Hello everyone... I'm sure you guys have come across news about notebook computers bursting into flames.. There's been cases reported all around the world, and a case even happened in Singapore. Not sure whether it's happened in Malaysia though. It's been discovered that the batteries in all of these cases are manufactured by Sony Corp, and the fire hazards are due to small particles causing the battery to short circuit.

Most of major notebook manufacturers are now recalling the batteries. Click on the links I've compiled below to check whether your notebook is affected with the sony manufacured battery recalls, and what to do if it is. Some manufacturers have also issued additional battery recalls but they're mostly because of battery performance problems, not battery safety problems, so i've not included them in the list. Be alert of any announcements from your notebook manufacturer, as some manufacturers who previously said they weren't affected are now recalling the batteries as well.

The battery recalls are causing a shortage in worldwide battery supplies, and new notebook prices are expected to rise! shakehead.gif

General Notebook usage tips
- If your laptop is affected, you can still use it. Shut down the laptop, take out the batteries, and use AC adapter instead. Send the battery for replacement immediately!! It's free, and do it before your important data gets roasted.
- Ensure your laptop gets proper ventilation; don't use it on your lap/bed/cushion/etc. A hard, flat surface is best.
- To avoid heat build up, you may want to consider using notebook cooling pads or speedballs.

mine is affected and i only noticed it today after reading the replacement program at acer website! here is what i posted to them just a few minutes ago to their support tech:

my laptop battery has suddenly appears to be weak even though i recharge it full and it refuses to recharge itself when i turn on AC power after i activate my laptop(meaning when I already at windowsXP,using battery, then i turn on AC power,it will not recharge,i'd have to turn on AC power BEFORE i turn on laptop). this problem started since February 2007. After going through Acer website support section, I read through ACER BATTERY EXCHANGE PROGRAM(http://www.acerbatteryrecall.com/AcerWeb/),and suprisingly my battery is among the wanted list! I have the "BT00604001" on green sticker and "0523" on red sticker(which is among the 0521-0545 stated at website)

does anyone know if ACER here at malaysia does replace our batteries? how and where? totally free-of-charge rite?
