WEP

Well , I am not going to go in detail. WEP is pretty much easier to setup. Almost all , yes..All the wifi devices in the market supports this protocol at least. So it does not matter if you have a 2000 WiFi card and the latest router. Your old WiFi card could connect to your router [which is protected via WEP]. Its standard. Downside , its easier to crack. You could get a WEP key within 10 minutes [That is if you have the right card , and you know what you're doing]

WPA - Pretty much to fix WEP's Problem. There is one problem with WPA , its overhead cost. You are pretty much paying security for the price of performance. If you have slow Computer and you have WPA-enabled you will notice that it lags [Same goes for PDA , try to transfer a large file from your PDA to your PC/PC to PDA and you will notice its somewhat slow].

So again it depends. For me , I choose WEP , because in Malaysia.....Pretty much people dont have the time to crack other peoples wifi network because :-

1. They dont have the right card [Not all cards could be in 'passive' mode]

2. They would need to set their computer right [aka they have to install linux , do this and that]

3. They dont like waiting.....

I wonder why this guy bumped this old thread anyway. Old Threads are Old thread and his question isn't relevant at all. Anyway , thread locked

reason : its an old thread already , and there is no use of bumping old threads
