Hello,

Just check my latest (april) online bill, noticed this Macrok SMS (32278) charging me RM4 for nothing...wtf!!!!!.

Straight away called 123, after long conversation finally the lady said their will investigate and block the sender no and tell me their will wavier on my next bill. I told her if my next bill (may) still no wavier or got new stupid Macrok SMS (3****) i will consider to terminate my acc and switch to other mobile provider!

Question, how we prevent this things from happening in near future ? and how to block all this stupid Macrok SMS ?.

TIA

Call 123, they refund you..but you could be one in hundred of thousands that this company has spammed and charge. What happen to those who did not complaint
and get charge silently..MK is walking away ..

Don;t take that for an answer.. Call National Consumer Complaint Centre
03-7877 9000

This is a criminal act..Report them to POLIS

No point to call MCMC also, as government body, they will only do PR exercise..
and they last claim NOBODY MAKE COMPLAINT..what a lies

Digi provide detail billing for even prepay ...Maxis & celcom do not..

Switch to DIGI now to sound your protest while scammer like MK is in bed with Maxis

Just sue the company. Get enough evidence and let the company rip to death. You complain to MCMC no use because they won't look into this seriously. The best way is to file a summon to the company. Gather a few who had the problem, discuss with the lawyer and sue the company. WHo knows u from the 5 dollars they take, u will get 50,000 each for the damage. biggrin.gif

Anyone interested to pursue class action against Maxis/MacroK?

I think unless this goes to court, there will be no change. Maxis knows the problem but doesn't do anything. I talked to their Customer Relation Manager already. MacroK will not do anything, afterall, they proudly publish their own spam policy on their website but doesn't live up to it. As for MCMC, it's the government, so enough said. Police? They will just tell you it's a civil case and go get your own lawyer. I know, I deal with the police a lot. Bunch of lazy/corrupt people who won't do anything unless you, <ahem>, motivate them well.

Or if not, then just make it your monthly ritual to call 123.

How about this new:

Obscene messages can land SMS senders in jail

Mobile phone users caught sending threats or obscene messages with pictures can be fined RM50,000 or jailed not more than one year, or both.

Tamil Nesan highlighted the caution from Deputy Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor.

The deputy minister, who was replying to a supplementary question from Senator Wan Ubaidah Omar in the Dewan Negara on Thursday, said it would be easy to identify senders with the compulsory registration of handphone users.

Shaziman said some irresponsible people were using SMS to cheat handphone users.

"The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission is seriously looking into the matter," he was quoted as saying.

Prove to them that the SMS content is "obscene". tongue.gif

Damn, just found out I got charged the MacroK item on my office line (I carry 2 012- lines). No one else in the company got charged by it and asked my accountant to call Maxis to complain. We should do a signature drive and create more awareness about this! mad.gif

I write an email to Maxis to complain regarding these. . . here is their reply :

CODE

Thank you for your concern of charges billed by External Content Service Provider in your latest statement dated 28 April 2007.

There are messages sent to customer's mobile phone by External Content Service Provider upon subscriber's request or one time subscription (short code 32278 and 33535). We are acting as a billing platform whereby we do not block any incoming messages sent to the mobile phone. These types of promotional messages are normally originated from ECSP clientele's database.

We have assisted to block these short codes, 32278 and 33535 from sending any messages to your mobile phone. However, we appreciate if you stop the service in future by sending a command code STOP or STOPALL to the particular short code to discontinue the service.

We found that there is log transactions showed the request made to the short codes, 33535 either the MO messages had been sent from your MSISDN, whether by your good self or by people who had accessed to your hand phone. As a result of the MO messages sent, the chargeable MT messages with premium value attached were sent to you.

We would appreciate if you can write STOP to the particular short code in the event to stop the message delivered to your mobile phone. As we have set out in great detail above, your contention that you have been charged for services which you have not subscribed to is flawed from the outset notwithstanding your categorical denial.  For more information in future, you may visit the website at http://store.maxis.com.my/?ch=77&pg=1002&ac=2878 and enter short code for more information of the External Content Party.

Info or content sms request is charged at 15 sen per sms for every information or sms made to particular short code requesting the download or any other content.

We regret that we are not able to waive the valid charge in your mobile account.

We hope this clarifies your query. Please do not hesitate to contact us at 03 74922123 for any further assistance. Thank you and we look forward to your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Let's all together curse those SMS scammer WFGD. . .

Got my bill today and this time, instead of my office line, my personal line gets charged. Also, instead of MacroK, I got charged RM4.50 by MT&T SMS. Immediately called 123 and the teller replied saying that they`re just a service provider, cannot reverse charge, can only block, blah blah blah. Damn, I`m so pissed off! They told me to call MT&T via the number printed on my statement (013 203 3100) and the damn number gives an invalid tone! What can we do??

I also got hit. Called Maxis and they told me to send STOPALL to the shortcode.

Basically, its MO spoofing. Much like credit card fraud except there is no paper trail to actually determine whether you made the request or not.

Furthermore, they can't or dont want to refund because imagine if everyone (including those who requested for the services) start calling up and claim its fraud.

For those interested to follow this sms scam crime, follow this Screenshots expose. Pretty long series but quite an enlightening read. This MacroK was repeatedly name as a rogue ECP in the expose. Complaining to MCMC, read the expose and you'll know why its a waste of your time.

As Jeff Ooi wrote, the worst off are those prepaid from Celcom and Maxis. You don't get itemised billing so you don't know how much they have deduct from your credit.

On a separate case but related topic, I just got a father's day MMS from Maxis. I click on read msg and my phone start downloading the animation. Amazing huh... the dirty trick Maxis used to make you use their network. I call up maxis and ask them do i have to pay for the GPRS download and the answer is YES. Maxis promise to reverse the charge but I wanna see how the prove it to me.

Next time you guy receive any promotion from Maxis, just delete the message without reading it.
