Hi, I have problem with my home LAN

I got 2 PCs (both winXP)

PC1 connected directly to the streamyx modem, got 2 N/Cs and suppose to share the internet to the 2nd PC

PC2 with 1 N/C connected directly to PC1

Here is my setting:
PC1:
-> the IP for N/C that connect to the modem 192.168.1.3
-> the IP for N/C that connect to the home LAN 192.168.0.1, empty gateway (note: if i don't set this IP manually, the PC2 can't share the files and resources of PC1)

PC2:
-> get the IP addr automatically and DNS automatically
-> ipconfig will get 192.168.0.168 with gateway 192.168.0.1

when I goes to Network Connection of PC2, I can see the Shared internet connection of PC1.
But the problem is I can't go to any web pages from PC2, the transmission bytes are too little
approximately 1000bytes - 3000bytes
how to solve this problem?

Currently I setup the proxy in PC1, so that in PC2 can access the internet via proxy.
But there is limitation on some web pages and online games can't be
loaded

Please help, thanks

err... try changing the IP address of PC2 to 192.168.1.4 than both DNS put 202.188.0.133 & 202.188.1.5(it's standard so every1 also same) gateway both also put 192.168.1.1(ur modem's IP)... from my understanding even wif router if no DNS or gateway u can't o9... and if ur 1st 3 group of number in ur IP address should be the same if u want to get proper connection... juz found out lately... correct me if i'm wrong... notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

I guess I should be able to understand what you wanted. Firstly, will the PC1 be 24/7 on ? If it will be switched on 24/7, then no problem you can just setup a remote desktop to be able to control PC1 when you're on PC2 but if PC1 is not switched on, there is nothing you can do there.

Yes you are right if PC1 is not switched on to do the dialing then there is no way to connect. No problem in playing local network games too.

Hi guys, want advice on what to get for network setup. According to the picture (on the LEFT), now only 1 PC using streamyx - direct phone line to ADSL modem, then to PC, easy right?

So, if I want to add 1 more PC and a laptop (wifi) like in the picture on the RIGHT, what do you guys suggest? FYI everything running WinXP Pro, and PC #1 will be on most of the time; PC #2 and the laptop only want to surf a few hours each day.

Attached Image

Overkill solution also ok, may want to add other PCs later.

Guys is it possible to link 2 wireless routers together? hmm.gif

the network should look like this.

Modem 1 <connected to Router 1>

Many PCs <Wired to> Router 1 <Wireless to> Router 2 <Wired> to Many PC

My Ultimate objective is to be able to have 2 small LAN networks connected to 1 modem to the Internet.

I wanted to do this because I got quite a few of PCs split between a 3 story house.

Now I already have One single port modem-router D-link DSL-520T + One 4port wireless Modem router Zyxel P-660HW-T1.

This network guide dont seems to mention any.

in term of performance and reliability,it is advisable to connect those two wireless router together wired.i am not quite sure whether you can or not connect 2 wireless router without wire.

Assuming your DLINK will do the dialing and the routing,just set the wireless modem as a switch(NAT and DHCP off).Connect both together using the normal port not the WAN or UPLINK port.Let say u buy another wireless access point with routing function,connect both together (Zyxel+new wireless router)using the normal port again with NAT and DHCP off.Anyway this one is for one LAN.

For two different LAN.

QUOTE
My friend and I live oposite each other separated by about 7meters. I have a D-Link G604T wireless DSL router, my friend has a Belkin 54g DSL Router. We each have our own separate networks and internet connections. At the moment the only way I can access files on my friends network is to disconnect from my router, and connect to his.

What I'd like todo is to somehow connect the two routers together (wirelessly), so we can access each others shared files without having to disconnect from our networks all the time. (This also means that if I need to use the internet i'm stuck with using my friends slower internet connection)

How would I go about doing the above?

QUOTE
We did the following;

1. On my friends "main" computer we inserted a cheap 802.11g USB network adapter

2. Setup one of his adapters to connect to my network, and the second adapter to connect to his network automatically.

3. Using Windows XP (which we are both using) you can select the two connections on his computer and select bridge.

By doing the above we are able to achieve exactly what we were after. I can see his network and all the machines connected to it, and my network and everything connected on mine, without disconnecting from my router. Basically we can see all the computers on both our networks without having to keep disconnecting all the time.

Performance is not much of an issue here as long it can comfortable surf internet.
So in short that means I can use the D-link modem router to do the routing?

Your suggestion sound something like this:

D-link modem (router enable) <-connected to WAN-> router 1(as switch/bridge)

<-wireless->

router2(as switch/bridge)

but Can I use my router to do the routing job, instead of D-link?
D-link modem (router disable) <-connected to WAN-> router 1(NAT DHCP enabled)

<-wireless->

router2(as switch/bridge)

Does this setup work? Can PC in router 2 able to network with PC in router 1 and also internet?
