Hello All,

I have created this one-stop thread for everyone that wishes to know on Port Forwarding. This includes , the definition , Complete How-To Guide and the risks of Opening a Port. I have created in the form of Q and A.

Q : What is Port Forwarding all about ?

A : Port Forwarding creates a `tunnel' through a firewall, allowing users on the Internet access to a service running on one of the computers on your LAN, for example, a Web server, an FTP or SSH server, or other services. From the outside user's point of view, it looks like the service is running on the firewall. [Source]

Q : How Do I Open a Port ?

A : Visit http://www.portforward.com and then choose your Router/Modem. There is a step by step guide along with pictures. So there is no problem with that. It also covers every aspects of Port Forwarding as well. Its a pretty neat site

Q : Okies..I get it all now. But whats the risk , captain ? ......But.....At What Cost ?

A : Its much like opening a window or a door. You could have people coming in and going out [same concept applies to Networking as well]. You would have the risks of ' Intruders as well. For more information , please click here !
