My understanding is, so long the aggregate value of online purchase does not >RM500 equivalent in foreign currency, the parcel will not get stuck @ The Customs. Try Barnes&Noble.com and Tower Records dot com

Amazon.com
- but if over US$100 Customs will tahan and you have to go get it from KLIA Customs (long long drive and add the tax on top). I bought 3 Gilmore Girls seasons, which isn't anything but it hit over their *eyeing* price. The good thing is that Amazon.com covered for the tax when I wrote to them. Great customer service! Other shipments in all the years previously, no problems - books, cds and DVDs.

ok, my past encounter..attached pic :

if ur stuff is below RM500 or non-taxable items, u can try to argue with them with ur relevant documents, etc

well, it depends on luck..

once my DVDs kena tahan, although i've proved my DVDs r below RM500, i still need to pay a freaking RM60 for the "paper fee/processing fee/dont-know-wtf-fee" to retrieve my DVDs. (this time, im using lousy EMS postal service which means local national courier > POS LAJU)

play-asia usually gives free shipping to M'sia mar... of cos it will be much cheaper to buy from play-asia compared to Amazon.

btw, I'm another satisfied Amazon customer here smile.gif
bought 3 sets of LOTR:EE and Starwars Trilogy from them, plus a few other DVDs, no problem at all biggrin.gif

Cool, i think i'm gonna place my first order on Amazon. I'm into indie movies and they have a huge base of em on Amazon.

Not too long ago, i've read or heard somewhere where you can actually pay to download movies from a legit website. More like DIY DVD feature where you can download the movie plus with its covers and inlays and later print it to make your own DVD package. But i forgot the URL sad.gif

Anyway i don't favour downloading. Else i would be massively downloading from BT. Nah, i prefer the real deal, hard copies for me.

This may be a silly question, but i've come across with a few DVDs with rating: user posted image on Amazon.

There's one rating Unrated while the other one R-Rated. Aren't they both the same?

No I believe DVDs that are rated-R are suitable for adults while Unrated means nobody offically rated the DVD so watch it at your own risk?

Does the below RM500 apply to all items or just specific items only? My item stuck at customs twice and my item cost below RM500. Does RM500 includes shipping or just the value of the items itself?

Btw, y do u say EMS lousy? Isn't EMS one of the fastest? At least faster than normal Airmail

^ Murder In Suburbia DVD comes in a very small box set. small parcels with value less than RM400~500 will be "dilepaskan kastam" without tax.

Mind if I ask....
Is the DVDs from the local stores are so expensive that buying online is much more worthwhile? I never really think of buying it online and after I saw some of your comments...it seem to be a good idea to buy it online rather than rely on local stores..

Just went for a look at CD-WOW and one of the documentaries which I wanted, cost 1 GBP (RM7) cheaper compared to amazon.

However, I would still recommend Amazon.co.uk because of their excellent customer service. I had some problem with the delivery before and they are very helpful/friendly to help me clear it up.

Is there any particular website you guys buy documentary?

Hi, anyone knows any online cd stores than ships to malaysia? i wanted to preorder 2 boys like girls but amazon doesn;t ship to malaysia and i've tried www.smartpunk.com and after the taxes it adds up to 80+ for an album

QUOTE(expl0it @ Aug 22 2006, 12:12 AM)
Amazon ships cds, dvd's and books to Malaysia without any probs. Been ordering stuff from them for a while now.

If you're buying cd's, they charge :

$3.99 (standard fee per package, will cost $6.99 if you order books) + $2.49 (per CD), so if the threadstarter were buying 2 cd's from Amazon.com, the shipping + handling charges would be 3.99 + 2.49 + 2.49 = US$8.97

The Boys Like Girls cd costs $9.98 on Amazon. Retails today. So if you order from amazon, your total cost for 2 of these cd's are = US$ 28.93

EDIT : Shipping prices mentioned above are calculated using the cheapest available shipping method. The final delivery is done by the local postman. Usually when you order stuff to be delivered here, it is sent from the Amazon distribution center in Germany. If you're using the cheapest shipping, it takes about 11-16 days to reach here.

If one has the $$, go buy, buy, buy from US online stores!. (except Asian albums) You're almost assured of US pressed quality (unless its listed as import). I've yet to try HMV Japan and its goddamed expensive but Japanese quality is fabulous too. (for the albums I desire)
Local pressed discs are CRAP!...asking for top dollar with least value given!.

Hint: Just DON'T order more than 2-3 at a time and lessen risk of local customs detention.

well, it depends on your luck....sometimes your parcel will get through and sometimes not...tengok "season" biggrin.gif (if u know what i mean)

EMS is not lousy...and yes, its better than standard mail. For example, if your parcel is from HK...they will use HK SPEEDPOST to send the parcel to you. but when the parcel reached here, MALAYSIA POS LAJU will take over the job. so, you know la...the quality of the delivery/service
