sets of ear phones.

@000022,

Yeah,i do expect mine to perform averagely. It should be able to play latest games on mid to high setting on 1024x800 setting(Not DotA or some Korean/China online games).Im not expecting it to run Crysis on max.

My Vista is still using the stock setting and i didnt download any updates yet.Does it really help if i download those updates?

Anyway,a stupid question,do i need to install DX9 or DX10 for Vista?

Vista comes with both DX9/DX10. XP doesn't have dx10 for the moment, but there are rumors saying there might be a fix for it.

So u do use stock GPU driver? Try laptopvideo2go and see if that change anything. I thot u said u have lots of experience in gaming.. no offense but just saying things..
*

No offence taken but when it comes to drivers for laptop and Vista,im nothing more than a noob.

What other things i need to download for Vista to have a better performance in gaming?

@ Cheesenium

You could just safely update your DX versions, no need for installing for dx10, but an update for both is a must, it seriously is a MUST. Again, make sure it's the latest update from Microsoft.

As I have mentioned before, these updates and drivers will help your system tremendously, if not through stability then by performances. Drivers are a big boost in GPU performances, seriously, no kidding, 3d mark 06 may have a little rise in points, but that's just novelty, FPSes in gaming may be increased through a well programmed driver, In any case, I did some research and no, on stock values ( no overclocking for the XPS M1530) it should be performing just as good as mine (overclocked) or a bit better.

Vista has Graphical address issues, without updating that is, and is prone to BSOD in earlier versions. Don't count on Windows update to do the work, you'd have to start fapping err....updating

@ Derred

Err...whoops, I hadn't post my benchmarks on the benchmark thread, just on the Acer gemstone board, I promise I'll post UT3 and COH:OF (when i get the games) benchmarks  on the board.
*

Thanks for the advise, where do i download DX10 and DX9 update?I usually get them from game discs.

Yeah,im gonna start to download the SP1 RC1 tonight and hope for a better performance boost.

Anyway,i would recommend you to try CoH:OF for benchmark.OF is one of the "real" DX10 games out there and the visual difference between DX9 and DX10 is large.UT3 is not really a must.It should be almost the same as GoW since it uses the same engine.

No Prob, not many gamers in the Acer thread anyway, either they're closet gamers who're shy to come clean or...whatever... So how's COH:OP running on your desktop? Smooth? I had a chance on COH, I felt it lacked much of the intensity, but that's just me..

I recommend COD 4 to you, cause it OWNS...
*

OF is running smoothly on the desktop.

OF is a great revolutionary RTS.It takes some time to get used to it's game mechanics.Once you get it,you'll enjoy it.Oh yeah, play this game with a good set of speakers or head set. This game has one of the best sound effects.

So far,UT3 is running in the way i want.Running it at setting 3 for World Detail and Texture Detail with 800x600.It just lag once in a while and im still finding ways to solve it.

CoD4 owns.Tried it at a CC and i got addicted to it.The multiplayer part is so fun, especially after seeing my friend's face when i use a modified MP4 to kill them while they are all using stock guns.Regret getting UT3.Should have bought CoD4.

@derred,

What information do you need for the laptop game benchmark thread?Im thinking of doing some for UT3 and CoH:OF.

Mine also got that problem.Strange.

QUOTE(squall0833 @ Dec 25 2007, 02:19 PM)
I tested it on Bioshock and Medal of Honor Airbourne,  Bioshock can run at full settings and DX10 mode in 1280x800 resolution, and it's smooth

medal of honor airbourne full setting at 1280x800 might lag when any explosion effect made, or a moving large object in game..

when running game for a long time, the GPU temperature will up to 67-73 in normal room temperature with a cooling pad,
i have 9 cell battery, which is holding rear side higher, it has better air circulation and the heat not very high,
it is better u have a cooling pad if u playing heavy graphic game like  bioshock for a long time
*

I only can run UT3 on medium-high setting while your Bioshock run it on full details. What did you do to your XPS?

Anyway,i had lots of fun playing UT3 and DoW:DC over LAN with my brother.M1530 is a pretty decent gaming notebook.

Just one problem,my laptop tend to lag once in a while, regardless of what game am i playing. Is there anyway to solve this?

If i'm lucky it'll unfreeze and i can continue playing. If i'm unlucky, it'll shut the game down. today when i'm playing dota, it freezes for almost 30 sec then shows a blue screen with lots of words.

is there anythin i can do to repair this prob?

Mine also like that.It happen to all the software i run on mine, even IE.

It seem to lag much less now and im surfing without that lag now, after i reformat my com.UT3 seems to lag less now.

Is it cause by some defective fans or cooling device?
