My first Gigabyte experience is a P35W V2 that I bought 1 year ago, they’re not exactly as well known in the notebook community as their counterpart, but wow, it blew my mind when I received it a year ago.

Fast forward one year, the P35X V3 that I received recently look exactly the same as my P35W V2, you can’t even tell them apart if its lined up against each other. The slim form factor of the laptop, the smooth matte finish of its exterior, it still amazes me till this day. And its unbelievable how much muscle they’re able to pack into this slim laptop (21mm), a top of the line Nvidia GTX980m coupled with Intel i7 4720HQ. The best part is the WQHD 2880 X 1620 native resolution of its 15” screen. I’m not an expert when it comes to picture quality, but its really a sight to behold. I lined up a 15” Mac Book Pro with retina display next to it, the quality is comparable to the retina display of the Mac Book Pro. Have you ever wondered the possibility of playing Witcher 3 in ultra settings on a laptop with a 2880 X 1620 resolution? The Gigabyte P35X V3 can churn out respectable frame rates without breaking a sweat.

But compromise is the keyword here. With its slim form factor, the heat generated from extended hours of gaming is having difficulty to be dissipated through its vents. It is unwise to place it on your lap for gaming purposes, but even with normal usage, the laptop will heat up quite easily and within 30 minutes of web surfing and movie on my lap I’ve already felt uncomfortable with the heat. To siphon the heat, the fan is spinning so loudly that my boss sitting 3 cubicles away is able to notice something is up at my place and consequently a warning letter… Not to mention the audio quality of its built in speakers, its deplorable, at high volume, i can hear the speaker is like breaking. So my solution is to play games with a headphone, to filter out both the fan noise and avoid its speakers.

But to be honest, I’ve no regret for choosing Gigabyte laptop, yes, it heats up real fast, and yes, the ventilation fan is very audible but those are the compromise that is required for a laptop so thin and sexy. And did I mention it has a hot swappable slot for a DVD writer? I changed it to a 250G SSD for extra storage.

I'd recommend those who wanted to buy a gaming laptop to consider a gigabyte laptop, the built quality and the price:performance ratio is really good.

It appears you own one as well rclxms.gif

But you should know that there's no other laptop boasting GTX 980m with this kind of thickness.

Good review. But i still think that the Gigabyte laptops heat up really badly. that's the only negative review that i could give it.

Agree, heat issues are quite common among thin laptops, especially if you pack such hardware in it.

The fan noise though is very irritating, maybe its just me, but its like a hair dryer on my laptop, lol.

You should see my old P35W V2, the Nvidia GTX 870 is running on Keppler architecture, that one i can literally cook an egg on my laptop.

Dear Maxwells

We appreciate your input , and yes , in such thin laptop especially equipped with top of the line GTX980 GPU , it does get quite hot.

However , to minimize this problem, we have packed in two highly efficient fan modules to dissipate the heat generated by high performance CPU and GPU.

On top of that , a FAN TWEAK software is offered to give our users the option at their finger tip to adjust the fan speed.

another slim type gaming laptop worth to consider - MSI GS70 2QE comes with 5th Intel i7-5700HQ, GTX970M, super RAID... talking about heating issue, MSI has Dual Fan Thermal to maintain a constant cool temperature.. on top of that, there is a new feature called SHIFT to control/balance in between system performance & temperature..

MSI GS70 indeed is a nice machine.

speaking of slim laptops , Gigabyte also carries 14" P34W with GTX970m.
