U try to download RivaTuner from guru3d.com.....its an overclocking tool for GPU...
But as a friendly reminder pls don push your GPU too hard...problems will occur when u do that...
By the way Crysis is too hard on GPU laa...i don think 9800GT will do very well in high quality with AA turn on even after u overclock the card....
By the way, since ur using 9800GT, i'm curious to know how much u score in 3dMark06?
I wanto know how much different is 8800GT and 9800GT...on paper they looks exactly the same to me hmm.gif

Gigabyte has its own overclocking tool called Gamer Hub, has anybody try it before? how was it? I haven try the 3dMark on my card. 9800GT is rebranded from 8800GT and in my opinion their performance should be identical. By the way, i tried COD 4 last night with highes setting mode and the performance is great!

The stock 8800GT runs at 600 core, 900 memory and 1500 shader clock. So your base clock speed (660/950/1650) is already considered 'overclocked.' If you have a decent brand, it may have come factory overclocked with those settings - if that's the case, you can raise it to the settings you asked, without any problems.

However, if it is not factory overclocked, I wouldn't go any further - in fact, I tried similar settings on my 9800GT and it lasted about 10min in Crysis before I started getting strange 'effects' and eventually the card gave up and I got a system error.

It's not so much the heat you have to worry about, the card can fail on you even before temperatures get hot.

BTW, I'm using an XPertVision 9800GT with the oversized factory heatsink and fan - runs at 39 deg C at idle, which is pretty cool. Even at 700/1000/1800; the temp never exceeded 58 deg C before the card started producing artifacts. The card is nothing special, so it's likely the GPU die came from a standard batch.

You can use ATITool to scan for artifacts while using RivaTuner to change the clock speed (I had problems using ATiTool to adjust the clock speed on my NVidia).

Still using RivaTuner for NVidia cards. Easy to use and works like magic. biggrin.gif

9800GT is only 256 bit with 512MB

even with a decent processor, to run very high at 1280 x 1024 or higher with AA 4x or more you will need a GTX 280
or 9800GT in SLI or 9800GX2, even 9800GTX won't cut it.

An 8800 Ultra might be okay though.

The game can run, of course, but it won't be super smooth as in 45fps.

Damn!1

That's way too hot. You're gonna boil water on that thing!

Does your CPU run over 60C at full load too when the GPU is also at full load? If so, your case design and fan placement may not be so good.

Either way, you need to upgrade the cooler and I also recommend taking a look at your case. Need to make sure the case temp isn't reaching 45C.

At that temp, what kind of OC'ing you getting?

I think you'll need to get a Coolermaster Aquagate or some sort of liquid cooler for your GPU. Or go back to stock speeds.
