I don't think QoS can be use on internet. I only know QoS work when there are data transfer in the network that consume lots of bandwidth, like 100mbps something. For the internet, I don't think so.

Not so sure about your speed, but the reason why your IP change is if you use the default setting of router, your IP will change coz router default will refresh IPs, usually around 1 month it will change. If you want to have same IP, you have to use static ip or set the ip for yourself instead of letting the router "give" you the ip.

Not all routers support QoS. Some router with crappy QoS also. Some need firmware modification den only have a good Qos.

Now i'm using a old pc as a router and installed pfSense. The Traffic shaping is superb.

QUOTE(kando @ Dec 5 2005, 07:36 PM)
First of all, i really appreciate those who's trying to help. but for the rest, i don't post a thread for your lecture ok?

First of all, my housemate couldn't afford to subscribe a new line because of the initial activation and installation fees.  He begged me to share the line with him coz he said he just want to sometimes surf the net and chat with msn, and he promised that he's not going to use p2p.  So, I'm kind enough to share my bandwidth to him.  we're not staying in the same room, so who knows if he could end up using p2p software to rape my bandwidth? I don't really know him well ok?

Charging him RM40 a month, i have to purposely go and buy a wireless router and share the line, i paid all the installation and activation, and i have to pay RM88+RM25 every month, wasn't that fair enough? If he wants to use p2p or so called 'fair' bandwidth, he can always go ahead and install a line by himself.

Last but not least, why do you want a 24hr online if you're not using p2p? do u really need to be online while you're sleeping???
*

Hey kando.. if no 24 hours online and nt asking for our lecture.. then why ur asking on how to go thru this prob?.. 40 a month bt no 24 hours online..if others, they might shoot u man!.. haha

Hi all, I'm using TP Link TD-W8910G 54M ADSL2+ router.
I want to set QoS for my own pc to use 50% of the bandwidth. Is this do-able? I'm on 512k line...

I read the user guide but I have no idea how to set them. Need advice from gurus here. Following is screenshot of QoS page from my router.
