Now with AM2 out and Conroe due in July, I think it's about time we started having a discussion and benches in terms of bandwidth for DDR2 modules. I've been searching around on the net and there hasn't been a properly collected DB of DDR2 overclocking.

Do share with us your results and screenies. Even if you're running it on P4

In order for a recognised database, please include links to CPU-Z's verification page for your rig and post screenshots of SiSoftware Sandra bandwidth test (Unbuffered)

Ranking will be done in terms of DRAM speeds obtained. Not processor clockspeeds or percentage of gain. However in the event of equal frequencies, I'd like a screenshot of bandwidth utilising preferably SiSoft's Sandra (Unbuffered)

Timings and rated Mhz are actually divided in 2 for general reference to DDR. It'll be easier to look at it that way. The advantage DDR2 has over DDR is that the bandwidth has increased significantly if clock to clock (For example DDR 400 Vs. DDR2 800)


thanks for posting but I had a look at it before this. It's just a list of possibly clockable modules but we need a proper database of proven clocks like those currently available for DDR's (e.g. screenshots, settings and stuff) like tone has posted. I wanna start gathering an OC'ed database

wouldja believe Corsair hit PC10,000 already, with DDR2 clocked all the way up to 1,200MHz? still in pre=pro though, but probably out in the next couple months.

True but with current limitations on chipsets, I'd wanna see benches on AM2 for bandwidth actually. TonyOCZ hit 7k unbuffered and 11.7k buffered in his Sandra benches already

Generally, no as DDR2 as per JEDEC specification works at a VDIMM of 1.8v wherelse DDR works at VDIMM of 2.6v. So in conclusion, DDR2 runs cooler comparably when OC'ed unless you plan to whack harder voltages then active cooling is recommended

from what i read, it's cooler compare to DDR

but i might be wrong as well if it only applies to certain ddr2 chip only

Anyway.... regarding the Micron's D9 chips...

from what I understand, D9 is just a code for Micron's DDR2 chips. the superior one was the 'fat body' D9 chips. but how does the normal D9 chips overclock (which are not fat body)?

In terms of bandwidth, yes actually. Just don't expect very high DDR speeds. The highest known so far is 250Mhz

got something to ask here....

Does it mean that DDR2-800 will run at 400MHz FSB if no divider is used? meaning it is not only twice the frequency of the normal DDR400, but also twice the data rate per clock, since DDR2 is supposed to carry 2 times more data... which makes it 4 times more bandwidth compared to a DDR400?

if a system is running with both FSB and DRAM in synchronous, the memory will run four times the speed of the FSB (actual speed).

ex:

Intel 200MHz FSB (800MHz quad pumped) : DDR2-800 = 1:1

Precisely if you're running 1:1 in terms of dividers. The added gain would come in terms of bandwidth as DDR2 will carry 4 bits of data per cycle compared to 2 bits on DDR
