Will Go HK Next Week...

How Much I Need To Exchange For HKD?

7Days (Macau + HK)

5K HKD Per Person, Enough?
*

Hi Teckhooi,

Received your PM already regarding your request for itinerary. I will try my best to edit my initial itinerary as soon as possible and send to you later. Glad that you hv total of 7days for your trip, because mine only 4days3nights, not enough for me to do shopping.

In my opinion, 5K is more than enough for your expenses. Depends whether you are shopaholic and also if you will visit most of the place of interest such as Disneyland / The Peak/ Madam Tussauds / Ocean Park, then mostly you will spend more on entrance ticket.
Disneyland: HKD $350
The Peak-Madam Tussauds-Sky Terrace: HKD $180
2 way ferry HK-Macau: less than HKD $300
Octopus card: HKD$150

Since your're going to visit Macau, I recommend you go to 荷兰园 visit 二龙喉公园, then take tram to visit Guia Fortress, lighthouse & the Convent of St. Clare.

Anyway, I will post some of the photos in my blog, feel free to visit. However, pls forgive me that I only write until my 2nd day only.

Day 1: Macau-Mongkok-The Peak-Madam Tussauds-Sky Terrace-Central-Avenue of Stars Part 1

Day 2: Tao Heung Super 88 - Disneyland Part 2

Day 2: Disneyland- Jordan - Mongkok Part 3

QUOTE(snow.Flakes @ Jul 3 2009, 10:19 PM)
We used about RM10k for accommodation and food, not included flight tic (which cost us +- RM3k) for the whole 7D6N trip to HK last 2weeks.
I think should be enough but, bring more in case there is any emergency because the exchange rate there is quite high compare to Msia.
You can check out my blog where we've been during this 7D6N.
http://eternity-infinity.blogspot.com/ and it will be under June 2009 archive.

wow...so much for your expenses. My 2way tickets included taxes, seat selection, meal, bag fee = RM180, then 3 nights stay for HK/Macau cost me RM340, so total RM520 per person. I brought RM1200 for my trip but then spent another RM400 extra with credit card for a pair of Nike shoes and one Nike bag. haha...
Anyway, 2 of my friends together in my trip only spent RM900 per person despite of the RM520 flight ticket and accommodation. Really geng!

For me, I only buy normal octopus card at HKD$150 for my 3days trip, at the end I still left HKD $70++
but I still have to say, it depends how often you use your card.

Some advices for you:
1. Do plan your itineray in details including info about which MTR station and also which exit. It is because one MTR station has many exits and all could be quite a distance.
2. DO plan you Disney itinerary with the schedule given if you visit Disneyland. If not, you will miss out alot of shows.
3. DO sleep nicely and no need to wake up so early if you intend to visit some shops/shopping center even at Ladies Street, Sai Yeung Choi Street, Fa Yuen Street and Macau as well because mostly the shops open start from 11am. You can hv your breakfast around 10pm, then the time should be nice.
4. It's quite a distance from Central walk to Star Ferry Pier, unless you want to have another special experience, if not, skip it and take MTR especially when travel with elders.

Oh cause i go with my parents and we're taking CX, the air fare + tax itself already cost us RM600 so x 5persons = RM3k. And since there are 5 of us so we stayed in Evergreen Hotel's Family Room which cost us RM2100 (HKD 4250) for 5nights and another 1night in Shen Zhen is RM 140 (RMB 280).
So only accomodation and air fare cost us about RM5.2k.
The rest we spent more on transportation and food + entrance fee for Disneyland, Madam Tussauds Wax Museum, The Peak, Ngong Ping...... Oh and also shopping! My mum spent alot on shopping! LOL.

So since 5 of us are in a family so we cant really divide how many we used per person.
Anyone who going to HK, enjoy yourself to the max because HK = shopping heaven!
And the MTR is really impressing!

Macau have two ferry terminals, one is taipa terminal氹仔客运码头, just besides Macau International Airport only, destination is Sheung Wan上环. Another is 港澳码头,destination is Tsim Sha Tsui尖沙嘴。I chose Taipa terminal because we are travelling with luggage and elders, plus...MTR is just 2 level below after you exit from Sheung Wan Imigration Center. However, if you chose Taipa option, the MTR fare from Sheung Wan to Mongkok is higher. For TST you have to walk quite a distance to get MTR.

1. Taipa-Sheung Wan-intercharge Central-Mongkok/Mongkok East
(better confirm with Northasians whether you have to take off at Mongkok Station or Mongkok East Station)

2. TST MRT station-Mongkok/Mongkok East

Please check Hong Kong map and HK MTR map as well. It helps alot.

http://www.mtr.com.hk/eng/train/system_map.html

Hope these info help you.

I'm new to this forum, but would like to contribute some notes on HK. I stayed 9 nights in HK, end of Feb 2009. Will be glad to share my experience should anyone is interested.

These are the places that I've visited:
The Peak - Madame Tussaud's museum, walking trail @ Lugard Road
Stanley Market
Bank of China tower - observation deck on 43rd floor
Avenue of Stars, Symphony of Lights
Golden Bauhinia Square
Lantau Island - Big buddha, Tai O
Cheung Chau
Disneyland
Ocean Park
Man Fatt Tze (Ten thousand buddhas temple)
Wong Tai Sin Temple
Chi Lin Garden
Mongkok area - Ladies Street, Fa Yuen Street, Sai Yeung Choi Street.

I used all sorts of public transport-
Bus, Mini bus, MTR, Star Ferry, "ting ting" (tram)

IMO, taking MTR is easy, but not necessary be the most convenient.

For eg, to go to the AOS from Mongkok or Yau Ma Tei, just hop on to the buses along Nathan Road, that shows "Tsim Sha Tsui" on the signboard. Alight at the stop before the bus terminal at the HK Space Museum for AOS or alight at the bus terminal for the Clock Tower.

And here's another way of getting to the Golden Bauhinia Square:
Take the bus to TST terminal. Catch the Star Ferry to Wan Chai jetty. From Wan Chai jetty, it's just 7mins walk to the Golden Bauhinia Sq. It's a shorter walk from the jetty than from the Wan Chai MTR Station.

Just went to Tung Chung Citygate's official website. Seems like they don't have outlet like Bossini and G2000. Where can I find these outlets? Heard Bossini and G2000 is very cheap there, true?

Also I wonder how big is Tung Chung, just to estimate the time I'll spend there ? Comparable to 1 Utama new wing + old wing?
