I have a Nokia N73.

Can some1 pls kindly explain what are the different effects of doing a "Soft" Reset and a "Hard" Reset?
Also when we should do a soft or hard reset.

Me still very new in Symbian stuff...
TQ in adv.

Soft reset turns you phone to be factory default with data still intact (COntacts etc) but hard reset will format your phone as of coming from a factory with no data saved... This means that all user data will be erased. Bear in mind that if you have important data; do backup the data first. I wouldn't recommend backing up all data including applications since that might create problems when restoring them Apps can be reinstalled later... Press *#7370* for Hard Reset...

Correct me if I am wrong...

reset whether it is soft or hard,is useless..

if your phone has some corrupted files, neither method would cleanse the corruption doh.gif

all it does is reset the settings.
big deal, nothign a normal phone cant do doh.gif

if anything bad happens to your phone,(cant on,files corrupted, cant access menu) just hard format.

it wont work ALL THE TIME,because there are different reasons why your phone is spoilt (could be firmware) but most of the time,a hard format gives you your phone back good as new smile.gif

6680,6630,n70 are symbian os 8.1 phones.
symbian os 7 onwards can hard format.
only the os6 phones cant be hard formatted, and if there ever is a problem, flashing is the only way out.(os6=ngage,qd,3660,3650...)

Tks, guys, for all yr responses!! smile.gif

zac1 : Yu said "...if u wan hard format .reboot(restart) ur hp,when nokia word come out ,pree green(call button)+3+ * ,preess until the nokia word blink 1 times, kao tim "

I also read somewhere ppl saying "full format by switchin off the phone......
hold down call button + 3 + * and switch on...keep holding the three buttons until the phone has booted up..."

Now which is the correct way? Me a bit confused & worried if do wrongly....sorry... sad.gif
Can the above be confirmed for sure? TQ in adv.

Summary : Up to this point in time, we can conclude that a Hard Reset for N-Series/S60 V3 phones can be done, as repeated in last post by Mgsrulz, by switching "off the phone, keep your fingers on GREEN CALL BUTTON+3+* and power on the phone whilst holding those three buttons."

Any1 else who has done so successfully, pls confirm that is THE correct way. Pls do post yr confirmation. TQ.

Now what 1 more aspect that one needs to be CLEAR abt is :

What is the FINAL outcome of that action?

What is only left in the HP after a Hard Reset?
Izzit only the Factory Installed Default items & Original Default settings?
All extras (installed contact info, Apps, data, images, links, etc) are totally removed?

Also anything done to the Firmware if updated firmware is in the phone? Does it remain intact or reverted to firmware installed by factory?

Let's all help to make it clear & remove all doubts so users can carry out a Hard Reset w/o FEAR...
Answers to the above would go a LONG way to help new Symbian phone users to hv confidence when need to do a Hard Reset arises.

All responses here are greatly appreciated and truly invaluable. smile.gif

Tks a meg in adv.

a hard format erases EVERYTHING you installed or put into your phone.
from contact list to applications to games to messages, everything is wiped out.
you'd have a clean phone, exactly the way you bought it from the shop on the first day.

nothing is done to the firmware.
it stays the same.
if you have(for example) version 2 firmware,it will stay at version 2.
it wont revert back to the previous firmware.

what im know is

soft reset is same like "set as factory setiing" just take it and enter 12345 as the password.. 12345 is the original code for nokia i think. this only will change ur setup to original setup.. include ur profile.

hard reset. all data will blow away.. make sure u have backup ur contact number n all importand data first. *#7370* for hard reset.

that the basic.. and the difrent

-corect me if im wrong -

u're wrong. soft reset is simply, off and on again. Taking out your battery and putting back = soft reset. pressing the small button at the side for the pda is a soft reset.

proxiey's soft reset is NOT soft reset. Thats restore factory settings.

hard reset, = reformat, phone becomes as it was before u started using it.
