one of my colleague did mod his 120y..damn nice!!!
i think he's using standard engine,but the interior is fully converted to white leather upholstry..ooh..he's also mod his abs to sylvia absorber..damn hot!!!

actually it is not the starter la..i think is the injection point/contact point or something like that. u need to tune it. (my first car -120Y used to have that problem

120Y is the last car from Nissan/Datsun that is Rear wheel drive one
but remember to reinforce your 120Y. rust will eat into most of the body parts by now
reinforce it, then rust proof it.

for engine modification...try the nissan AD resort. 1.6 one..sure fit in 120Y without any problem. lots of space in the engine compartment. not sure the engine name n price.

also please check the camshaft... maybe need a new one after so many years on the road
(i used to drive my father's 120Y, 1 year older than me but now already sold it and get a new car last year. Still misses it. Old car with pure mechanics stuff...oh yeah..i like it)

engine u can use toyota starlet 1.3 4E-fte engine, toyota 20 valve engine, CA18det, or Sentra engine

JPJ will approve with a bit of duit kopi if u upgrade to 1.6 or 1.8. Datsun 120Y is quite old so JPJ won't give too much kacau 'cause they know these cars don't have much choices in engines, plus your car is FR, so mounting doesn't need to worry too much 'cause using long shaft, not drive shaft, the engine doesn't need to be 100% balance. Just make sure your brakes are working fine and all the electronics (brake lights and front lights and signal lights) are working when go for JPJ approval.

what u really need to worry is the body/chassis, make sure the rust parts are fixed and body is strengtened.

if u know how to budget, RM10K will be sufficient for the engine transplant and body repairs, but about other stuff like seats, interior, bodykits, rims and tires, u need another RM3K

those ppl say runners can settle..hard edi nw..sum say impossible..

it's almost impossible to get approval for proton cars, 'cause firstly there's lots of accidents with modified protons (i know a lot of ppl own proton cars, so the percentage will be higher lah....), and lots of "unwanted" proton engines, so JPJ restricts ppl from changing to Mitsu engines

japanese cars are easier to get approval, as i've said before, especially old cars that don't have much engine choices

n got lotsa fren driving it...

for engine... you have

A15 from vanette.. same mounting, same Gearbox etc... plug and play
SR16VE, need to change mounting and Gearbox, plus need to mod long shaft
4AGE, 4AGZE, 4AGE 20V.. need to mod almost everything.. but make usre you get a rear wheel drive gearbox from AE86 or anf KE, TE that share the same gearbox. you can also use the rear wheel axle on it as original datsun's axle are quite weak.
CA18DET, SR20DET... seen people using these, but it's not for daily use as it's a heavier engine, you'll definitely need to change your suspensions. LSD axle are recommended... plus extra cash to bribe JPJ (need almost RM1k) as you're only allowed to change up to 1.6L brakes and everything need to be upgraded as the car stock is only 700kg.

suspension
for front, anything from Sylvia S13 or Cefiro A31 or Skyline R32 can be used. just plug and play. you'll need to use adjustable suspension as 120Y's spring clearance is very small... for spring you can use Proton Saga's rear spring... same size and diameter... it's abit higher by 1 inch... so chop the spring about 1 coil.

for rear, you can use any toyota's KE, TE or AE's absorber and spring. for stiffer spring you can try to use Waja's rear spring... same size.. but higher by 2 inch.. so chop off 2 coils for correct height...

for plug and play springs, you can try 160J springs...

rear axle..
you can mod hilux's for heavy duty use or from mitsubishi lancer's A175 or A174 axles. both comes with hear dics brakes and LSD.. or you can also mod from AE86. all you need to minor mod to the bracket... just halfday job.
