ReactOS(R) is an advanced free open source operating system providing a ground-up implementation of a Microsoft Windows(R) XP compatible operating system. ReactOS aims to achieve complete binary compatibility with both applications and device drivers meant for NT and XP operating systems, by using a similar architecture and providing a complete and equivalent public interface.

ReactOS is the most complete working model of a Windows(R) like operating system available. Consequently, working programmers will learn a great deal by studying ReactOS source code and even participating in ReactOS development.

ReactOS has and will continue to incorporating features from newer versions and sometimes even define the state of the art in operating system technology.

In short, ReactOS is aiming to run your applications and use your hardware, a free operating system for everyone!

Please bear in mind that ReactOS 0.3.3 is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature complete and is not recommended for everyday use.

Originally it is called FreeWin95 based on dos-based kernel but later the project was renamed to ReactOS
ReactOS is a 100% Open Source (mostly GPL) rewrite of the Windows Kernel.

yeaaaah.... i agree... just try it on vbox.... can run... but a lot of unfinished functions... still alpha stage.... cant try my oracle run time coz i cant even find how to connect to a network drive.... the weird thing is when i burned the iso (only 40mb big).... the 1st menu runs the freeloader... and then it went blank... nothing for more than 15 minutes.... sighhhh.... never mind... still need to find other alternative for my oracle run time apps... (it is designed with "C:drive" in mind.... which we all know belongs to windows alone.... mad.gif

react >> once a notorious malware found in windows, bro_act a spin of infamous brontok virus. Once infected, it will re write the registry by adding _react at the end and your HD cracked with strange sound.

LOL, I thought this topic is the one

Ah, now I remember. React OS, I found this few years back, but it's dead, so I just forget it, with disappointment.

biggrin.gif this react is different than that react.... but if it's true that this project is dead.... poor thing... they can go very far with this.... especially when they build it from scratch.... I just have one question... how can they write codes similar to Windows 2003/XP kernel??? Microsoft open their kernel code to public???

Nope, Microsoft won't do such thing, but it's the work of the internals, they leaked the Win2k source code back in the 2004.

EDIT : O wait, or React OS devs simply took DOS kernel and rewrote it from scratch to make it the same as Windows' kernel, but better.

It just a beginning for the win32 base source code. build form scratch, it was a good idea.

for a while, alpha stage is tacking place. maybe next tomorrow, who knows, stable version gonna out.

yo myman what up . something is better that nothin' . just give your hand to make it up (unlike people that just make up for their own self yo).
