I would choose UK....they have good schools, city, heriot-watt, LSE etc.

But then again, there are good schools in the States too, michigan-ann arbor and wisconsin madison to name a few.

I reckon that it is easier to get a place in the UK if you have the necessary grades, an insightful personal statement and a good recommendation letter.

just as a reminder, JPA and bank negara scholarships require you to sign a long term bond.

Haha, I think you've just come out from your cave!

Mind asking if you have substantial financial background to cover your studies? I would assume a no since you're so into those scholarships even though there are bonds of maybe at least 3 years.

Have you ever heard of any unemployed qualified actuarist or semi-qualified actuarist? You think the job prospect for actuarist is limited? Yes it maybe, since nowadays all those 'cats and dogs' are flocking to study Actuarial Science. But if you could get yourself, like 4 exams passed upon graduation or even before graduation, then why bother about the probability of getting a job? Then, you would only worry about which company to apply to.

And you know why professionals such as doctors and actuarists have high wage rates? Because they are meant to have high wage rates. Number of professional qualified doctors and actuarists are always kept in a supervised proportion such that the demand for them is kept optimum. Your willingness to accept low pay may just...erm...I don't know how to put it in words. Just that I think that you need to do more research on AS before thinking of taking them. Don't ever thinking of taking them just because you get some pathetic A's in your pathetic SPM, or because you're interested in Maths. AS is simply more than those.

If you've got JPA, then bless you. 4 years thereafter, you'll be back to serve unlike a typical actuarist as you would be if you continue your studies(for further exams) and working in countries which have far more established field for actuarist. Here I simply don't see any significance between having actuarist and not having actuarist. There may be some difference between them, but I don't see much.

actually malaysia is moving towards the kind of framework where actuaries are needed. Life insurance companies need to have at least one actuary, that has already been the rule quite some time ago. I think they have also imposed this requirement on general insurers recently, not very sure though. Btw. there has not been any major solvency issues for insurance companies in malaysia due to tariffs/regulation, thats why we dont see the relevance of actuaries in malaysia, as compared to developed countries such as US, UK and Australia

if u graduate with an economics/math/actuarial science degree, and u get to work in the central bank of malaysia, i seriously dont think there is anything wrong. and since u graduated from overseas say US or UK, u stand a chance to be posted to overseas branches....yeah BNM has got a branch in UK... besides, it is easy to be head hunted icon_rolleyes.gif

i was really interested in actuarial science wen i was in form 5. So, advisor from UK edu fair adviced me to study A-levels first and must get an A for only maths paper. But when i search online bout actuarial science, i think it will b much much more harder than further maths that i'm studyin now...I take up further maths, maths, economics and physics for my a lvl subjects. I only get A for further maths, maths & physics only for my tests and exams and....my econs sucks!!! Does that mean that i have no chance in actuarial science???

There is a new thread of talking about Actuarial Science and common mistake, you may have a look here.
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1039295

May I know what is your economic result? You take 4 subjects and manage to get A for future maths, you have proven that you have enough strong of maths foundation to pursue actuarial science. But AS is not only about maths just like how the new thread has demonstrated. So, the maths part for you most likely will have no problem and science stream students have proven their learning ability is able to manage in commerce subjects long time ago.
