QUOTE(yoecr7 @ Jul 9 2009, 03:45 AM)
hi guys.i'm really a noob when it comes to computers and its hardwares, peripherals etc.i'm planning to build a desktop soon and my budget is around RM2500. 50% gaming purpose (im not really a hardcore gamer), 49% internet and media purposes and 1% assignment tongue.gif I've scouted a HP desktop at digital mall (spec; intel core2quad 2.6GHz, onboard graphic card, 320gb harddisk, 3gb ram, 20inch LCD etc etc.) The price really suits my budget. But if i want to build a desktop on my own, with RM2500, what kind of spec can u guys suggest?

P/s: I've tried goldfries' pc buying guide. just need extra advise from u guys.thanks.

thanks dude..i suppose this setup is ok la for a normal gamer like me eh?but then is the X3 u suggested ok or not?i mean i terms of the durability (i heard AMD has overheat prblm, not sure) and performance compared to the Intel Core2Quad Q9400.i think the price of both are different right?if u can compare between these 2 procs i really appreciate it. coz i dont mind spending more to buy durable and decent performance proc.

AMD supposed overheating problem is a thing of the past. It never bothered me anyway. my old school AMD Athlon 2200+ ran 3 years without any problems.

comparing X3 with a intel quad at first instance, surely the quad would win. the main question u have to ask urself is do u really need that much processing power? the current generation of AMD processors are both durable and excellent in terms of price to performance ratio. if u want a quad system, better get AMD Phenom II X4 955BE.

The x3 is actually more than enough. you can overclock it easily if you need more in the future.

EH!!
Hold on, hold on!
Why am I seeing the almost same & similar build over and over again with around the same budget?

I thought piumiu already scold you guys for being lazy.
It has nothing to do with being noob or what not, it's plainly being lazy.

Patterns that I saw are:
1. RM1500+ budget, RM2000+ budget, RM3000 budget.
2. With LCD or without, or whatever with this and without that.
3. For playing games or graphics, but typically games. You guys only know PC coz of games eh?
4. All requester requested through this thread, meaning = obviously you guys know how to get around the forum.

Sooo, my ranting is, I prefer NOT to see a PC Buying Guide V2 just because its filled up by junks.
Nothing wrong with being noob, but if you're gonna use it and most probably buy it you SHOULD at least put some effort searching for similar request. If similar request is outdated (at least 2 month laa, c'mon) then start DISCUSSing recommended substitute relevant to current market. Maybe you'll say only for PC/tech stuff, but looks like you'll practise the same attitude for other things too.

Haiz you guys, only know how to request, only want everything free, always buy pirated stuff, always take and cheapskate. Am I wrong? Then prove it to yourselves you're not like that.

Dear jblaze-san,

My previous post may sound like a harsh reminder, because piumiu has several times gave out soft reminder to others to search before request and post a complete request like being said in the first post.
Like I SAID, I am also OK with noob, because I was too, but only concerned with the lazy ones.
It's OK if you discuss like darknitez and give many info of your request like yoecr7, but not "4k rig? Only Intel. Play games. What build?" kind of post.

I have prove that I BUY pirated software before, if you're asking about myself 6 years ago. No more after that, which leaves me with fewer games and programs since I have to carefully pick before I spend hundreds of ringgits.
My pals are moderators of programming forums, they always reply softly to repeated and lazy post, but outside in real life world, they are so pissed off. Maybe it has affected me too.

OK now, let's continue with answering requests shall we?

@drealar

You can't stop the Internet. No point being a keyboard warrior, since new people will be on the internet everyday and you can't expect them to heed your words.

Yes there are lazy bass-turd but you can just simply ignore them, like what I always do. I too give a lot of build suggestions in the past (now slowing down), simply because I cannot stand the repitition, so instead of ranting about it, I just choose not to reply, as we have mods and admin coming here everyday smile.gif

i hope this the right place to ask some question here..

i was thinking to get a new GC which is Leadtek GTX 260 Extreme+ but my current system(Pentium D 3.4Ghz, mobo is MSI 945P/G/PL Neo2 Series) will bottleneck it hardly =(

so i have to upgrade my proc and mobo as well. Proc in my mind is Phenom II X3 720BE but no idea what mobo suit it best. and the RAM..currently i got 2x512MB PC667..not enough right..if i wan to upgrade RAM as well shuold i give up this 2x512MB PC667 and get another new 1 like PC800 or PC1333 RAM?

well i only have a really tight budget, at first i was only thinking of upgrading GC but now expanded to upgrade Proc and mobo as well X_x

so can you guys give a good combination?

budget for proc and mobo is rm800+- (900 in advance)

thanks alot.

800Mhz DDR2 and 667Mhz DDR2, technically you can't feel the difference. I'm not worried about the speed of RAM, but your RAM capacity. 1GB is seriously not enough for newer games, and with multi-tasking programs.

Take the X3 and MSI 770, that should save you some money smile.gif To use PC1333 you need an AM3 mobo smile.gif

Like :3mushy:3 said take X3 and MSI 770 which will set you back around RM700+/-. Also like he said, be more concern with your RAM capacity.
If you still value your old RAM, then get:
2x1GB Kingston DDR2 800 it's around RM100~110 OR
2x1GB Kingston DDR3 1333 it's around RM140~150.
+
Your old 2x512MB
This way you'll use up all 4 DIMM slots and have 3GB RAM. Yay!! With 32-bit OS, it will only recognize 3.2GB max anyway.

Or, if you don't have any nostalgic feeling with your RAM tongue.gif, get:
2x2GB Kingston DDR2 800 is around RM160~180 OR
2x2GB Kingston DDR3 1333 is around RM210~230.

It'll be worth while since there will be times when you wanna do some movie editing (of your vacations, sports events n stuff) de/compressing big zip/rar files, and watch 720p anime at the same time.. hehehe
