hmm, u need ram dividers to get that fsb as ur ram cannot run at 1:1 ratio, try lower divider and see... and also go googling around about k8 overclocking guide, its not easy to get 3ghz and it also depends on luck to hit 3ghz...

opty170 with 10X multi was the most easy opty to OC.

due to dual core architechtual, it was way too hot that u might try to cool it below 60C.
another thing is try to check your stepping for this opty170. some good stepping can go
3Ghz but mostly they will stop around 2.8Ghz, i had mine last time running the most at 2.9Ghz with air cooler.

TR 90C was a great choice, but try to use more powerfull fans, as it's full cooper, may need powerfull fan to
perform it's best.

another thing was ram divider. try to set as low as possible, while up the fsb of your system so that u can know
your opty's limit. then fro there you can start to compensate the best speed and timing.

happy oc.

Hehe, thats correct. Depended on steppings, it can tell us how far it can go but all 939 Opty are very overclockable. This is so damm true brows.gif

yes, as long as socket 939.
mobo may not support officially (not in list) but it still boots and clocks well.

Hi all Opteron gurus,

I bought a 2nd hand Opty 170 (CCBWE 0546XPMW) few weeks ago and only now trying to learn to overclock.

My casing is a Shuttle SN25P with nForce4 Shuttle mobo.

RAM is Kingston value RAM DDR-400 with 3-3-3-8 timings.

My question is, since my RAM sucks, is it worthwhile to overclock using RAM divider? Settings should be like this=

FSB = 240Mhz
CPU multi = 10x
CPU speed = 2.4GHz
RAM setting = 166Mhz (actual speed = 166/200*240 = 200Mhz, stock)
HTT multi = 4x (960 Mhz)

I tried that setting and it boots fine, but I haven't done any stress test yet. It feels a bit slower than stock tho, so I reverted back to stock settings. Takut... First time overclock..

I have a backup 3200+ Venice in case anything happens.

Please advice.
