Today the Hackulous team on their official website mentioned that they are shutting down probably the most famous app on Cydia and (maybe?) the number one reason to jailbreak an iOS device (according to many users).
So why exactly are they shutting down Installous? Hackulous team mentions:
Installous 5 Not Working
The shutting down of Hackulous might come as a shock to many of you who had been constantly using this app for many years. Couple of months back Installous received a major upgrade, the new Installous 5 brought BitTorrent support and better optimization.
So shutting down after a major upgrade might seem a bit odd?
As you are mostly probably aware that currently there is no untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch on iOS 6, so no wonder Hackulous team mentions their forums feel like a ghost town.
We should also note that Apple started issuing take down notices to AppTrackr regarding pirated applications on apps like Installous. So they might have felt a major pressure from Apple and developers alike.
The shutting down of Installous will definitely benefit the jailbreaking community at large which is mostly associated with pirating apps. So Installous out of the way would ease some restrictions on jailbreaking.
