Option 2 for me too.

And yeah. Amateur doesn't always mean Noob. I prefer amateur to hobbyist even though in this context they mean the same thing. tongue.gif

I will not choose any of the options listed above. There can be many definitions of a "pro photographer" and it is often assumed that IF you own a dSLR you are automatically a professional in the field. That is a very wrong assumption because when it comes to the definition of a "pro", the photographer needs to know more than what the basic skills/things that photography has to offer such as the correct exposures for a certain photo shoot or how would different lightings affect the photos taken. Besides, composition has to be in accordance to the rules.

Moreover, professional photographers may earn an income from photography (they may not; depending on their choices). The current trend in the photography world is that everyone is going with the flow --- the in-thing of having and owning a dSLR with thoughts such as a dSLR produces much better quality photos than a normal PNS. That is a total mistake because albeit one may own a dSLR, it does not mean his/her photos are unbelievably awesome. It is often said that starting small would not hurt as you learn the tips and tricks of the trade before moving on to a larger system.

I would not deny that being called a "pro" is an honour but if one is only an amateur or hobbyist in the field, they should not be afraid of calling themselves an "amateur". After all, we all learn from one step to another.

He encouraged me to take more photos instead of whining about cameras deficiencies. I used to think taking good photos must only use dslr, after reading his works I'm able to take great photos even with a 5 yrs old compact and I am loving it so much so that my dslr relegated to 3rd spot.
