Guys.. I think he wants both a DSLR and a compact digicam. Read his post carefully.

Yup, i think sojen is right. In that case, think carefully on whether you want the 5k to cover additional accessories as well e.g. lenses, UV filters, tripod, camera bag etc.

As for compact cameras, I prefer Canon Ixus. Have been using one for a few years now and still proud of the picture it takes. Another notable feature for the Ixus series is the video it takes. wonderful stuff smile.gif

Here's my gear :

DSLR :
Pentax K100D (18-55mm kit lens, 50-200mm DA lens)
UV filters, Tamrac Explorer 3 DSLR backpack, 2 x 2gb SD cards, El Cheapo tripod
Cost : 3.7k

Compact :
Canon Ixus 40, 1 x 512mb SD, 2 x 256mb SD
Cost : 1.5k (3 years ago, now probably worth RM 500 tongue.gif)

Sry to confuse everyone...

Mainly im trying to get a DSLR 1st... i dunno know much about DSLR...
Last time i was using compact, so i just know how to go for Auto... XD
Now im trying to get into the DSLR and start learning...
Thats why i dunno what to get for a beginner...
Never heard of the model everyone mentioned, but i will look into it when surveying for prices...

As for the compact, since i cant really bring a DSLR where ever i go and when ever on the go...
So i want a compact to put into bag or pocket...

I have no comment on choices of dSLR, but personally, I'm using Pentax K10D, and of course, I just love it!

As for PnS, I'd advise you to look into Sony DSC-W series. They should be able to give you full manual mode (Shutter & Aperture priority as well as MF). But this was based on my experience on DSC-W1, not sure about current model. It's better if you go try it out at 1 of Sony's showrooms. smile.gif

Good luck in your hunting.

Or wait for next PC fair, plenty of dSLR put out for demo, then you can test out various brands and models.

I also have my first hand experience on the Olympus' digital live-preview feature. Amazing. smile.gif

my best choice would b nikon D80 - rm 4500 + kit lens + cf card during road show at lowyat few weeks ago
second choice would b pentax k10D - really great but
if u need bundle of lens than u go fro canon 400D bcoz this is DSLR is cheapest among the above 2 so that u can get more accessories attach to it....
actually is true oso to hav such budget b4 planning to buy a DSLR camera for my point of view..
