QUOTE(A9001 @ Apr 26 2008, 07:39 PM)
...
Look likes I am pro too, the lousy one. I took thousands photos with G Lenses over the years but never sell any or won prize any of it. But I need to take photo to earn a living.
Like when a new bungalows completed, my job is to supply and install beautiful manhole cover. So my photo is only for the cover and no need the whole house with blue skies. Then photo show to each house owner, ok jobs done pay money.  thumbup.gif  fix above description  rclxm9.gif

My fren is pro photog too. He is doing the sewage tank. Every time pumps blocked or crack appear inside the tank, photos is 100% require as proof because he is the only one dare to go down there.

...

[/b]
*

laugh.gif you're not at pro photog lah... you're a pro manhole cover supplier / installer. similarly your fren is a pro sewage inspector maybe tongue.gif unless his only job scope is to take photos of blocked pumps or cracked tank wink.gif

... option 2 says u need to derive 75% of your income from photography ie the photos you take are your main source of income.

in your examples above, taking photos is "part of the job", not "the job itself". in both the examples, the you/your fren can still earn a living if somebody else took those photos on behalf smile.gif the photos you took support your ability to collect payment on the actual job done. the source of income here is supplying and installing manhole cover, without that there is no need for you to take the photos even. and your fren's example - his main source of income is from whatever he does with the sewage tank, not from taking photos of blocked pumps or cracked tanks biggrin.gif

yeah. that's the thing.

people confuse the word PRO and EXPERT.

it's funny how many people when see someone do better than them, they'll say "you PRO la".

more like this.

If a person was a great gamer, I'd say the person is an expert or advanced or good gamer rather than PRO gamer.

same goes to a photographer, or anyone else.

if you notice columns in magazines or newspaper, they have columns titled ASK THE EXPERT, not ASK THE PRO.

if you saw The Sun newspaper yesterday, there's one page indicated a lady being wife in the morning, professional during work hours, mother after work hours - with the word PROFESSIONAL clearly stated.

expert = they are good at 'smtg'.. but their job is irrelevant with that 'smtg'
pro = they are good at 'smtg'.. their job is that 'smtg'

hope this would be even simpler... am i right goldfries?

haha... biggrin.gif

good question... for the answer to that, i guess you'll have to ask Maniac who started the poll why he chose 75% biggrin.gif
i'm merely quoting from the available options wink.gif
