to certain extent, you are right rclxms.gif . propietary OS has released some open source platform for x86, eg solaris express(sunos kernal 5.11), beleniX, openbsd. but the question is, how "open" is their source code? in my defination, linux still the best cool2.gif if you talk about open source.

that is where the grey area unsure.gif . nowsday unix slowly open their source code to public, opensolaris is a good example. im not sure how u define open source, but for me, open source mean open source code of certain OS to public. so in other hand, u can create your own version of distro. you can download linux kernel source code and built your own OZSlinux.

blush.gif i dunno is freebsd open source, but wat i heard openbsd is open source. so far i havn't hear any freebsd distro, maybe i dunno. but for opensolaris, you can get solaris express, BeleniX , marTux, NexentaOS , SchilliX ...etc.

thanks for the link. now i get better picture of freebsd license.

1.3. Does the FreeBSD license have any restrictions?

Yes. Those restrictions do not control how you use the code, merely how you treat the FreeBSD Project itself. If you have serious license concerns, read the actual license. For the simply curious, the license can be summarized like this.

Do not claim that you wrote this.

Do not sue us if it breaks.

1.11. Who is responsible for FreeBSD?

The key decisions concerning the FreeBSD project, such as the overall direction of the project and who is allowed to add code to the source tree, are made by a core team of 9 people. There is a much larger team of more than 300 committers who are authorized to make changes directly to the FreeBSD source tree.

Perhaps this is off topic, I will post it here as it is most relevant..

I am looking for a partnership to help develop a product/online service that will monitor network/systems "As A Service" with a remote probe at enduser's network as a data collector for Small/Medium Size companies.

I've worked out most of the plans and have a large customer based to offer this product/services to..

Those are interested, pls PM me directly for details..

Thanks
