Guys, which specs should I opt for?
Currently, the X2 system has an advantage for me, as it comes in a M-Atx form. Smaller casing could be handy for me.

Light gaming, probably for CS, Dota or WoW.
Mainly for watching movies.
Low budget, but don't mind forking extra if worth it.
Going to use this system for at least the next 3 yrs.

ATHLON AM2 X2 3800+
BIOSTAR 6100 AM2
CORSAIR PC667 DDR2 VS 1GB x2
NVIDIA GEFORCE 8500GT 256MB DDR2 ( 450 / 800 MHZ )

or

Intel E2140
Abit IL9 PRO
CORSAIR PC667 DDR2 VS 1GB x2
NVIDIA GEFORCE 8500GT 256MB DDR2 ( 450 / 800 MHZ )

option #1 it is.
1. onboard graphic card. biggrin.gif
2. the board on option #2 is using old chipset, so that's why i choose option #1.

option #1, should i use Abit NF-M2s instead of Biostar?

I don't really need the onbboard graphics. my budget can go up to RM250 for a mobo.

alo people. long time lurker, first time poster here.

i told a friend to get a brisbane am2 3600+ x2 and biostar tf6100. he ended up with a biostar ta690g cos it has supposedly newer and better chipset and still within his budget. he's using a mushkin 1x 1Gb ddr667. going to oc but not to the bleeding edge limit i think. only using it for internet, movies, light games.

i see some people's sig using this combo. any comments on it running stock/overclocked?

nice to be here...

to AceCombat:
tell me wat rig would u recommend for a budget of 1k with all the brands i stated above........and my bro wants this to kinda be a replacement for his old pentium 2 computer

To k!nex:
Well my dad really wants Asus mobo because it has served my bro and my computer for a long time and still no problem. And also i have been using MSI graphic card so i prefer to have the brands we have used before. Thx about the info on the processor and RAM. U sure RAM can increase the performance better than the processor?

so any more suggestions?
*

i noe asus mobo good. but its priced very expensive dis time for the intel P35 chipset.the gigabyte board is around 450+.asus board is 560+.asus model is Asus P5k if u wan search more info abt it.not to say RAM can increase more performance than processor.the meaning is,currently one internet explorer window u open cost u 32mb or RAM or so.plus ur antivirus, antispyware, ur bittorent and many others.they eat up alot of RAM in total.so its good to hv lots of RAM so tht u wont face lag when available RAM is below 70MB coz ur system will start to use ur harddisk as virtual memory to cover up for ur lack of RAM.hard disk speed very slow compare to RAM.thts y ur system will lag when u dun hv enuf RAM.processor is not an issue here.u dun play games.its only for assignments.u wont make use of the full power of ur processor.so actually any processor and fast enuf for u.even a celeron D.so,in ur case, choosing the proc has a lower priority than RAM capacity

actually i'll choose the INTEL system.but a few mods i hv to add here.change mobo to P35 chipset(2 digit cash difference only).and if u get tht 8500GT,i rather buy 7600GT DDR3(almost same price only since price drop for 7 series).anything below 8600GT is not worth the price to pay.

do u really need to SLI the cards? i think getting a single 8800GTS 320MB would be better.

then u dont need to get an SLI motherboard which is usually more expensive than SLi motherboards. a cheap but very good option to look at would be the Biostar motherboards.

as for ram...DDR667 is good enough as well.

if those games can run on my 6800 Ultra. i don't see why you need to SLI anything.

SLIing some mid/low-end GC isn't going to be helpful. then you have to spend on the motherboard.

Hi could u guys recommend a set up for a PC, whereby:

- my budget is RM 2000-2500
- Intel preferably
- mainly used for file sharing, watching movies, listening to music and playing championship manager! Most likely my computer is going to be on for days on end, so i'd prefer it not to have any overheating problems, etc.
- Also, because i'll be using it to play DVD's i was thinking of getting a 5.1 compatible sound card and a reasonably big LCD screen

So any suggestions?
Also feel free to PM me your suggestions because I want to buy this system urgently! Any and all help given is greatly appreciated! biggrin.gif
