OMFG... retro tongue.gif

I still remember quite a lot of old school robot animes... but unfortunately I have no idea what they were called, maybe someone knows?

1. Erm... the golden lighter robot?
2. this is even weird... it's about 3 robots (small, mid, large) where the smaller one fits (like a Vitruvian Man) into the mid size, and mid into large... something like that.
3. now this is called 绝对无敌雷神王in chinese... it's about mecha which launches from a school and controlled by primary students... omg... cheesy

Mecha animes are usually japanese. Only M.A.S.K was American, and even then it was made by a Japan studio.

Tosho daimos, i love that when I was a kid

I'll always remember;

Macross (Robotech) as my first anime ever. Macross Saga FTW~!

There are a few incarnations so I'll be using the Robotech term interchangeably.

Robotech; Macross Saga
Robotech; Robotech Masters
Robotech; Genesis Climber Mospeada

Each one precedes one another.

Then came Macross Zero which detailed the landing of SDF-01 and Robotechnology, it was only a OVA of 5 episodes.

Currently I believe the powers (Tatsunoko?) that be are doing a series of the Robotech Sentinels; set between Masters and Mospeada.

More mecha anime!! Such as;

- Visions of Escaflowne
- Neon Genesis Evangelion
- RahXephon
- Patlabor (the series)
- Gun Parade March
- Bubblegum Crisis Neo Tokyo 2040 AD

Anything else to that? Hmmm *scratches head*

MASK was superb... still has the switchblade toy... top notch transfomation...

Americans do have their mecha, but they are more inclined towards heavy bulky mech warrior type machines...
Battletech anyone? The cartoon where they use funny looking 3D models and ugly grid for the terrain for battles... And the baddies always have some sort of glowing green scars on their skin... something like that.

Vincentlee83: i believe the correct name for the cartoon is called zone riders, whereby the main capt of the squad rides a big wheel n the rest rides a single wheel motor. all the baddies do is implant something like a reactor that makes all the people within the zone under their control. Not really 100% sure it is called zone riders, but it is zone something.

^^ Hah no wonder the bike designs is so similar to the Dino Riders one.

Spiral Zone is the correct anime that bike design came from. I think I even remember the song.

"Earth's most powerful soldiers,
Earth's last chance,
Against the Spiral Zone!!
"SPIRAL ZONE~!"

in robotech, protoculture is the fuel source that powers the valks. But in macross, its totally different things.

so,some of the macross fans dislike how robotech change the whole protoculture concept in robotech, thus making the whole storyline completely steer off from the original plot.

robotech protoculture = alien super fuel that powers the alien technology

when i was younger got alot of mecha shows dubbed in malay shown on public tv.

1. got this space car with 3 hero's. i think with 3 musketeer theme. anyway thye car can transform into a robot and they fight various enemies they come across.

2. got this lorry that can transform into a robot. one hero only. when transform into a robot the hero's suit will have cables connected to it for him to direct control the robot but if the robot gets hurt he will also get hurt. only got one main enemy. a race of human-like aliens with wings. i think they trying to conquer earth. anyway somehow their wishy-washy alien princess ranaway.....i think she is a humanitarian and don't like wars....plus she folded her wings to look human to blend in.....but got caught in a battle's crossfire....got saved by the hero who didn't show who she really is....later fall in love with each other doh.gif

can't remember alot coz only watched a few episodes but i remember them saying "jahanam" a billion times doh.gif

TRUTHERY!

You remind me of the superior tactic I liek to use in SRW@3:
1: upgrade Ideon's armor, add in booster speed to move more squares per turn
2: use iron wall, accelerate seishin on Ideon in the first turn
3: charge Ideon into the middle of the enemy army
4: let it get hit, blocking every hit, charge up Ideon meter thing to the max after 3 dozens of hit or so
5: cast luck seishin (x2 gold obtained), hotblood, sure hit, use infinity range Ideon Gun, map version, deal 30k damage to everything, INSTANT PROFIT!

I can't agree with that statement. Mospeada is a completely different anime, produced by a completely different company "Artmic Studio".

The Super Dimension Fortress Macross (超時空要塞), The Super Dimension Century Orguss (超時空世紀) & The Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross (超時空騎団)were actually from the "Super Dimension (超時空)" series produced by Tatsunoko.

Yes they were made by other companies and have their own story archs but have strong influence from Macross series but not based directly on Macross like Macross II.

Beast King GoLion @ Voltron

user posted image

Beast King GoLion (百獣王ゴライオン, Hyakujūō Goraion?) is a Japanese Super robot anime television series. The animation from GoLion was edited and trimmed to create the Lion version of the U.S. Voltron: Defender of the Universe series, with new names and dialogue, as well as several plot changes. An uncut Region 1 DVD containing the first 18 episodes was released on May 27, 2008 as Collection 1. Collection 2 was released in most stores on August 12, 2008

Voltron is a series of animated television programs, the first of which was titled Voltron: Defender of the Universe. There has since been a second series, made in the 1990s using CGI techniques. The 1980s Voltron series was based on two unrelated Japanese anime series GoLion and Dairugger XV (both originally produced by Toei Animation & Bandai). The anime was later dubbed into English and edited by the North American television production and distribution company World Events Productions. The adaptation was not a straight dub, however--as much violence as possible was removed from the original Japanese series.

Lion Force Voltron (Voltron of the Far Universe)

The first episodes were based on the 1981 series Beast King GoLion (百獣王ゴライオン, Hyakujūō Goraion?), and they featured a team of five young pilots commanding five robot lions, which could be combined to form Voltron. In this undefined future era, the Voltron Force was in charge of protecting the planet Arus (ruled by Princess Allura) from the evil King Zarkon (from planet Doom), his son Lotor, and the witch Haggar, who would create huge Robeasts to terrorize the people of Arus. Despite being the first of the two robots to appear on American television, the "GoLion" version of Voltron was regarded as "Voltron III" within the toyline because, within the original planned "three-Voltron" continuity, Arus was the furthest setting from Earth's side of the universe ("Voltron I" being intended for the Near Universe, and "Voltron II" for the Middle Universe).

Vehicle Voltron (Voltron of the Near Universe) @ Armored Fleet Dairugger XV

Later episodes were based on the 1982 series Armored Fleet Dairugger XV (機甲艦隊 ダイラガーXV, Kikō Kantai Dairagā Fifutīn?), and they changed the storyline considerably. In this iteration of Voltron, the Galaxy Alliance's home planets have become overcrowded, and a fleet of explorers has been sent to search for new planets to colonize. Along the way, they attract the attention of the evil Drule Empire, long engaged in an ongoing war against the Alliance, and the Drules proceed to interfere in the mission of the explorers and the colonists. Since the Voltron of Planet Arus was too far away to help the explorers, a totally new Voltron is constructed to battle the Drule threat.

Getter Robo G @ Getter Robo Go

Getter Robo G (ゲッターロボG, Gettā Robo Jī?) is a super robot anime series created by Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa and produced by Toei Animation. This direct sequel to Getter Robo was broadcast on Fuji TV from May 15, 1975 to March 25, 1976, with a total of 39 episodes (some episodes were rebroadcast, erroneously giving the impression that there were 43 episodes).

People familiar with Mattel's popular Shogun Warriors toy collection will remember all three of Getter Robo G's robot formations in that toy line: Getter Dragon (Dragun), Getter Liger (Arrow) and Getter Poseidon (Poseidon). As a result of the popularity of these toys in the US, Jim Terry included this series in his Force Five anime lineup under the title of Starvengers. The original Getter Robo series, however, has yet to appear in the US (although the Shin Getter Robo OVAs have appeared). In the UK, Starvengers episodes were released on video by Krypton Force under the name Formators.

Getter Robo Go (ゲッターロボ號, Gettā Robo Gō?) or Getter Robot Go also known as Venger Robo or Venger Robot Go, is a japanese mecha anime and manga series created by Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa. It was released in the US under the name Venger Robo and in Spain as Venger Robot Go. Also, sometimes it is wrongly written in Japanese as ゲッターロボ号.

Getter Robo Armageddon (真(チェンジ!!)ゲッターロボ 世界最後の日, Shin (Chenji!!) Getta Robo "Sekai Saigo no Hi"?), often simply referred to as Change!! Getter Robo in Japan, is an original video animation released in 1998 by Bandai Visual, based on the manga and anime series Getter Robo, created by Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa. The series, however, owes more to the manga than the 1970s animated adaptation, with designs closer to those of Nagai's original art, and a darker, more serious theme than the anime. It is a direct sequel to the audio drama 'Getter Robo: The Moon Wars', not the 1970s TV series (a common misconception).

Space Warrior Baldios (宇宙戦士 バルディオス, Uchū Senshi Barudiosu?) is a super robot anime series produced by Ashi Productions, with its full length feature film produced by Toei Animation in 1981, which has a strong environmental theme. Many of the pivotal episodes were joined and released as a "movie" in the United States as "Space Warriors: Battle for Earth Station S/1." The name of the Baldios mecha was unchanged, although it played a surprisingly small part in the movie that was created. In Italy, the TV series and feature film were exhibited under the name Baldios, Il Guerriero dello Spazio. In Cuba, another feature film version of Baldios was released in theaters, including much of the bloodshed and disturbing scenes that had been excised from the American version, under the name of Yaltus. However this version had some sexual content excised as well. As of today, the most complete version of the film is the Japanese DVD release.

GoShogun (戦国魔神ゴーショーグン, Sengoku Majin GōShōgun?) was a super robot anime series produced in 1981 and aired in 1982 in Japan. It is variously referred to in English as "Demon God of the War-Torn Land GoShogun", "Warring Demon God GoShogun", "Civil War Devil-God GoShogun" and "Macron 1".

A meteor strikes the Earth and is found to emanate a powerful new energy called Beamler, which is used to power a battle robot, GoShogun, and a teleporting fortress, Good Thunder. The Docougar Crime Syndicate, lead by crimelord Neo Neros, try to steal the secret of the energy from the inventor of GoShogun, but he kills himself rather than let them acquire it. His son is targeted by Neo Neros next, but he is taken in by the crew aboard Good Thunder, who travel the world fighting NeoNeros's forces with GoShogun. Eventually the son, Kenta, learns that he is actually an alien. In the end, Neo Neros's three officers side against him with the GoShogun crew. After he is defeated, Kenta takes GoShogun into space, back to his home planet.

The Super Dimension Century Orguss (超時空世紀オーガス, Chōjikū Seiki Ōgasu) is an anime science fiction series. It inspired an OVA sequel series called Super Dimension Century Orguss 02. Orguss was the second part of The Super Dimension trilogy from Big West, preceded by The Super Dimension Fortress Macross and then followed by The Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross.

Orguss was not localized in the United States as part of Robotech as Southern Cross and Macross were. Instead, the anime Genesis Climber Mospeada was used as the third segment of Robotech. Additionally, these three series are not sequels, prequels, or even in the same story universe as one another. They do share "The Super Dimension" moniker in their titles and were presented by Big West.

Of the Orguss' 35 episodes, only 17 of them were available in English in dub-only format in the early 1990s on video tape from U.S. Renditions, before the majority of the company's shows (excluding Orguss) were bought up by Manga Entertainment. Manga Entertainment did however release Orguss 02 on both video tape and DVD.

On April 16, 2007, ImaginAsian announced that they would broadcast The Super Dimension Century Orguss on ImaginAsian TV, and would thereafter give the series its first complete North American DVD release, with the first 17 episodes also having the old U.S. Renditions dub.

The robot transforms into a jet, while the show included intense battle sequences and aerial combat, it remained a secondary super robot series.

TEKKAMAN BLADE (1992)

QUOTE
In the Year 2087, the Earth is under attack from an extraterrestrial enemy; the Radam. The Radam are led by an even deadlier force, known as the Tekkamen.

Surrounding the Earth is the huge man-made orbital ring known as the Space Ring. The Space Ring was constructed well before the arrival of Radam and was the first human structure attacked by them. As the aliens attacked, those that were left either fled or were killed, and the Space Ring was largely abandoned, serving only as a battle ground for Blade and the Tekkamen.

Fighting against Radam and the Tekkamen are the Space Knights. Led by Commander Heinrich Freeman, the Space Knights are a Special Defense Force, and Earth's last hope for defeating the mighty Radam. The Space Knights consist of Bulls eye, the pilot of the Space Knights' ship the Blue Earth; Aki Kisaragi, the Blue Earth Navigator; Milly, Communications Operator; Rebin, computer wiz and mechanic; and Honda, Mechanic and Repairs. The Space Knights have been unsuccessful at repelling the Venomoids until the arrival of D-Boy (Dangerous Boy - Tekkaman Blade's nickname while amnesiac), a mysterious young man who has the ability to transform into the powerful warrior known as Tekkaman Blade.

QUOTE
Tekkaman Blade II is a 6 episode Original Video Animation.

10 years have passed since the end of the original Tekkaman Blade, and a new generation of Tekkaman must confront a powerful new enemy while rebuilding their forces.

D-Boy/Blade, the title character of the preceding Tekkaman anime, appears here as well but no longer plays a major role. The main character this time around is Yumi Francois, a young and bumbling mechanic who proves to be the unlikely third candidate for the elite Tekkaman fighting trio. Thrust into battle with very little training, she must earn the trust and confidence of her team-mates if she is to succeed and survive.

Gunbuster, known in Japan as Aim for the Top! Gunbuster (Toppu wo Nerae!) is a six episode anime OVA series created by Gainax in 1988. It was the directorial debut of Hideaki Anno, who is best known for his role as the director of Neon Genesis Evangelion. The title is a combination of the titles of classic tennis anime Aim for the Ace!, whose plot inspired Gunbuster's, and the 1986 film Top Gun. To celebrate Gainax's 20th anniversary in 2004, an official sequel to Gunbuster, Diebuster (or Gunbuster 2), was released as an OVA. The series features new characters and mecha, but retains the format and many of the concepts of the original series.

Aura Battler Dunbine (Seisenshi Danbain) is an anime television series created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and produced by Sunrise Studios.

Dunbine is set in Byston Well, a parallel world that resembles the countryside of medieval Europe with kingdoms ruled by monarchs in castles, armies of unicorn-riding cavalry armed with swords and crossbows, and little winged creatures called Ferario, or flying about offering help or hindrance depending on their mood. The main draw to the series were the insect-like Aura Battlers, used by the population of Byston Well to fight their wars. These fighting suits are powered by a powerful energy called "aura" or "life energy", which is transmitted to the suit by the pilot.

The series aired on Nagoya TV from February 5, 1983 to January 21, 1984, totaling for 49 episodes.

A few years back there was a series of torrents of compilation videos of mecha anime OP. There were 3 of them, "the 60s & 70s", "the 80s" and "the 90s". It had everything from Tetsujin 28 to Mazinger Z to all the Gundams, Neon Genesis Evangelion to Shinkon Gattai Godannar to Zoids. No idea who made them as there are no group credits.

It was pretty awesome watching them and thinking "Hey I seen this before!".

I burned them into cd-rs someplace, no idea where they are now lol.

In the distant future, humanity has explored beyond Earth and colonized both the inner and outer planets of the Solar System. In order to protect the colonies and maintain law and order in the solar system, the Earth Federation Government (EFG) was created. Soon, many settlers started to resent the EFG's and its sphere of influence, straining the relationship between the central government and the colonies.

While a strained peace was being forged between Earth and the colonies, a race of non-human creatures known as Deathcula invaded the System. Without provocation, they attacked the colonies and killed many of the colonists. The EFG quickly realized that the Deathcula were technologically superior and their forces were hopelessly matched. In order to have a chance at survival, Dr. Charles Louvre developed a transformable starship known as the Bismarck.

Knowing that an advanced team of specialists were required to operate the Bismarck, four individuals came together and were charged with keeping the outer colonies safe from further Deathcula attacks.

Hi, anyone happened to know the title for a japanese anime which the heroes drive a car that can transform into a mecha ?

no it's not transformers hahaha ...

I forgot the title, but the beginning of story is more and less like this :

There's a driver and a computer hacker who are both convicted for their crimes. So they end up in jail, one day they were given the option to be 'free' but they have to help to fight for good cause. They then agreed to do it, so they get to drive a car that can transform into a mecha. But both of them are in the same car, the driver is of course controlling the car/ mecha movement and the computer hacker is controlling the computer/ weapon system. So later they will fight against lots of other mecha's.

So that's the only thing I can recalled about the anime, anyone who happened to know the tittle pls let me know so I can find the movie again, thanks drool.gif

From the Wiki explanation, I can tell why I haven't finished watching the series :

Chō Kōsoku Galvion (超攻速ガルビオン, Chō Kōsoku Garubion?) is a 22-episode TV anime mecha series that aired in Japan in 1984. It revolves around criminals using robots to save innocents in exchange for years being cut from their long prison sentences. The program did not fare very well and had its planned number of episodes cut; a 23rd episode was partially completed but did not air. Episode 22 was a typical episode but had a 35-second epilogue tacked onto the end that explained the series' planned outcome via voice-over narration and stills.

So no hope to watch the end of it I guess cry.gif

I doubt so Bro, from the animenewsnetwork trivia of Galvion it's stated :

Galvion has never been issued on any video format in Japan including VHS, LD and DVD. That alone makes it one of the rarest anime shows to find, the only copies to circulate around fandom in the past 20 years have been old, degraded TV rips on VHS.

Galvion is one of the last shows to be produced by the anime company Kokusai Eigasha before pulling out of the industry completly, around the end of 1984. This was due to financial issues.

So basically the producer is bankrupt, that's why the movie hasn't finished yet ...

This is a great thread!

Really awesome to hear that everybody loved the 80s and 90s mech shows.

Has anyone see any mecha shows from the 70s? There were quite that many good ones. Ones made by Go Nagai.

Guys, I'm trying to recall the title of the anime where:

A kid (who is genius in computing) accidentally hack to his father (something like that) military robot project and make his cyber robot comes to live. The kid using keyboard to control the robot and has a plane that can merge with the head of the robot and together they fight Aliens from outta space. All I recommend is I watched this along with Tetsujin 28. In cantonese it's call 'Computer Warrior'. Any ideas what's the title?

If you're fanatic on the godmars, voltron, tetsujin go 28, then this should be one of the must have classics!

BTW viva google!

One more request, any one has any luck to find torrent for tetsujin 28 (1986)? Mind pm me the link? thanks!

Taking advantage of the long weekend to finally upload this (pain of slow uploads).

As per my description on Youtube:

"A compilation of OPs of mecha and giant robot animes from the 60s and 70s. I did not make this compilation nor was there any person or group credited with it when I got it off torrent in 2004. Wish there was, the compilations were brilliant! As far as I know each OP is arranged in chronological order of their original airing, so it is entertaining to see the evolution (and some horribly cheap copycats) of the genre.

There were 3 compilations, "60s&70s" (335mb), "80s" (700mb) and "90s" (700mb).

This is part one of three from the 60s & 70s."

Bear with with slow start, it gets better after Mazinger Z kicks in. Damn, their songs are catchy. Some really looks terrible, ridiculous and cheap bandwagon jumpers cashing in on the trend.

The 60s & 70s - Part 1 of 3

The 60s & 70s - Part 2a of 3 (messed up the length of this section and had to split it again)

guys..there was this anime i watch when i was young..

i only remember i got a robot like bird/phoenix another one is lion i think.
the phoenix robot got a technique where it will fly over the enemy and causing it to burn...

then when there are not able to fight off the enemy, then some where will come out a another robot and merge with them.

if not mistaken they are alien race running away from their enemy and according to their legend, the need to find help from Planet Earth.

anyone can recall what anime is it?
i tot is this one Zettai Muteki Raijin-Oh, but when i watch it..doesnt seems like it

seems like this guy also looking for the same anime
QUOTE
The series is about these three teenagers, they arrive on some planet, they manage to some how active three giant Mecha's, One is a gold mecha, another is a red mecha and the third is blue. (Sounds a bit like gundam i know) Any way during the series they encounter this human size mecha thats like silver white, this mecha is sentient and everytime they get in trouble it shows up in the nick of time and combines with one of the three mechas, The gold one transforms into a Tiger/lion Mecha, the Red transforms into a phoenix/bird mecha and the blue one transforms into a dragon mecha.

Other details i can rember are that this evil force make their own version of the human sized silver mecha, its black and is piloted by a traitor from the good guys team and the leader of the good guys team becomes the pilot of the silver mecha later on the series when the three giant mecha's cant fight the black one

So, not Megazone 23...? The main character did indeed lost his first bike and then he did replaced with another.

According to MechaHQ, it was edited into the old Robotech: The movie, and that was in 1986. If I remember correctly, tv3 did aired that movie during the 90's. Read below here.

Ok i try Check it but... I remember only 1 tape so must be 1 hour

Well, the original Megazone 23 is a three part OVA series, while Robotech: The Movie is a chopped and edited combination of Southern Cross and Megazone 23 plus new footage, so yeah, might be an hour or a little bit more.

Good luck though. thumbup.gif

Me. Me... drool.gif I have seen all of the original anime movies but not the tv series. Anyway, I have yet to watch the live action movie, but I read that overall it's pretty close to the original first movie.

Old school space battleship with very large cannons in space plus starfighters dog-fight sequence with some bit of space adventure storyline. ~ Yeah, somewhat like that. The first movie was pretty much the beginning of the earliest anime fandom in Japan. Pioneer of modern anime culture.

Oh well, worth a try. Still, you might find it when you're least expecting.

When i notice this thread, its already page 13..
So i skip reading and ask a question (maybe a repeated question)
Hope Bro-bro here with good memory can know what is the title of the show i'm finding

I'm looking for a robot anime / cartoon which i watched during the 90. I was like 5~7 years old.
The main character is a boy that have a flute (white in color i think, and shell like flute) that able to summon the robot to help.
The robot's shoulder is able to open up to shot laser
The robot itself need food to charge power.
I remember the robot lose a fight because the robot is hungry, the enemy (robot also) was provoked to use a skill that cause volcano to erupt.
The main character's robot eat up the lava and win the match.
There was a robot fighting competition in middle of the season, where they fight inside a wrestling like ring with 4 corners.

The robot was upgraded middle of season but when the robot was upgraded, it released a dark dragon aura to the space and the dark dragon aura was merged with a robot that was control by the main character's rival and upgraded his rival's robot too.

Should be a Japanese anime but i recall watching it Cantonese dub.
Been trying to find it for years, but do not know any key word to find.
Pls help me out.

Thanks

Help me to remember the cartoon title.. probably it's japanese

what i remember was it looks like transformers, the robot can transform into vehicle. the difference is that the robot has human inside it. the human inside the robot firstly transform from an ordinary human into armoured man, then after that he/she merge with the robot.

if i'm not mistaken, i watch the movie on TV3 around 90's.

thx

This happenned in the late 70s.  I would fight my grandma to watch this!!!  Really enjoyed it, the hero's fighter transformed into the head of the leading mecha.

the robot will upgrade over time naturally, like a snake peel of its skin
others robot also use traditional weapon instead of laser gun
the pilot plug in both his hand into 2 crystal ball and control the robot

Okay so, I'm trying to find an anime (I think. Might be a movie or something. Probably most likely the former.)

I don't remember much of it. It either aired on tv once or twice, or I watched it from a couple CDs/DvDs my dad brought home.
There's a black robot -not mech, he/it was human-sized- and a girl/lady. I think there was some sort of relationship between them. I think they were on an island, perhaps in a cave or something. The cave was collapsing and the girl fled I think, but the robot got buried by rocks and whatnot.

I remember in the last or one of the last episodes(?) the girl was outside in the yard of a house, wearing a sundress or something with a (straw) hat. I think she has brown hair.

He (the robot) might've had some red on him. I know there's another anime/movie with the same kind of robot/mech, but I know that one is a large mech and this anime/movie I'm talking about has a robot that's the size of a man, or similar. Timeframe is probably early 80s through the 90s. I watched it in late 90s or early 2000s. It was in English, dubbed I presume.

If anyone has any clues/comments/ideas please, PLEASE, email me at strangertoscream@yahoo.com OR kyrital@live.com.
I would be ever grateful! Thank you!!!
