my vostro 1310 was great... running smoothly on the vista home basic................................. doh.gif

idiot vista made me furious bcoz i can't put it on LAN with my XP comp vmad.gif

the only choice right now is to transform my vostro to XP, or to scrap that desktop into a vista doh.gif

why can't they LAN properly vmad.gif

anyway, i like the vostro for it's simplistic design, uber cool reflective metallic colour-like top and the truelife screen. BUT NOT THE MONO-SPEAKER!

QUOTE(kepalapening @ Mar 20 2008, 08:12 PM)
I've successfully done it for my friend's vostro 1200. The only extra work needed, is to load the sata driver (ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/SATA/R171300.EXE). For vostro 1400, the sata driver can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/SATA/R167146.EXE. Without it, the WinXP installation will not recognize the hard disk. I slipstreamed the sata driver into the WinXP cd using nLite (http://www.nliteos.com/). As a result, WinXP can now be install as usual.

Waaah, thanks man for the info.
My friend said he had enough with Vista in his laptop and prefer Windows XP to be installed.
Despite favourable hardware specifications his softwares run like 90's computer.
Then I noticed Windows setup did not recognize the hard-drive of the laptop.

Yup, by using split-stream the task was easy enough.
So long Vista.

my vostro 1400 dead yesterday. It's been sick since Monday. Most probably because the 8400m gs issue. Poor lappie.

Hopefully the doctor will arrive early today to fix it.

-A bit disappointed with the reliability. Only 11 months then it's dead. Luckily i have 3 years warranty. So i guess it's will be replace 2 more times before the warranty end.

no no it's not Dell's fault
it's a global defect, affecting other brands also as long as they use Nvidia 8-series
i got lucky cuz it spoilt exactly 2 weeks before my warranty ended
And it should solve the problems
Nvidia forked up USD200M to replace new chips for the faulty NVidia GC worldwide

i notice several things after the dell technician replace my motherboard/graphic card

1. Temperature during playing game < 80C (Last time it's over 90) rclxms.gif thumbup.gif

2. For the first time in the game it says my current setting is too high although i have try to set the lowest setting (before this i never encounter that) cry.gif rclxub.gif

3. After wakeup from hibernate it keeps give warning about my power adapter not set correctly (this will happen everytime after hibernate. Not during startup/restart). Dell phone support ask me just to restart my laptop. rclxub.gif

4. I doubt Dell is replacing a new motherboard. I got the feeling that the motherboard is the refurbished motherboard. Somemore when the dell technician open the laptop i can see the chasis frame got a lot of writing that don't look appropriate. hmm.gif

I can say i give 2 stars out of 5 for the problem solution provided by dell.

actually i also think the motherboard is refurbished 1
what most probably they do is take back the previous motherboard with faulty GC, and refurbish
then put in the fixed GC, put it in into ur laptop
take out ur motherboard and refurbish
the cycle goes on tongue.gif
just what i think la, not sure they really do so la
