The last time I saw the prices of the camcorders were

Sanyo HD2000 - RM2700
Canon HV30 - RM4200

Could be different now.

any here using canon camcorders, i've read many good reviews for Legria series, i'm currently eyeing on hf200 or hfs100. i don't see mnay people using canon cam here. instead there are plenty of sanyos. Is sanyo really that good. i only know sanyo as a battery manufacturer lol.

I am sure there are many Canon camcorder owners out there as well as for Sony and Panasonic since these are the big three in camcorders. I am also surprised that there are many Sanyo owners in this Forum. The Sanyo is certainly not the best camcorder available but it is good value for money. The main weakness is the lack of Optical Image Stabilisation. You can see my sample videos in Vimeo, just bear with the shakiness. Here's the link to one of them, a 1Malaysia birthday party. This was taken in indoor lighting so a bit noisy.

Birthday with Sanyo HD2000

Am looking for a HD cam with solid storage .. budget will be less than RM4K. This is for personal use, so don't really want to go for a higher end one. Any recommendation? I was looking at Sony but by friend told me to go for Canon instead.. anyway .. my previous experience using cam was .. he..hee.. ages ago.. on JVC.

Hi voonz, congrats on your new toy. So now just play with it and tell us the good and bad about the camcorder so others may learn when considering buying one. Somehow, not many people want to share their experience after getting their camcorders in this Forum.

You mean if you shoot full HD, it will drop frame?

You open up first then we follow....

As for me... I'm not a video guy... at least not yet.... I'm a photography guy.... TM300 is my first HD cam, so I have to start all over again. Learning how
to shoot correctly. Finding the right editing software for my skill level and the right editing equipment considering I'm a total noob. Therefore, I have nothing to
compare with.... Hence the silence laugh.gif

If I compare it with photography... I can say TM300 is much like point and shoot camera... But very good one. IQ is excellence. I love the compactness. I can bring it anywhere... but it is a trade off. I used to own a 30D and now an ancient 1Dmk2. 1D is huge, but got speed and accuracy. It is always like shoot and forget. With the 30D, I will always shoot and check. Check if AF is accurate or exposure is spot on... but pro series 1D... it will be dead on.

I have to say TM300 is slow. I play around Sony pro model ( I don't know what model, but owned by my company broadcasting section). It is a Sony HDV model. That thing is great to handle just like a 1D series camera. It is like, you drive a proton Satria neo all your life.... suddenly Sultan of Brunei throw you a key to his Ferrari F450.... once you hit the gas, you know this is a real car... and all this while you driving a toy car.... Should I say more... nod.gif

Hi everyone.. new to this part of forum

I'm currently surveying on handycam, trying to decide which one to buy. I've read few pages back and read some useful info from you guys. I currently have my eyes on sony hdr-xr520e. I have the normal mini dv handycam but i want hi-def with hdd. My friend bought the 120gb one (sony) and I'm impressed with it. But is there anything else in the market that can top hdr-xr520e? I've always been a sony person, even though they're overpriced but i don't care lol What i'm looking for in a cam:

- hi definition.. this is for long term. If i want to invest money in buying cam, i need the best in the market for home user in case i need to use hi-def in the future

- HDD.. the most important. i'm so sick of rewinding/forwarding, capturing, waiting to capture footage from the mini dv tape that usually takes at least 3-12 GB of space. Besides, only my laptop can capture using firewire, my pc don't have firewire card. And i'm also sick of having to buy tapes everytime (i'm not the kind to overwrite tapes) Besides, should i need to transfer the video in someone else's computer, it's gonna be a problem if they don't have firewire and all..

- manual focus.. so i can control depth of field.

- external mic input

- i love the stabilizing feature from xr520v reviews i saw on youtube

- low light fix

But yeah... RM5000+ is not cheap for a handycam sad.gif

xr520 is currently the best for low light and and the gigaultrastabiliser (you really really have to see it in person OMG even a lot of pro cams kalah). other features are pretty much lebih kurang.

sharpness is very very good, and considering its using 16mbps bitrate instead of other cams using 24mbps thats proven not as optimised as it should be.

the thing about sony that makes me a fan (brand wise) compared to pana cams is simply their decision NOT to put the power plug inside the battery slot, which panasonic loves to do (dumbest decision ever). so you could charge and use the power at the same time. you can tell me pana does this and that better, i don't care whistling.gif until they fix this, wont go pana hahahhaha

Hi there,

I am back after a long 'honeymoon' with my new baby the Panny TM300. A fantastic camcorder. Underated because it is a 'panny'?

Have shot and edited 30 short videos and have problems uploading to Youtube AFTER editing. The post production suxs.
Using Sony Vegas software. You can go to my Youtube account 'donaldghtan' and view all videos but still could not be in youtubes HD.

The TM300 is still the only camcorder with full MANUAL overide. This is really important even for shooting aircrafts coming to land at KLIA.
My buddy's new Canon HD camcorder autofocus suxs! Poor thing. but then, maybe the 'cameraman' is still learning how to use the cam.

Another problem. My TVIX model 5000 cannot playback m2ts files. Need to spend and buy the new TVIX 7000 for AVCHD m2ts codec.
Sheeeese! Also cannot view on my LCD TV full HD all my own work after editing!

Help!
Cheers and Regards

render to WMVHD 720p, make sure bitrate is around 2mb or 3mb. try to make sure the filesize is less or around 100MB per video. youtube will instantly recognizes it as HD (because the info is built in inside the codec info straight away, so youtube has no reason not to set it to HD), not HQ. you can try other codecs to render to, like avc avi, and tweak2 to make the image SLIGHTLY sharper than wmvhd, but really what's the point.

and this time, make sure your project settings in vegas matches your video resolution (should be 1920x1080) and pixel ratio - should be 1.0 not 1.3333 or anythign else. when render baru set to 720p lah.

oh and small, bright blue arial text over black background kenot go la. at least make the text bigger, and less arial. experiment a bit la brader!

and no need fade in/out for so lama. text can appear lama la, but no need to fade in so lama. fade out can be slow, but gradually should fade out faster. right click on the fade out line to change the fade out style.

I am a fan of panny cameras and would have bought the TM300 if not for the price. Thanks to your videos in Youtube, I now know the name of the bird that I captured in my video - Bird Watching. It is the female sunbird, right? Do you also know the name of the plant in the video? I am not a real bird watcher (only watch the human kind rolleyes.gif ) and captured this sunbird by chance but I like to shoot flowers because of the colours. My flower video below is somewhat similar in idea with your Flowers HDtest 01. Just to enquire, was that flower video shot totally hand-held and was the sunbird video, HD test 009, shot with a tripod? Also the videos seem not too sharp at times, is that because of the editing and uploading to Youtube? I am sure the TM300 can do better than that.
The major weakness of the Sanyo HD2000 is the poor IS and also the slow focus; but it is good value for money. If you can tahan the shakiness! rclxub.gif

Flower Macro

Since you are an oldhand in videoing nature, please give your comments on the above videos. Cheers.

Hi all, I'm still in dilemma choosing a camcorder.
Needed some recommendation before buying.
My budget is btw rm2000 - rm2500,
Any brand/model as long as it is worth for the buy,
primary expectation is good in low light and image stabilizer.
