If you're just starting out, multi-effects is the ideal way to go. It's the fastest way to get a decent tone and play with effects. Individual stompbox will cost you a lot and you have to do quite a bit of research before purchasing one.

And if you want to pull off some Tom Morelleo stuff without breaking the bank, you REALLY need a multi-effects unit........
His original Digitech Whammy Pedal already costs over RM1000....

I suggest the Zoom series if you're on a budget...... not the BEST effects quality, but still pretty decent for the price (I'm using the GFX-5 by the way).

a GT-8 or podxtl shoud serve most of your needs... both are amazing and it doesnt cost a bomb too...
but if you want that lil bit extra ... individual stompboxes are the way to go
but seriously.... we dont live in a perfect world and everything cost money so sort out your finances and see which one suits you

but not like settling for either would solve anything.... GAS would get you eventually
ITS NV ENOUGH!!!!!

That's true........ but I wouldn't recommend the GT-8 for beginners.... there's soooooooooooooooooooooo many options and tweaks that a beginner will get lost and will probably never get the sound they want.

I would highly recommend the POD XT Live if you have some extra dough lying around........ very easy interface, able to hook up to the PC and all that..... But it DOES cost a pretty penny..... about RM1700 (am I right on this??)

But like I said, value for money, the GFX-5 retails for around RM800....

yea...gt8 isnt for beginners. theres too many things to tweak. ive seen beginners using gt8 before, and with their inexperience tweaking, theyll sound better with just 2 or 3 simple stompboxes.

actually for the price of gt8 and podxt live, u could get a few decent stompboxes. but then, muse and audioslave use alot of effects so i would recommend a multieffects pedal.

But actually, I learned alot from my Multi-effects unit...... So I can pick and choose stomp boxes that will suit my needs later.....

Like Right now..... the sound that I want is a warm Marshall Crunch, with an Overdrive, chorus and a wah..... probably throw in a Phase, Flange, a Rotovibe and a Whammy Pedal to complete everything.......

waittaminute......... that sounds like Zakk's setup without the Whammy!!!!! OMG!!!! Thank god I don't worship someone like Steve Vai with his racks and racks of effects...

u worship vai u die....
it'll take forever to obtain all the effects needed to get his tone...
just stick to a simple multi effects
GT8 and pod xtl more of a higher level.
using it and fully utilizing it is 2 different things

If you wanna talk about cheapest... look at Jack White... ok, so his amp and pedals are pretty pricey, but definitely not far away from a few Angus's Marshall stacks.

And his guitar... Less than 100USD? tongue.gif tongue.gif

i've asked so much about G2.1U in this session......finally i think that my real needs is a distortion pedal.....but not all a multi effects/fx....between....money is a factor too....i'm now facing financially shortage as i need to buy a new pedal...change guitar's pickups(probably).....and accessories........

btw...i would suggest u to do more research no matter u're thinking of buying a stomp boxes or else a multu effects pedal.....it's serious.....otherwise u'll regret after that.....

Oooooooh... B-day prezzie???
Get either the POD Live xt or the Digitech GNX 3.....
If you are going to be using it for recording and stuff like that, get the Digitech.... it has much more options for recording to your PC and even memory cards.....
But if you just want a great amount of effects, go for the POD xt live....

no no no....
for great amount(quantity) and QUALITY effects go for GT8. for amp modelling and just a lil taste of effects go for podxt live. ive tested them side by side with the latest patches(podxt live) at home. cons for gt8 and the modelling isnt as good as xtlive and requires knowledge and experiece tweaking diff parameters to get EXACTLY what u want.

both are around rm1.7k. i think u can get the gt8 slightly below that from js music.

Yeah, but if he's a beginner, the GT-8 is just going to KILL him with the controls.
