Which router should I get for Unifi? Trying to replace the TM router.
Currently using the router provided by TM,
L7 Networks L7-N-R2000.

1) And it is normal that wireless is weak at night?
Either the router lousy or . . .?

2) Does running Hypptv slow down connectivity?

Thanks. biggrin.gif

Try TP-Link WR841ND or WR1043ND....

For weak signals at night, try changing your wifi channels and see if there's any improvements....

Thanks for the recommendation.
but the signal strength top up to 99 - 100% atm,

Now, I'm encountering this kind of problem.
Let's say I download something, about 1,000KB/s when starting.

After like 10-15 seconds, it would go down to 0KB/s, then goes back 1,000KB/s and revert back to 0KB/s after a few seconds again.

Of course, all this never occurred when using the net through cable/LAN.

Using this : TP-LINK 150Mbps High Power Wireless USB Adapter (TL-WN7200ND)

It's high possibility that your neighborhood wireless network conflicts with yours, so when they back from work or school and starts going online, your wireless got affected.

2) Does running Hypptv slow down connectivity?
UniFi is designed to run smoothly even your HyppTV is streaming HD contents, so you shouldn't worry about it.

Download and install software inSSIDer (just google it).

Installed and see how much wifi network around your house, and try to change your wifi router channel to a channel that is less congested.

I'm facing the same issue previously when a new neighbour move in next door and having same channel as mine. The Wifi become very unstable especially at nite when they are active using it...

another possible issue that i found out is that if you added new device that using the same wireless freq 2.4GHz, it might cause interference....
Found out my new free wireless mouse actually cause interference when i do download that takes >5 minutes, the wifi transfer speed will drop and up again...
end up i throw away that free unbranded wireless mouse and use my old trusted atech mouse

hope this help...

We experienced slow network last Monday. Call in the problem to TM Call Center. Next day, TM send their contractor. They changed the DLINK router with this L7 router. Then they forgot to set the IP address to the FIXED IP provided. We therefore cannot access the Router from outside. We complained again and the next day they came again, argued with them on this point that how could they not know that this is a FIXED IP 20Mpbs account. Now we can get the landing page and login. But, I cannot get pass the router to my Internal Server. The Port routing seems not to be working. Even port 22 for SSH does not work.

Is there problem with this L7 router for port routing or TM disabled the functions?

Appreciate any feedback from the members.

Guys,

I just had unifi biz few days ago. I always leave my modem and router on 24/7. But every morning I come in my wifi is not working. I can still see the ssid but unable to connect. I have to restart the router to fix it.

Tm gave me that new L7 router with 2 big antenna. Anyone facing similar problem or know the cause/solution to this? Thanks.

Hi guys...

I am having the same problem... my LAN connection is flawles but my wifi connection is spotty at best... I can't even detect my own wifi and i am standing right in front of it...

I have tried changing the channels, wpa etc etc as stated in various forums but they were usually for the D-Link modem... with this L7 router N-R2000 I cant seem to find anything on this...
Any help? Or am I resigned to calling the Unifi fellas again. They already came once and they have no idea how to solve it...

L7 router given by TMNut has bugs in their crappy firmware. Seems like another D-Link judging from the web interface. My sis home is using one. It use channel 4 even when I set it to channel 11. Upon surveying the neighbouring wifi network, all the other wifi network with @unifi name is at channel 4. Guess they also using the crappy L7 router with defective firmware.

I strongly suggest you to change the wireless router to something else.

Mikrotik is nice & very stable, but it's OpenVPN implementation is useless but most people don't need it.
DD-WRT on newer router overloaded with unnecessary functions & codes, too unstable in my experience irregardless what chipset the router is using. Not much better than stock firmware in term of stability for certain routers.
Tomato firmware is much better than DD-WRT, stable enough to not requiring any reboots for weeks if it works well for your router. Broadcom chipset only.
OpenWRT is good if you like to toy & experimenting. Quite stable for certain routers, but don't expect it to work as expected or stable if your router is just newly supported.

Generally I would recommend Asus or Linksys with Broadcom chipset & gigabit lan if you want to use Tomato router on Unifi. Non gigabit Broadcom switch chip cannot handle VLAN 500 & 600 at the same time. Atheros chipset no problem, but if the stock firmware is unstable, you may have to resort to Open-WRT or DD-WRT.

If you don't want to use third party firmware, TP-Link with dual band wifi maybe a good alternative as it is relatively cheap. I only used the old WR1043ND before, though not exactly as stable as I wanted it to be, it is still much better than all my crap D-Links.

Called customer support and they advised to cahnge few settings

In Manual Wireless setting,
Disable/Unmark : Enable Auto Channel Scan

I've been using this L7 router for a few months now and facing problems on and off. Sometimes the WiFi light is off after I leave it on overnight, and I have to restart it.

As I type this now, the Internet indicator light on the router is off (it should be on always) but I can still access the internet for some reason.

Might need a replacement soon...

u need to tick dual LAN to enable in static IP mode..so if u have 1 static ip mean u can use only 1 LAN cable only...but u can use wifi as many as u want in IP range...normal 100-199...so u have 99 user can connect...but just wifi...LAN only 1 pc only...usually is server or switch or firewall...

INFO

and for fix Wifi L7..u can try these software... DOWNLOAD or DOWNLOAD ...download and open the L7_FixTool_v1.00b05.exe...MUST USE CABLE FROM PC TO ROUTER...and just RUN..wait till finish...

1)      Fixed wireless channel to 7 or 8 (not recommended to set below 6 due to interference)

2)      Change the wireless mode to b/g only (to eliminate 802.11n wireless broadcast)

Disertakan juga configuration & troubleshooting guideline L7-N-R2000 untuk rujukan pihak tuan.

FIRMWARE UPDATE L7 1.06 (MOST STABLE VERSION)

if L7 problem like connect but not browse, wifi problem, please see ur version in 192.168.0.1..if use 1.08 please downgrade...

Applied it on my router successfully

I have set the wireless mode to g only with channel 7 after testing 6,7,8 and Scan channel (with 3 samples each) since it's the most stable

Thanks for the tip

You may have to call the UniFi center to get the technician help you to change it.

But, you may also try to upgrade/downgrade the router firmware first before calling the UniFi center (TMUC).

Seem like we all have the same problem. Using the L7 router provided by TM, the wifi sometimes just dropped, no response. I need to switch off and on the router until it back to normal. I got no problem with LAN, just wifi.

What's the solution to fix this problem? Is it better change a new router?

hi all sifus,

I just got unifi installed. The wireless router given is L7 NR2000 (DIR-614):

Product Page: DIR-614 Hardware Version: A1 Firmware Version: 1.05TM

I know that I need to some settings to make it secure and to optimize it for better wifi performance. I bumped into the following link that's very excellent but it is for DIR 615:

6 Things To Do when you got your Unifi Wireless Router D-Link Dir-615

i have no problem assigning the login password, and have also changed the SSID name and wifi sec. key. But, I have problem finding where to do these:

4. Enable WAN to LAN Firewall

5. Block WAN Ping Responce, Block FTP, Block Telnet and what so ever.

6. Change Wireless Bandwidth Frequency to 20MHz

the interface of DIR-614 and DIR-615 is quite different.

I'd like to know if there is any similar site for DIR-614? It would be a great help! notworthy.gif

I had a similar situation like you.

When I installed my Unifi VIP5 three weeks ago, TM gave me an Innatech RG4332 wireless router.

The damn thing cannot port-forward 25565, which I needed for hosting my Minecraft server.

DDNS support is also broken. Sometimes my server hostname is not pointing to the current WAN IP address.

So I bought an ASUS RT-N12 D1 to replace the damn thing.

Porblem solved. rclxms.gif
