I use this one - AVS DVD Player.

Along with DVDs it plays H.264, 3gp, Quicktime, WMV-HD and others. Comes as freeware, no ads or spyware, and includes some interesting features like changing aspect ratio or bookmarking your favourite spots in a DVD. Has a nice audio processing feature which makes stereo files sound like 5.1 or 7.1 surround!

Quick grab AVS DVD Player at http://www.avsmedia.com/DVDPlayer/

hey there... i got a problem with my .mkv videos(i burn them into a dvd------> data files).. i used to be able to play them but right now i can't.. When i play the video, i only hear the audio but there isn't any pictures.. all i can see is a very fine vertical line.. i m guessing that it is the video picture which somehow got compressed into this fine vertical line....

Any ideas to wat's da problem anyone??

Hi! Everyone,
Anybody tried the Korean player 'KM Player'. I have installed
it and now it's my default player. Tried all others but none
can compare to this KM Player. rclxm9.gif

You must register(free) to download. But there is another site,
no registeration. Go for the English version. For skin, go for 'WMP 11'.
Site for download : [url=http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Video-Players/KMPlayer.shtml]
http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=KMPlayer
Try it. This is th best player at the moment. rclxm9.gif
Their official site: http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/index.php

Meh, if I want a complete all in one player, WMP is still the best for me. If not I can always use the low resource MPC

It must be related with codec pack or splitter. Try re-install your codec (or codec pack). If still same, download & install Haali Media Splitter. Get it from free-codecs.com

but the codec can't handle it...during fast-moving scenes it becomes pixelised...

so i'm wondering which codec can handle such huge video file? rclxub.gif

becoz the bitrate isnt given enough at fast moving scene, so it become blocky.

the pixelized scenes still there no matter what decoder u use rolleyes.gif
but decoder + deblocker(post processing) might solve the pixelized problem.

any mpeg4-asp decoder(xvid, libavcodec, divx) should be no problem to hadle this video, as long as ur computer is able to handle the power hungry post processing filter.

Is your friends laptop fast? biggrin.gif
the 2000kbps and 1440x810 really can slow things down if u are using wmp or whatever directshow-based player.

i suggest u try vlc nightly,
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win32/?C=M;O=D
try branch build. (trunk build had wierd problem as the ugly black box will popup when vlc startup biggrin.gif )

Divx player is great too, if ur computer have ATI video card(9200 above?),
it can use ATI hardware accelerated post-procesing to enchance video quality.

Which is available from full installation.

Hmm, try the attached file.
put it into winamp components folder, and restart winamp.

The plugin is actually from the mess patch.

Newer version with unicode support :

I am having problem playing x264 mkv as i can not get it tp play on any of my media player smoothly. Once a while when there is a complicated scene the picture will freeze but only audio continues to play, then the picture will skip a few seconds and continue playing untill the next freeze. I have ffdshow and Haali Media Splitter install. i am not sure if its my hardware not fast enough, or its the setting in my media player or ffdshow. Below is my computer's specs:

P4 2.8 Prescott
DFI Lanparty UT 915
1 GB Corsair XMS RAM
Nvidia 6800GS PCI-E
Creative Audigy 2 ZS

So can anybody who can play x264 mkv files tell me what media player u use and what is the setting?

Added on March 10, 2007, 12:40 amOk after trying with Purevideo, Cyberlink.H264 and CoreAVC Decoder. Turns out that the CoreAVC Decoder handle this x264.mkv best with minimum lag. How ever the cpu load is close to 60%~80% most of th time, where the other 2 will be around 40%~60%.
I will stick to CoreAVC for the time being untill a better decoder is out.
