Well, there are rumors about 7-10 new ISP's will be competing next year . And the backbones won't be TM. Let's hope it's true.

small town people like me have no choice........ it's not going to be profitable to set up a small broadband company in a small town, so we have to still use screamyx....... although my town is near penang, but I don't think Penangfon network will come to my town.......

realistically, if we talk in terms of business sense, one will need to fork out for a hell a lot of money in order to setup a ISP.

The question is rather, whether the money that is to be made from the broadband services will be enough to recover back the capital that has been spend.

Let's not even go into infrastructure - just look into international bandwidth. Just to maintain one international pipe out, it'll cost the company at least 1M USD. In order to support the running cost for the 1M USD.. say we pay RM77 a month for 1mbps... therefore... in order to cover 1M USD we would need..

1,000,000 X 3.65 /77 ... which is about 47402 subscribers..

And say the 1M is for 155mbps line (which is not the case, should be lower). Do you think its enough?
