I received my new dell 1420 with 14.1 dell wxga + truelife couple of days ago and i wanna ask u guys, is this severe light leakage?? i called up the customer service and they gave me an option to
1) change the LCD to non truelife
2) send me an replacement unit with non truelife.

can anyone give me opinion on that? whether should i get non truelife or i pay extra $ for a 14.1 ultrasharp wxga+ with truelife?

the light leakage is annoying!!!!!!
HELP!!
beware if u buying dell, good luck~ sad.gif

right, i have been told by technical support personal that is "normal" to have light brighter on the bottom, as light projecting from down....but for my case, i certainly do think that this is way far from what i can accept... sigh

Get the ultrasharp. Truelite (or LED backlit) is a good option to reduce battery usage, but make the operator promise/write down that if the new unit also have light leakage you want a full refund (and buy another laptop).

The 1420 LCD does look like that if you have an empty background. If you apply other wallpaper then it should be much better.

zomg glossyness.

Light leakage is normal for laptops, but your's looks quite bad.. And yes, black backgrounds will show leakage more prominently than other colours. Normally when people intend to test leakage they use the blank black screen saver and preview.

It's normal to have light leakage.Would you mind showing more picture ?

1.Wait until night , turn off all your lights.
2.Max out your LCD brightness level (Fn+up arrow)
3.Take the picture at the middle without flash.Make sure it's at the Middle with LCD.

Post here again.Your previous picture isn't that clear. As I know if the light leakage is too much , you can contact Dell to replace it.

dell is having a nightmare with thier lcd stocks

i just hope they manage to bring out quality products to customer rather than pushing the production plant faster but less quality output

I called up customer service, the technical guy keep saying light leakage is normal until he saw the picture. I am sure that he will be mad if he as a technical guy use this kind of screen. however i manage to email the picture to one of the customer service representative, and they send the picture to hardware department for investigation, hopefully someone will call me and tell me what happen and what are the options tomorrow, finger crosssed......hmm

Hmm, true...but dont really want to change the laptop because
1)"buyer bear the shipping and handling charges" ..
2) Spent so much time and waited for 18 days for that to arrive
3) quite good looking also

however if the screen problem persisted, i will not hesitate to get the refund....

Follow up Day 1 : Called customer service at 3pm, the customer service agent advice me to change from Truelife to non-truelife to reduce the reflection, however they still denied that the light leakage is the problem of the product. They still don get it, how serious is the leakage. However, i kinda made a decision to change my LCD to ultrasharp, because simple, i have no choice. I only have choice to change to non-truelife according to them, but why want to downgrade the product? will call customer service to arrange for the change tomorrow again, hope everything is okie and it wont be too costly for me -_-lll sad.gif
