QUOTE(metalz @ Jul 8 2008, 04:08 PM)
Interesting quote,

"Avoid the friend, neighbor or co-worker who works in computers, science or engineering and always talks about cameras. These people's passion is usually just for the cameras or computers themselves, not about photography itself or art or expressing their imagination visually. Watch out for people who prefer to talk about tools instead of actually making photos. There are thousands of people who watch sports on TV and can talk endlessly about sports stats for every one athlete who actually plays professional sports."
*

I think there's a continuous quote from that quote that you forget to quote:-
------>"This people are mostly nerds, sometimes fat, but most of the time wear glass. And they always like to pixel peep. They'll take a few photo but stay in the forum all the time to defend the gear they bought instead of taking photo"

Wah, I think you very bad to quote such a thing. Later people report you to the mod then how? shakehead.gif

QUOTE(greggs @ Jul 14 2008, 02:46 PM)
hey guys, not sure if i'm in da right thread but i'm actually seeking opinion from all the pro's here..

i've been using D40 for about a year, and i think its time for me to upgrade..

what i have in my mind is a D80 + SB800, but my fren told me that with that money, i might as well save abit more n opt for a D300 instead, upgrade once

so what do u guys think?
*

There will never be just upgrade once. Next year there will be new models, newer and better. Then you'll upgrade again? It's a neverending story. Just get what you can afford and stick to it. I don't think what with the money meant for D80 and a SB800 will be enough for a D300! If you have the money, then just go ahead with D300. So far haven't seen anyone complaining. whistling.gif

I think if you upgrade to semi-pro body, there'll be no more upgrade unless you want to go FF.

With the current FF getting cheaper, and until then, when your skill bettered the D300 (which I doubt),
you can upgrade the body.

Brand new D80 - 2.5k
Brand new SB-800 - 1.2k?

That is RM3.7k. A brand new D300 is RM5.3k. You are 1.6k short. Provided you wait a bit and then get the D300, you will still be missing the SB-800. Question you need to ask yourself is... what do you actually need?

Not want. Need.

Hi guys,

Can you please tell me if there's any nice location to take portrait shots in KL area? I need to do a portrait shot of a friend but so far we have no ideas where to go to. The last session we had in Tmn Tasik Perdana. So this time we opt for a different place. Any suggestions?

That depends what kind of feel you want to achieve. If you want another Taman shoot, then got Bukit Jalil Park, got a park at Kelana Jaya, got lots of park.

Abandoned buildings, most famous is Pekeliling Flats. Or you can always go KTM for that nostalgic feel.

What is your justification to upgrade from the D40 to D80?

You should know better wat. You the portrait king.

Sit on the Eye of Malaysia and take portrait shoot from inside the cabin. What else?

Go on the Putra LRT and take it there. Although it will be super crowded, but I think its possible after KLCC, since it gets quite empty. Same thing goes for the KTM train.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are thinking about Bukit Jalil Park but we're just not so familiar with the place. May i know what's the exact location? Is it the Bukit Jalil Club?

I think the Putra LRT is a great idea.

Btw, i heard that we need to pay for shooting in parks like FRIM or Sentul West. Is it true? How much do we need to pay?

Sorry to trouble you all as we do not have the time to scout for the places in advance and we feel bad if we had to drag our model all over the park looking for a nice shooting location. sweat.gif

I am not entirely sure about the Bukit Jalil Park but I believe it is not the Club. Some of the members here organised an outing there recently, maybe you can check with them.

FRIM you need to pay a very minimal fee to drive in. I think its RM5 per car or something. I can't remember how much I paid when i went there for macro shoot, but not expensive la smile.gif

You can't take photos inside the Putra LRT station but you might be able to take photos at the old KTM station in KL. The guards will halau u at the LRT stations.
