![]() Nintendo What? The Nintendo Wii is the 7th generation console released by Nintendo. It has considerably lesser graphical juice compared to Xbox 360 and the Sony PS3 but aims to capture the fun of gaming through the games and creative use of both its motion sensor controller - the Wiimote and the nunchuk. As of now, there are only 3 version available - NTSC/UC (America) - NTSC/JAP (Japanese) - PAL (Australia) Nintendo Wii prices The price for the Nintendo Wii varies. It depends on which version you buy. Be careful though on which version you buy, as the version you buy will determine what language/version of game you will be stuck with. As of right now, the prices for the Nintendo Wii are, NTSC/UC = RM 1,500.00 NTSC/JAP = RM 1,100.00 PAL = RM 1,100.00 prices are according to play-asia.com In each package, it will consist of: * 1 x Nintendo Wii Console * 1 x Wii Remote (with strap) * 1 x Nunchuk Controller * 1 x AC Adapter (110V) * 1 x AV Cable * 1 x Stand * 1 x Auxiliary Plate * 1 x Sensor Bar * 1 x Sensor Bar Stand * 1 x AA Battery (x2) * 1 x Wii Sports disc (only in the US package) NOTE: It is required to purchase a step down transformer. You can get one from your local electronics shop or contact forummer DjiNn for further information. Nintendo Wii games The games are usually priced at RM 160 to RM 210. You can purchase your games from any game shops or any online stores such as Play-asia.com Be careful also on which games you buy. Check the version of your Wii and the version of the games you are going to buy as the Nintendo Wii is region-locked For example, if you have a NTSC/JAP console, you are only limited to purchase NTSC/JAP games, so the equation below is used, NTSC/JAP Console = NTSC/JAP games NTSC/UC Console = NTSC/UC games PAL Console = PAL games Nintendo Wii Technical Specs Processor CPU: PowerPC based "Broadway" processor, made with a 90 nm SOI CMOS process, clocked at 729 MHz GPU: ATI "Hollywood" GPU made with a 90 nm CMOS process,[33] clocked at 243 MHz Ports and peripheral capabilities: - Up to four Wii Remote controllers (connected wirelessly via Bluetooth). - One SD memory card slot. - Two USB 2.0 ports. - One Sensor Bar port. - One accessory port on the bottom of the Wii Remote. - Four Nintendo GameCube controller ports. - Two Nintendo GameCube memory card ports. - Mitsumi DMW-W004 WiFi 802.11b/g wireless module - Compatible with optional USB 2.0 to Ethernet LAN adaptor. Audio: Main: Stereo - Dolby Pro Logic II-capable. Controller: Built-in speaker Official Nintendo Wii accessories (as of now) prices may vary at certain stores The accessories can be purchased at any stores selling the Nintendo Wii, well, of course as well as any online stores. Wii Remote Control @ Wiimote ![]() = ~RM 180.00 What's a Wii without the Wiimote? This accessory is needed to play every games! If you have friends or families that frequently come to your house to play the Wii, an extra Wiimote or two might come in handy! Wii Nunchuk ![]() = ~RM 160.00 a.k.a the Balance Stone. The Nunchuk is used to control player movements in-game for certain games, but it also consists of a motion-sensing technology which is also in the Wiimote itself. Wii Classic Controller ![]() = ~RM 100.00 The classic controller is used for playing Virtual Console games that you downloaded on the Shopping Channel! Wii LAN Adapter ![]() = ~RM 160.00 The LAN Adapter is used if you do not have a router at home, but it is best to have a router though. Connect to the Wii Wide Web with this! Wii Zapper *NO IMAGE YET* = ~ USD 20.00 The Zapper is going to be used like a gun, for FPS games. Price is still unknown as it is just recently announced. Pimping your Wii As a gamer, you surely would like to see your Nintendo Wii pimped out. Therefore, there are tons of accessories for the Nintendo Wii itself. Among them are, Silicon Covers (ranging from RM20 to RM 70) Rechargeable Batteries (ranging from RM30 to RM90) 3rd Party Sensor Bars and more. You can find these products at play-asia.com or you can ask your local retailers about these items. *ANY CORRECTIONS PLEASE PM ME!* This post has been edited by Sheep319: Aug 1 2007, 03:56 PM |

Nintendo Wii Features
The Nintendo Wii has a lot of neat features, which will be added much more in the future. 1. Backward compatibility With Backward compatibility, the Nintendo Wii can play GameCube games on the Wii itself! What you'll only need is just the GameCube controller and the Memory Card. But take note, the region-lock concept is still applied to GameCube games. Don't remember what the concept is again? NTSC/UC Console = NTSC/UC GameCube Games NTSC/JAP Console = NTSC/JAP GameCube Games PAL Console = PAL Games But wait! There is a way to overcome this! (only for GameCube games, not Wii games) FreeLoader for Wii ![]() = ~RM 100 ++ With this, you can play any regions (yes, ANY REGIONS, be it Japanese, PAL, US) of GameCube games on your Wii! Make sure you purchase the correct version of FreeLoader though, as it comes in US, PAL, and Japanese version. NOTE: It does not play backup/homebrew Nintendo Wii and backup/homebrew GameCube games You can purchase this from play-asia.com, or ask your local game shop for further information. 2. The Wii Channels ![]() The Wii Channels are channels that you will see when you start-up your console. Among the channels that are currently available are, - Disc Channel - Mii Channel - Wii Shop Channel - Photo Channel - Forecast Channel - News Channel - Internet Channel ** - Everybody Votes Channel * * Both of these channels are available for download in the Wii Shop Channel. ** The Internet Channel is available to be purchased for 500 Points = USD 5 = ~RM 18 As for the other empty channels, those are used for Virtual Console games that you downloaded off the Wii Shop Channel What does the channel do? *) Disc Channel Your essential one way trip to playing your newly-bought game! i) Mii Channel Create your little you! The Mii Channel will be the first channel to be visited to create your very own (or first) Miis! ii) Wii Shop Channel The Wii Shop Channel is where you purchase all your Virtual Console games, or other channels. iii) Photo Channel If you insert your SD Card into the Wii, you can browse through the photos in the Photo Channel. The Photo Channel also plays videos and mp3s. iv) Forecast Channel Check your local weather and see what tomorrow's weather will look like. v) News Channel Browse through the news of the world, sports, international, leisure, you name it. vi) Internet Channel Surf the internet using your Wii! The Internet Channel enables you to surf the net using the Wii. But it comes with a mere price of USD 5. vii) Everybody Votes Channel Join in the Wii community and vote among other Wii users on various polls. There are more Channels that's coming out soon, check this spot for updates! Among the planned channels that will be released are, - Wii Ware - Check Mii Out - Wii Fit Channel 3. The Virtual Console Remember those old SNES days? Now you can relive it! You can purchase SNES, NES, Nintendo 64, Mega Drive, or TurboGrafix-16 games in the Wii Shop Channel! To purchase the games, you are required to purchase Wii Points. Wii Points are available for purchase only on the internet using a credit card for now. NOTE: The Wii Points Cards that are widely available is not compatible with the NTSC/UC or PAL version of the console as it is only for the NTSC/JAP version of the Wii Wii Points prices are, 500 Points = 5 USD = ~RM 18 1000 Points = 10 USD = ~RM 37 2000 Points = 20 USD = ~ RM 69 As for the games, each games have different prices (or points, in this case) NES = 500 Points SNES = 800 Points Nintendo 64 = 1000 Points Mega Drive/Genesis = 800 Points TurboGrafix-16 =600 Points To play the games, you can use either the Wiimote, Wii Classic Controller, or the Nintendo GameCube Controller. Although, some of the games cannot support the Wiimote controls, mostly Nintendo 64 and SNES games. It is advisable though to purchase the Wii Classic Controller to fully enjoy the games. 4. Wii Ware Recently announced Wii Ware will be making its way to Wii consoles in early 2008. What exactly is Wii Ware? Think XBLA on the Wii. More updates will follow. 5. WiiConnect24. WiiConnect24 is a service that enables certain parts of the system to function while the system is on standby (which can be executed by just pressing the Power button once, a yellow dim light will appear). You can receive messages, updates, etc. while your Wii is off. The WiiConnect24 is also utilized in certain games, and more games in the future. 6. Nintendo DS Connectivity. The Wii can also connect to the DS for certain games. Although only one game that has the Nintendo DS connectivity as of now, which is Pokemon Battle Revolution, which connects with Pokemon Pearl/Diamond. But the Nintendo DS Connectivity will be fully used in the future once the game library increases. This post has been edited by Sheep319: Jul 29 2007, 08:58 PM |

Sheep,
I'd like to know what are your directions for this thread. Will this supercede the existing GCN/Wii thread? Or is it similar to the DS FAQ thread? That would be really handy. And as for friend codes, I propose/suggest a new thread for BOTH codes. Whadya think? |

Well, a thread for both codes will make it much difficult for the DS owners to update their codes.
But it sounds okay with me. As for this thread, it will replace the GCN/Wii thread, as it will consist everything about the Wii. (GCN is sooo last yarr |

Brain stormy time.
Let's count the informative threads we have here, and how do we narrow it down.. Merge, delete, cast thundaga, whatever. Let's clean-up! Firstly, pinned threads. QUOTE Read me First (must) Nintendo Wii Codes Corner [Definitive] Nintendo Wii (and GC) Thread v2 The Great LYN Nintendo DS Meet up - July edition FAQ for DS Upcoming Game Releases (GBA/GC/DS/Wii) Nintendo Chamber of Commerce (must) Nintendo DS thread Version 3 (somewhat inactive) Nintendo WFC Friend Codes And that leaves us to: QUOTE Nintendo Wii Codes Corner [Definitive] Nintendo Wii (and GC) Thread v2 The Great LYN Nintendo DS Meet up - July edition FAQ for DS Upcoming Game Releases (GBA/GC/DS/Wii) Nintendo DS thread Version 3 (somewhat inactive) Nintendo WFC Friend Codes Opinions. Will the posts above be deleted? lol.
Anyhoo, I'd propose Nintendo Wii and NDS Codes Corner (Wii in one page, NDS in another) [Definitive] Nintendo Wii (and GC) Thread v2 (not needed, will be replaced with the Nintendo Wii FAQ?) The Great LYN Nintendo DS Meet up - July edition ( FAQ for DS (Must) Upcoming Game Releases (GBA/GC/DS/Wii) (Hmm. can the game releases be in the FAQ? thus the DS faq will consist of the game releases also.) Nintendo DS thread Version 3 (DOWN WITH HIS HEAD!) Nintendo WFC Friend Codes (propose to combine with Wii codes thread) |

How would it be arranged? 2. GCN/Wii thread superceded by Nintendo Wii FAQ. But if we let this happen, what will happen to the general NDS thread? 3. Do you guys want it pinned? Perhaps, a simple daily bump should be ok. 4. Yep, but do we treat it as a place to discuss? Like how I just cleaned up FAQ for DS. 5. Game releases in FAQ? I've seen you do that but I can't remember where, seems worthy. Include VC titles too. (which also means, we can get two members to work on seperate release date tables) 6. General NDS thread to be superceded by FAQ for NDS? 7. See point #1. Now, was just wondering, cause I cleaned up the FAQ for NDS, and now it's gonna be the main HQ for discussing anything DS? QUOTE(zio @ Jul 13 2007, 04:05 PM) Actually... 1. Nintendo Wii/GC thread (include FAQ/game releases etc) 2. Wii and NDSL codes thread 3. Chamber of Commerce (WHY U DINt INCLUDE THIS?!?) 4. Nintendo DS (include FAQ/game releases etc) And thats it. oh wait..coc was included in sihum posting Okay, Zio's set-up seems more cleaner. We use the old names(maybe remove GC). So the current FAQ threads to be renamed, maybe under the description, maintain "FAQS on Page 1", and then proceed with the blabber. No rush guys. |

Nein.
LOCK THE DS THREAD!1! Well, it's up to you though. FAQ for DS should be left open for questions and answers IMO. As for the Codes, uh. I meant post 1 and 2 (or further apart) It depends, I may have to reorganize the whole thing. |

FAQ for DS can be maintained on one page and then further questions can be discussed by the community.
The person in charge can update the FAQ as and when he deems is right. There is no point in a separate FAQ topic as far I can see. |

If we can figure this out, we'll do the same for Wii thread. _______________________________ Ok, based on Zio's comments. DS general be dead. FAQ for NDS lives. All general DS talks will be brought to the FAQ for DS. If everyone agrees, then the same will be done for Wii thread, making this FAQ for Wii come to fruition. Thus, this shortens 4-5 threads, to just two. Great! Added on July 13, 2007, 4:49 pmWow, great and fast stuff from Kambing! Salute! This post has been edited by sihumchai: Jul 13 2007, 04:49 PM |

Nintendo DS (include FAQ/game releases etc) 5. The Great LYN Nintendo DS Meet up (how can u leave this out? FAQ section open for discussion oso... however... the mods may need to do some cleaning on the FAQ from time to time. As many of us get carried away and post kopitiam stuff there. wat u think? |

Yes, I agree with all above.
The name "Nintendo DS thread vWhatever" will remain, thread description should have "FAQs on Page 1", discussions will continue as normal. But less SPAM is a must. Will clean-up whatever that does not relate to DS. The same goes for Wii thread, we keep the name "Nintendo Wii/GCN thread", "FAQs on Page 1", bla bla bla (as per-above). And no out-of-topic stuff. Good good! We've settled one part. Now how to merge codes with those threads? Added on July 13, 2007, 4:57 pmChange thread into talk, e.g. "Nintendo DS talk and FAQ".. How's that? So THIS thread should be renamed to, "Nintendo Wii talk and FAQ". This post has been edited by sihumchai: Jul 13 2007, 04:59 PM |

No need for specification, just state it has "Full Backwards Compatibility". Unless, someone has got another idea. |
