Afro Samurai (アフロサムライ, Afro Samurai?) is a Japanese dōjinshi manga series, created by Takashi Okazaki, originally featured in the NOU NOU HAU [1] dōjin magazine, which has adapted into an 5-episode anime television series, produced by Japanese animation studio GONZO, and set to air in January 4 2007, but an online premiere set on New Year's eve at midnight.

The anime series is set to feature noted American actor Samuel L. Jackson as the voice of the titular character, as well as one of the co-producers, and will also feature Ron Perlman and Kelly Hu as character voices. Wu-Tang Clan member RZA produced the original musical score,[2] which is due to be released on compact disc by Koch Records on January 16, 2007 in both explicit and edited versions. The series has been slated for five episodes and is set to air in the United States on Spike TV and Japan on Fuji Television. The series has also been licensed for North American distribution by Funimation, whose first DVD release is planned for early 2007. In August 2005, Japan-based game developers Namco announced they would be releasing Afro Samurai-related video games in both Japan and America.[3]

Each episode is estimated at costing 1 million dollars each to make[citation needed]. Which is also a record for gonzo.

This anime series should add to the already popular genre of hip hop infused martial arts television and DVD fare originated by the international cult favorites "Kung Faux" and "Samurai Champloo".

The TV anime series will be set in a "futuristic, yet feudal Japan," and star a black samurai named Afro. The story will follow Afro as he tries to avenge his father's murder.[4] In the world of Afro Samurai, it is said that the one who becomes No.1 will rule the world. But the only rule in this world is that only the No. 2 is allowed to fight the No. 1. The No. 2, the Afro Samurai, travels the road looking for revenge on those who murdered his father in front of him when he was just a boy. The focus of his attentions is No. 1, a three-armed gunman who is the lord of the dark swordsman's road. Silent assassins attempt to eliminate No. 2, the only man allowed to fight No. 1.

guess it will be like samuel's movie Shaft, but with katana and afro...

The 1st eps is there, if you can get pass the poor quality vid, this is awesome. If only there are local seeders

Crappy voice dubs is a real letdown

The trailer i downloaded a week ago do have SLJ cursing.
But the vid i got (ToyBox, luckily got some local seeders) was clean. No cursing, even SOB turn to SO... (i think so, coz im sure i dint hear "biatche")

when Samuel L Jackson finish his drink, for a moment I thought he's gonna say "That's hit the spot!"

uh i prolly won't even bother with it. I find samurai champloo one of the crappiest anime i've ever watched, and they say this is something like it so I prolly won't like it.

Samurai champloo, rocks. honestly. This one i hope it will too. base on the trailer looks promising, can't wait to see its sword fight.

when i watch this... i was like ... "hmm.. why still got gunz, machinez these kind of stuff.." Epi3 got robotz, darn it. The robotz never gave up its shzit..
