1. what ver of winxppro is suggested? sp3 sp2? sp1?
2. between usb floppy method and driverpacks method which is safer?
3. from ur experience, can tell me roughly the successful rate of each
methods respectively? and the rate that results in damaging harddisk?

Added on March 15, 2009, 12:56 ami install on my compaq C793TU both xp pro sp2 and sp 3 , finally come out blue screen after the 30-40mins installing process (about to load the windows for the 1st time.).
*

1) No version specifically because any version works
2) What do you mean by safer? Both methods doesn't blow up your computer...
3) All 100% for slipstream on my side and 80% for floppy. But i bet more than 80% people looking at this thread would have different results than me...

Where did you get the idea installing drivers would damage harddisk? blink.gif

For now i'm going to imply that all HP Compaq laptop will be facing this problem and since i don't have a Compaq machine to try on right now, please give me some time to investigate which part of the setup is causing this problem.

Load the SATA/RAID drivers from floppy

!! I don't mind looking for drivers for those people in need, but some manufacturers like Compaq is giving me a hard time. They have laptops with the same model number while having different specification from each other which makes it hard for me to find. So i insist that please try to list out your hardware specification as detail as you can for me to help you faster and easier. !!

For those who have access to USB floppy drives, here's the step how you want to get XP Setup to detect your SATA harddrive.

  1. Attach USB floppy drive

  2. Copy SATA/RAID drivers to a floppy

  3. Reboot and boot from XP Setup disc

  4. Look at the bottom of the screen and hit F6 when it says "Press F6 to load 3rd party SCSI/RAID Drivers"

  5. A screen will show a list of drivers to load from the floppy which in most case only 1 item in the list

  6. Select the driver there and XP Setup should be able to detect your hard drive

  7. Resume XP installation as how you do normally

Here's a list of drivers to stop everyone from creating new threads to ask for drivers.

I did as you said, but it said cannot find any device?
I use a external floppy drive. Is that my problem?
It couldn't DETECT my floppy drive? Should i change any setting in my setup? sad.gif

Today i went to buy dvd-rw disc to try out my luck. I'd integrated my acer M1641(this model always faced sata raid problem) drivers into new xp installation cd. BUT Using nlite only can create iso image. Unable to burn it on dvd.
So i created *iso file and use nero to create bootable dvd. it worked! I have downgraded my vista to xp! So happy now.

Thanks for some of your guide. thumbup.gif

Hi subkiller, I used to have PATA HDD to run my XP computer but since after I bought SATA HDD to run as logical drive and remain existing PATA HDD running as primary. What should I do? Do I need to have xp setup CD to re-install the window?

My mobo chipset : Abit KV8 Pro ; VIA K8T800 Pro/ VT8237 chipset

appreciate your advise very much!

Added on April 12, 2009, 11:23 amas my MOBO only SATA version, could it supports SATA II HDD?

If PATA as main and SATA as secondary then no, don't have to reinstall windows...

And yes, most SATA2 hard drive can back support older version and turn into SATA1 but some hard drive like Seagate if i'm not mistaken will need you to change the jumper at the back of the hard disk to switch to SATA1 mode.

Winrar can open ISO as well...

Fire up your CD/DVD burning tool and burn image, then select the file you created. It should be ok...

guys, i need abit of help here. last week, i just got a deal for another harddisk which has the same capacity as my old one.the old one already has win Vista installed and all my programs are there.
Since now i got another harddisk with the same capacity, i wish to setup RAID 0 to increase performance since my CPU cant be overclocked much already due to heat issues and reliability.
My question is: Can I still create a RAID array without reformatting my current win Vista?
Can I use Norton Ghost to image my current win Vista onto the 2nd harddisk and set up RAID (using disk to disk)?
I've checked my mobo, and yes it supports RAID.

Old harddisk: 250GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (1 partition with Win Vista 32 bit OS)
New harddisk: 250GB Western Digital RE3 (empty)

I read my motherboard manual about this also but it only teaches how to do create RAID array before installing Windows. If possible, i dont wish to reformat my current Win Vista harddisk

It is not the hard drive guys, its the motherboard chipset.

Your question is very general actually...

So the general answer for you question would be yes, it does support.
