Just bought a new Vostro 1500, delivered fast within 5 days. Ordered by 14/8 evening and get the goods by 18/8 morning.
Here is my spec:
C2D T5470 1.6
2GB DDRII
128mb GF 8400GS
15.4' truelife
80GB HDD
DVDRW
9 cell battery
built in WIFI, bluetooth, 8in1 card reader
Win XP Pro

Overall so far so good. The LCD still has slighty light leakage problem, but it's fine for me. But i have formatted the harddisk, and didn't use the media direct at all now.

Thanks to Gen-X:

shiny shiny and not shiny shiny

steel ones or at least alloys of hardened steel-titanium-whatever-magica they have is somehow shiny compared to those mag-alloy. mag alloy has dull grey color

steel ones last very long. won't wobble and dun play play - most of the time business notebook

i wanna know whether vostro has it or not.

i am not sure, i havent try to open anything yet on the body.
i guess it'll the same as the new inspiron series?

here's a review from a vostro1400 user:

QUOTE
Everything else on the notebook felt very sturdy.  The build quality greatly exceeds the Inspiron e1405 (Dell's previous 14" notebook). There is little to no keyboard flex.  There is very little screen flex.  The screen and hinges feel especially sturdy.  The notebook's lid closes very nicely.  Unlike previous Inspiron notebooks, the Vostro 1400 has no latch, which is very nice for easy one hand opening and closing.

as I guess vostro chassic will be fully magnesium-alloy and inspiron are half magnesium-alloy.
so found that vostro are bit more heavy than inspiron.

it's seem like doesn't have any wobble problem for me...

my point of view on the disadvantage so far:
LCD light leakage problem, weight(close to 3kg i guess).

9-cell batt life gets you how many hours on typical usage?

i.e. medium backlight, wi-fi on, some musics and typing documents

put up some simple reviews - esp on batt life, weight, portability and ruggedness.

how flimsy does the hinge feels?

hi all, my SA just quoted me a vostro 1400:
T5470 + Vista Business w AERO + Truelife + 1GB + 80GB + DVD-RW + 8400GS + Bluetooth + 90W adapter + nylon case + delivery @ RM2831. Wondering why the price is much cheaper compare to Inspiron 1420, vostro is a business class with better built, right?

I think they offer merdeka package and free delivery.Maybe you could wait until tomorrow night.IMO Actually it's better if they offer 2GB of ram upgrade rather than free delivery.
