Broadband provider
ISP/package: 66 unlimited
Location: kuching
Have you called your ISP's helpline?: call many times already. No solution for solving the problems. cry.gif

Personal equipment
Modem: Belkin wireless modem router
Router:
Firewall used: Yes, certain port make it exception.

Problem details
First occurence of problem: Download speed very slow compare to other modem eg. Aztech.
Problem frequency: more than 50 times!!
Problem description: Open 24/7 , but only downloading. when want to surf certain website, it appears like offline. Even go to google search engine...but the downloading still running...in very slow speed. After restart router, then everything ok. As a conclusion, i need to restart router many times in 1 day. So pity of me.

Wanted to find the latest firmware but this is the latest already.... cry.gif

I can say i am quite sure this is not streamyx problem, because one of my fren use the same model also have the same problem. We try to use Aztech then OK. But we already bought the belkin 1.... so regret.. hope we dont need to sell with low price and to get the new 1...

Hi

Mine is Belkin F5D7633ak4A wireless router Modem, so far I didnt face such problem except I can't browse www.sendspace.com, www.mediafire.com, www.filefront.com. As far as I understand the problem is at streamyx coz I am not the only one having this problem.

Other than that, I dont have any problem though browsing sometimes slow. Maybe cause I dont use 24/7. * touch wood *

I'm using the same Belkin F5D7632ak4A, as well, and I seem to facing similar problem, so I'm reviving this thread. smile.gif

Ok, previously, I used Aztech, I can BT 24/7 with no problem. my Aztech got struck by lightning, so I decided to try this Belkin (lifetime warranty ma..).
I notice the problem only happens if I BT. I'm using utorrent and have port forward properly. Normally, I cant surf the net after few hours, maybe 6 hours or so. It can be fixed when I turn off the modem and turn it back on, but its really annoying, since previously my Aztech can go 24/7.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

So you're saying that when your download of torrent, after a while you are unable to surf the net and need to restart the modem ? In that case it is probably the amount of connections made from the download that causes the modem to run out of system resources thus causing it to hang.

That seems to be the case. You're suggesting me to reduce it than? Currently I'm allowing 30 active and 20 download connection, I just change it to 10 and 5 then. Will report back.

This is net.max_halfopen right? Mine is currently 8 (by default?) Is it too high?

Alright then have a try on this, however there will be no guarantee that it will improve by reducing the connections made. Sometimes it is more to a very low system resource in the modem/router by default that makes it unable to handle tasks under load.

Reducing the connection to 10 and 5 doesn't work, reducing further to 5 and 5 now.

Same model F5D7632ak4A. I wonder what's the max no. of half-open TCP/IP connections that this router can handle. Currently it's set to 512 in tcpip.sys and 128 for uTorrent (yea, I know it's high) which didn't cause a problem with my previous 3Com 3CRWDR100A-72 router.

Any suggestions? (Now that I really FEEL all the problems and issues with this product, Belkin sucks... Old one was struck by lightning =x)

I'm using F5D7632ak4A too, my BT speed and HTTP download can hit atleast 80kb to 189kb max for Streamyx 1mb package depending on torrents or seeds. For obtaining the max speed of BT, u need to fine tune some settings.

1. TCPIP.sys www.lvllord.de (set it to 100)
2. configure port forwading in BELKIN www.portforward.com
4. confirgure your BT client. I'm using BitComet 0.70 as it is more stable, other torrent client doesn't work for me
5. check your up/down stream in the router page, make sure your line is 2048/512 (1mb package) or 1024/256 (512kb package) disconnect the phoneline from socket and refresh the page
6. Most importantly ..... SEEDS smile.gif

Perhaps i can print screen my Belkin and BitComet settings to you, just pm me your email.

1. Their support told me the max. no. of half-open connections is 236, so I set the limit in tcpip.sys to 100 and 50 for uTorrent. They have yet to answer my question about the no. of concurrent connections(sessions) that the router can support. For the time being I have set the global max. no. of connections in uTorrent to 50 to be more on the safe side. We'll see how it goes...
2. Port forwarding is unnecessary as the router's UPnP is perfect (yeah, I have to admit this is one of its few good points).
4. FYI uTorrent 1.8 Beta works fine, try it for yourself.
5. The up/down stream in the router? You can't do anything about that.
6. More seeds is always welcome, but it depends on the seed: peer ratio too. And there are of course some fake seeds, and some peers that you simply can't connect to.

I'm still fine tuning mine too. Last week I manage to run the modem for around 1 week but I don't do heavy BT. I use the default speed settings for 512k speed in utorrent. (Options>Speed Guide>xxx/512k). I also disable DHT. But after 1 week need to restart, still trying to figure out why. Well at least its better than need to restart twice a day like before.

tcpip.sys:
- Maximum concurrent half-open connections: 100. Sufficient for my use and doesn't crash the router.

uTorrent:
- I have net/max_halfopen in Preferences > Advanced set to 50. Works fine for me.
- Using the recommended settings for xx/256k (global max. no. of connections/max. no. of connected peers per torrent - 130/70) caused my router to crash (sync and online lights on but can't connect). I'm now using 50/30 and have not had a problem. rolleyes.gif
- DHT and Peer Exchange enabled.

Can you explain more on the tcpip.sys - I've never use/heard of this before.

So you are using default for xx/256k and then change the max no to 50/30?

Thanks blackbox, I've got your email.

My settings is simmilar to you except:

1. I have not disable the firewall
2. I use channel 11, while you use auto
3. You have a more recent firmware, Sep 08, while mine is Aug 08.
Did you manage to update your firmware? I always get error message of "Cannot connect to firmware server, please check your WAN connection"

I'll take note of the difference and may adjust accordingly step by step later.

I'm talking about patched tcpip.sys in Windows XP SP2 or above (Vista included).
Look here for more info: http://lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=tools

Btw, my firmware is v7 so there's no need to upgrade it.

The firewall causes a lot of trouble. If you can do without it(most of us don't need it), disable it.

The fast connecting/disconnecting of BT causes the firewall to treat it as an attack and block it. wink.gif
