Mind if I ask....
Is the DVDs from the local stores are so expensive that buying online is much more worthwhile? I never really think of buying it online and after I saw some of your comments...it seem to be a good idea to buy it online rather than rely on local stores..
*

reasons y ppl buy through online :

-get DVDs that arent available here
-imported DVDs are better in terms of quality/packaging/etc
-sometimes its cheaper to buy from online

of cos, u have to take risk la...from payment to shipping/handling/delivery, etc

Great to see people are developing interest in online DVD stores. Well i buy online because i have a huge list of movies that are not available here, even if it is, it's heavily ridiculously censored. And i don't know with you guys but i just hate those KPDN & HEP (for CDs) and also the Akta Penapisan Filem (for VCDs and DVDs) stickers on the package. It's horrible. I prefer quality packaging.

Since this thread got pinned, please PM me the URL of online stores with added description (optional) so that i could start listing it all out on the first page.

Anyone own the prepaid Ambank Next-G mastercard? I'm wondering whether it works for online shopping.

Amazon.com covers for tax?!Since when??
*

Well no they don't but I wrote to them asking them what's up with this - because it's never happened before and they covered it completely. Even added extra cost to cover petrol + misc .. so it came up to $57.78. Maybe since I'm such a regular customer smile.gif

I've been reading the posts and it's supposed to be over RM500? I just got conned since the GG DVDs didn't go past that! $89.91 + $11.46 (shipping) = $101.37 = RM 340. Presumably it's targetted now because of the size of the box?!

More stories about online DVD shopping.

I ordered Due South Final Season from Amazon.ca on Jul 18th, by standard shipping (8 - 12 weeks) and it still hasn't arrived. I emailed Amazon.ca and they have just told me that they will be sending a replacement to me on Monday since it is "presumed missing". What's weird is I was just querying to ask what to do when Oct 3rd rolls around (that's the max delivery window) but I guess they know the process the best.

Also placed an order for Stargate SG-1 Season 9 from Amazon.com - out on Oct 3rd. It's the new thinpak boxset so it should be cool .. well, IF it gets here.

I'm a little wary now with the postal service. It's so inconsistent lately and I'm worried about getting taxed again. This is the first time buying from Amazon.ca/com since the Gilmore Girls incident .. so keeping my fingers crossed.

I've been buying from Amazon.com for years. Not Amazon.ca or Amazon.co.uk but only from Amazon.com. Try any other Amazon and you'll have problems with shipping, pricing, etc. Believe me. I've tried em all.

Amazon.com is perfect. Cheap prices and delivery is confirmed to reach you in about 10 days. If it's held by the customs, then that's the only time it'll arrive late. Even during Hari Raya last year my dvds arrived on time.

I've learn to buy in smaller amounts. Keeping the price down so customs doesn't stop my packages. If they feel like it, they can hold down goods at ANY price and make you pay tax. There's no written rule in their book that it has to be RM500 and above.

Books are not taxable. I brought in $1100 worth of books, and shipping came up to $100+. Reached me in like 2 days from Amazon.com

Beware of the customs, keep your shipments small. If you want to buy dvds, buy 2-3 at one time. Don't be greedy because the money you pay for tax could buy you more dvds the next time. Not worth it because you'll still end up paying more than RM100+ to get it out.

This may be a silly question, but i've come across with a few DVDs with rating: user posted image on Amazon.

There's one rating Unrated while the other one R-Rated. Aren't they both the same?

that means it's more explicit lah drool.gif

Amazon.ca sent me a replacement on Monday via DHL, all for free .. amazing service but then something that cheap is like chicken feed to them. It arrived earlier today.

In summary, no problems with Amazon.ca. It's good for Canadian stuff and sometimes cheaper because of the conversion + coupons (it has $5 or $3 off coupons from time to time). Just don't go with the standard shipping which is surface mail.

Placing another order with Amazon.com now .. to complete my SG1 collection .. heh.

I have bought games and dvd from yesasia and play-asia, no problem with them. packages from both site arrive in 5 working days from the date they sent it out. i always use free shipping for my purchase

usually my purchases are below 500 so no problem with custom so far, (touch wood) biggrin.gif

i prefer to buy from play-asia as each purchase comes with a USD5 coupon, yesasia doesnt have that, prices for both site are quite similiar though.

Yesasia is standard shipping (free above US$25). I haven't tried out other options but I am sure they are available for extra cost.
