WARNING/PRECAUTION:QUOTE 1.) I am not responsible for anything happen to your devices. This is the MOST COMMON and BASIC rules and regulation for flashing a device. 2.) There's 3 major ROM groups for Samsung Captivate, MIUI/CyanogenMOD(Gingerbread) ROM, Samsung Gingerbread based Custom ROM and Samsung Froyo/Eclair based Custom ROM. DO NOT CROSS FLASH THEIR STUFFS. 3.) Battery, make sure it's FULL or still have long way to be finished before flashing anything. 4.) Always use Odin 1 Click to go back to STOCK ROM. Flashing Samsung Froyo/Eclair based Custom ROMs or MIUI/CyanogenMOD ROMs - Guide/Tutorials:» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Flashing MIUI/CM7 ROMs or other Samsung Froyo/Eclair based Custom ROMs: 1.) Download AIO Captivate Toolbox. Install it.
2.) Open up AIO Captivate Toolbox, click on "Install Drivers".
3.) After finish install those drivers, you can either choose to "Flash Custom ROM", "Root the Phone" or "Flash to Stock", etc to play with them. Make sure your phone is in Debugging Mode 1st before applying them. But don't play 1st. Follow the step below.
4.) 1st, Flash to Stock(if you're not in Stock ROM aka Official Eclair or Official Froyo). Follow the on-screen instruction. Skip this if you're on Stock ROM.
5.) 2nd, Root the Phone. Just follow the on-screen instruction that the AIO Captivate Toolbox said. Rooted users can skip this.
6.) 3rd, only Flash Custom ROM. Follow the on-screen instruction. Take note that you'll need to download a "Custom ROM.zip". Else, you won't flash anything at all because the AIO Captivate Toolbox will prompt you to choose a ROM from your PC to flash the phone.
7.) If you followed those on-screen instruction nicely, you'll now in a CWM(ClockworkMod) aka Recovery Mode.
8.) For MIUI/CM7 ROMs, please apply the "Wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition" in the CWM 1st before you flash the ROM(ROM.zip). For other ROMs, just flash the ROM(ROM.zip) straight.
9.) After finish flashing the ROM, the 1st boot will be slower, just wait for it. Do not TURN OFF THE PHONE for no reason!
Flashing older MIUI/CM7 ROMs to newer MIUI/CyanogenMOD ROMs: 1.) Put the .zip(the new MIUI/CM7 ROM) you downloaded into your SD Card.
2.) Boot into Recovery Mode(aka CWM). How to get into this mode? Read up my post above. Select "Mounts and Storage".
3.) Select "format /system" and apply it. Then, select "format /cache" and apply it.
4.) Go back to CWM Main Menu, select "install zip from sdcard". Find the .zip file you put. Apply it. Reboot. Done.

Download the MIUI/CM7 based CWM Flashable Files you wanted(they're usually .zip files, take note for this, do not extract!), and put it into your Internal SD Card. If the .zip files are KERNELs(aka you're going to flash a new kernel on your MIUI/CM7 ROM), make sure you download the Ultimate Kernel Cleaning Script 1st(it's another .zip file, do not extract it!). And put the script into your Internal SD Card as well.
2.) Get into Recovery Mode aka CWM(read above, I already included the way to do it), select "install zip from sdcard".
3.) Then, select "choose zip from sdcard".
4.) Find the Ultimate Kernel Cleaning Script to flash 1st if you're going to flash a kernel later(skip this if you're not flashing a kernel). Do not reboot after flashing the script. Select "install zip from sdcard", then, "choose zip from sdcard" again. Now, find the .zip file(the kernel in this case here) to flash.
5.) Select "reboot system now"(it's located at the main menu page of CWM, you should able to get there by selecting "+++++Go Back+++++"). Your phone will be restarted. You'll have the new kernel or stuffs you flashed after the reboot.
Flashing Custom Kernels, Modems, or some other CWM flashable stuffs for Froyo/Eclair based Custom ROMs: 1.) Download a Samsung Captivate CWM Flashable File(it's a .zip file, take note for this, do not extract it!) and put it into your Internal SD Card.

Flashing Samsung Gingerbread/Ice Cream Sandwich based Custom ROMs(not necessary for CM7/MIUI ROM, but, CM7/MIUI ROM should be running better by using this method as you've an upgraded bootloaders) - Tutorials/Guide:» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « 1.) Flash to Stock 1st by using AIO Captivate Toolbox if you're afraid. I do not Flash to Stock as it's really not needed to begin with. 2.) After that, download a Samsung Gingerbread based Custom ROM like Mosaic ROM, Fasty ROM, ApeX ROM, Fusion ROM, MIUI/CyanogenMOD ROM(also can), etc and put it into your Internal SD Card. Take note, leave it as .zip file as it is to begin with. DO NOT EXTRACT THEM! 3.) Not recommended(do not bother this already please): Then, follow this tutorials(GT-i9000 Gingerbread Bootloaders and STOCK Gingerbread ROM), http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...4&highlight=tut or download this(aka ApeX Flasher, better than GT-i9000 Gingerbread Bootloaders because it has Captivate Gingerbread Bootloaders), http://www.mediafire.com/?0udaduna7j4i7xe and read the instruction inside. Recommended: Download this Odin 1 Click to STOCK Gingerbread UCKF1(with Captivate Gingerbread Bootloaders) and flash it, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127249. After that, download this DarkCore Kernel and flash it, http://www.mediafire.com/?f3nw840r4u34lsi. Turn off the phone by pulling out the battery after flashing the kernel. And, you'll need DOWNLOAD MODE in your phone to flash Odin/Heimdall based stuffs. How to get into Download Mode? Read some posts above. Thanks. 4.) After done the above steps(your Captivate will have Gingerbread Bootloaders which allow you to use any Gingerbread ROMs), go into Recovery Mode aka CWM(I already included how to get into this mode in this thread, please read the posts above), select "install zip from sdcard", then, select "choose zip from sdcard", find the .zip file you put. Apply it. Reboot. 5.) Done. It takes a very long time for the 1st reboot after flashing a new ROM. So, do not worry or turn off the phone for no reason. How to UNBRICK the Samsung Captivate if it's BRICKED - Guide/Tutorials:Solution A: QUOTE Get/Buy USB Jig for Samsung Galaxy S and it's variants @ Garage Sales of Lowyat.net - HEREUSB Jig is used to recover dead or bricked Samsung Galaxy S Phones and put them into Download Mode. So, they can be flashed again to become usable. Solution B: QUOTE Do the following steps, 1. Un-plug usb from Phone(But still plugged into the Computer). 2. Pull Battery. 3. Let the Phone sit for 15 to 30 seconds. 4. Plug in USB to Both Phone & PC. 5. Hold Both Volume Buttons. 6. Put Battery in while still holding all Volume Buttons. 7. Download Mode should be there already for fixing up the phone. Solution C: QUOTE Unsafe ways to go back to STOCK Eclair from Gingerbread ROM(with Gingerbread Bootloaders installed):» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « - ODIN JF6 with 3 Button Combo Fix(aka flash to stock using Odin 3-Button Fix) – this will only downgrade the secondary boot loader leaving the primary one untouched. If you ever flash ODIN packages and is mentioned that they include boot loader(s) make sure that they include them both!! BY USING THIS METHOD TO GO BACK TO STOCK FROM MY ROM OR ANY OTHER GINGERBREAD ROM THAT UPDATED BOOT LOADERS, YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE!! - You may use this method ONLY AFTER using OdinOneClick Downloader as that method will revert the primary boot loader as well. HARDBRICK can't be cured at all cost basically, unless, you've the JTAG or you send it for warranty. This post has been edited by DarkSilver: Aug 11 2011, 08:03 PM

Honeycomb is for Tablet basically. But, some XDA developers have ported it over to SGS GT-i9000 and SGS Captivate. SGS Vibrant will get it soon also. fonda82, Flashing MIUI/CM7 ROM updates are simply, boot into CWM and flash the new ROM.zip file. MIUI/CM7 ROMs are not WIPE RELEASE. That's why you'll have all your applications and settings retained the same as before... Simplest and fastest update! Kyozen, I know some ROMs are able to read those words.
