What did you order? How many boxsets?

It's actually maybe dependent on the person who's doing the check. They have the guidelines but if that was enforced then every single DVD shipment would be taxed.

The officer telling me to do this looked and sounded suspicious to me.They did not declare my items as personal and made me go to the other KKDN building for them to examine the DVD and must get approval from two departments then only I can go back to pay the taxes.

The agent told me next time don't declare myself, find him so he can kau tim with the officers for the same fee so that I don't need to go through this hassle.

I'd say both parties are colluding to put victims like me through all the unnecessary red tapes to make me pay the money to them next time instead of paying tax(which I was supposed to get exemption from anyway).

I happen to see people from Rock Corner there at the time but they did not have to go through all that red tapes of declaring and KKDN examination nonsense.Something very fishy, they target normal citizens who don't know they system like me?

Be aware of this suspected CONSPIRACY,people! mad.gif

I only ordered 1 boxset.Amazon used a different box for DVDs,so my box was a slightly expanded DVD shipping box which still wasn't very large. The standard box Amazon uses to deliver CDs are still larger. But they can tax me higher on DVDs since its at 30%

RM98.42!!!???

For what? How many % are they charging here? You know what, I took a law subject before, let me see if I can find the act that says stuff below RM500 will be exempted from tax.

If it is in the law book (which we can buy in book stores), next time this happens throw it in their face. Better yet, you can report them for extortion and corruption.

On a side note, my Reservoir Dogs arrived safely in a week from CDWOW. I will definitely buy from them again. Highly recommended!!! thumbup.gif

The CD got 20% and DVD set 30% Import Duty, then both have to get another 10% Sales Tax for (Value + Import Duty),OUTRAGEOUS vmad.gif
We need to confirm if there is such exemption so we can prevent them from abusing their powers on unsuspecting victims! As if wasting our time and petrol travelling all the way to that place paying toll is not enough when they are supposed to deliver it to our doorstep mad.gif

Ok, I tried searching on the net di. Cannot find the full act online. At the Kastam website they talk about it but not details of what stuff can be exempted. Looks like I will just go to bookstore to look for it.

Guys, what happen if we receive a letter from customs? Do we ask Pos Malaysia to settle the taxes on behalf of us or we need to go there personally to settle it. I used DHL last time and I never paid a single tax because I order 4-6 dvds per order the most. As original region 1 dvds are much cheaper now, the shipping rates are about the price of two dvds so though of using EMS (aka Poslaju here). Can you guys share your experience with me? If for DHL, they'll pay taxes on behalf of us, how does it work if I were to use EMS (Poslaju). Mind sharing your experiences with me? icon_question.gif Thanks!

You can choose either way.I personally haven't tried asking Pos to settle for me because I don't know how much more they would claim for their "service".Doing it yourself is going to be pretty troublesome and they are going to do all sorts of things to waste your time.Going to the Kastam building directly (not the POS) and getting an agent to settle for you could save yourself some trouble like having to get your dvds screened one by one and all this. But I heard that if you use Poslaju service they cannot waste too much of your time either.I'm not very experienced in this so I'm not very sure how all this nonsense works whistling.gif

I'm not worried about the taxes, just sick of them requesting to screen the dvds one by one like bringing our dvd player, meet them, do this, do that. If I use Poslaju, will they have their own appointed agent to settle this nonsense, don't mind paying extra for the service. As I know, DHL and FedEx will only handle the taxes but not to the extend to help us let the customs screen the dvds. I though of using Poslaju since it's cheaper even I had no problems with DHL before. So any advice is pretty much appreciated here. smile.gif

I don't think you need to bring your own DVD player. If you don't to go through all that, try going to to the KKDN which is the building opposite the Pos Malaysia. There should be some agents outside, just show him your letter and ask him to settle for you.

what DVD titles u bought?? if those movies are screened here in M'sia, u can show them some info/docs indicating its not illegal, etc (just email/fax them some info about the movie)

i kena once.....i provide them with the relevant docs (stating my movies r clean)..then STILL have to appoint them as agent. i have to fork out RM60+ for their "fees, blablabla fees"

good luck

Are there any agents for doing such dirty job under Pos Malaysia or we need to find our own agents? Well, I'm from Penang, I know the customs cargo complex is near the airport, just hate meeting these custom officers, always want to makan rasuah, I ordered 20 original PS2 / XBOX from Hong Kong last year, the officer wanted to speak to me, nothing wrong with the games, he hinted me to give him $$$ and he will let go the games without taxes and screening. He must be kidding me, the games were never taxable, I have ordered many times from Hong Kong except for last year whereby my friends combined their orders with mine. Is it wrong to buy original softwares online. No point reporting to ACA, later we'll land into much more bigger problems especially when the customs blacklist our address and do nonsense to our orders. No wonder Malaysia's corruption index has fell a few places this year. Hai ....... doh.gif

since ur stuff is being held by the Customs, you need to appoint an agent to retrieve them (either appoint Pos Laju, other ppl or yourself) and whether u like it or not, u still need to pay the "processing fee" (paper work, etc) when ur stuff kena tahan.

for my case, i have to appoint Pos laju as agent and have my parcel send back to the nearest Poslaju office (from KLIA warehouse). Therefore i need to pay the "agent fee" / "processing fee"......

Sometimes, I don't mind paying for the processing fees but just hated it when courier service companies told me that it's better for me to settle it myself. Courier companies only offer to clear taxes on behalf of us but other than that like screen the discs, getting approval from this department, that department, you sendiri settle. What a rip off vmad.gif

Like ordering a video game console with 110V, they asked me to obtain approval from Jabatan Tenaga Negara. Gosh ........ for my personal use wanna ask me to go through all the trouble and in the end, found an agent, under table $100 to settle it, direct release. It's not that I support corruption but tell me lah, what can I do ........ rclxub.gif

By appointing an agent it means you send the letter and they will do everything for you,you don't have to go there yourself right? Then you have to pay the "agent/processing fee" in addition to the duty and tax?

I think the best just order 1-3 titles per shipment. I'm sick and tired with our custom's corruption. I didn't know they would ask for screening and all that shit, this will make it hard for me as i normally order Bgrades and indie movies.
