Hi Guys & Gals,

Ok, I am considering the following models.

Acer Aspire V15 Nitro (RM3499)
Intel Core i7-4710HQ Quad-core (4 Core) 2.50 GHz
15.6″ Full HD (1920 x 1080) 16:9
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M with 2 GB Dedicated Memory
12 GB, DDR3L SDRAM
1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD
extend warranty to 3 years.
No credit card surcharge.

or the
Gigabyte P27G V2 (RM3999)
17.3" Full HD Display (1920 x 1080)
Intel I7-4710MQ
Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M 2GB GDDR5 with Optimus Technology (Maxwell)
8GB DDR3L SDRAM at 1600MHz
Intel 7260-AC WLAN + BT Upgrade
3.1kg with Battery, 2.5" Storage Drive and Optical Drive
Crucial M550 128GB MSATA SSD
500GB Seagate Solid State Hybrid Drive
FREE IC Diamond Thermal Compound Upgrade
FREE Professional Color Calibration .
2 year warranty.
Need to add another 2% for credit card surcharge.

Could you guys help me choose.
My purpose is mostly for work (CAD, ect & some FPS games). Can't afford a quadro GPU this is the next best thing. Also both laptops are not bling bling so can bring to work.

Weight is not a problem. Durability is though.

Appreciate your comments & advice.

Thanks,
Dbassnut

I recommend illegear for more reliable performance.

Otherwise, Acer cheaper with reliable service.
Although you have to buy at your own risk.
No detail performance review on this Acer model yet.

if 17" is not an issue for you, I would definitely recomend the gigabyte. too bad acer didnt bring the V Nitro 17 into Malaysia. it have extra BD-RW on top of what V Nitro 15 have. (albeit being 17")

Hi Shin,

actually the Gigabyte P27G V2 is from illegear. So far I find that they are very easy to deal with compared to Acer. Only thing is their laptop is going to cost me an extra RM600 or so. & they are in KL. I'm in Penang.

For the Acer Nitro, I've already viewed it at ESquare here & emailed their tech support. Not so easy to deal with.
The Acer Tech support wasn't too helpful & kept insisting that there is no way to install a M.2 SSD as they already had a 8GB cache SSD. Which basically the cache on the Hybrid hard disk. Took 3 emails til someone from Acer finally called me to explain that although there is a M.2 slot, Malaysians won't have to use it as the current specs was good enough. Any adding in of an extra M.2 SSD would void the Acer warranty.
On the good side, the ESquare sales ppl were much more helpful than Acer.

I still haven't decided though.

Nope, I know Illegear is authorized seller to Gigabyte, what I mean is why not choosing Illegear own model series?

choose Acer Aspire V15 Nitro

In my case, I've got so many choices. But I'm going to buy Acer Aspire V15 Nitro around next month. My other choices are Asus G551, MSI GE60, or upgrading my desktop GPU to gtx970 and getting other desktop components. But I will choose Acer.

I went to try out the demo unit for quite a few times and honestly, this laptop feels super solid. My friend's MSI GE60 is quite bulky. Same goes to Asus G551.

And I've got really good experience with Acer laptops for the past few years, when I use their laptop Acer 5750g back in the year 2010, I use for three years without claiming any warranty. Oh yeah, there is one very very minor thing that I really admire, the Acer recovery system. The one that you use to reformat your laptop by yourself, it's super user friendly.

I got think wanna get back into PC gaming and play those latest PS4 games on PC. My current GTX560Ti is quite weak even running on ultra settings 1366x768, there are lags and shutters.

If I really aim for a graphic card, I will choose GTX 970 for my desktop. Probably Asus Strix gtx970.

But then..I'm still doing my degree and I find it more effective not to play games, and focusing on my studies. Because of this, I will aim for Acer V15 Nitro. I need those IPS panels, looking really good, best for movies and doing AutoCAD assignments haha!

and one more thing, GTX 860M is more powerful than GTX 560Ti, although by a small amount http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-860M-v...orce-GTX-560-Ti

The quad core i7 and IPS, and SSD in Acer really attract me

OK. So far, I'm leaning more towards towards the P27G V2. A 17 inch screen would do wonders for my CAD work. & hearing that the Acer runs a little hot.

Plus cannot upgrade anything on the Acer without voiding the warranty. (Can curi upgrade M.2 SSD & remove when send for servicing but leceh).
Any comments.

Is the Guaranteed no dead or partially-lit pixels for first 180 days of purchasing option a good one, do we need it?

I look at V-nitro at showroom, on display already feel warm.
But review at LYN says can stand 3hrs of 90+ degrees
Funny they didn't specify got Bluetooth
and the 3 USB side-by-side... if socket big, middle cannot use.

No need to curi curi upgrade and leceh service...

Sounds like you are making the right choice.
Why not ask what the warranty covers?
Warranty should cover for dead pixels?

You planning to drill the machine for first 180days?
If not, then... what are the odds pixel dying? :D

Remember to spend your Xmas with family / friends.
