most probably it's screwed liao ...

try plugging it to other system.

Skymedi is the *actual* chipset manufacturer. When they OEM their chipsets to Kingston, it comes with an initilization software to low-level format the drives according to their client's specs (in this case, Kingston).

That's why ur brand new unit is labelled as Kingston, etc. etc.

It is also these OEM application that forged units are made too (unbelievable 64/128GB sold at 1GB's price, remember those con cases?)

on a sub-standard, cheapo drives, sometimes and somehow it was *reset* back to OEM settings. <-- this is a very tricky process because only Kingston can restore it!

yeah, the reason is tha diffrent Flash manufacturers have different specs/settings.

the oem tool is used to determine the optimum & safe settings to tap the performance of the chip.

Anyone tested the new Cruzer out there? How good is it? I am needing to purchase another thumbdrive and so far, only the Cruzer had been satisfying. Good speed at cheap price. So, i am wondering, whether the new Cruzer are any better?

Looking to get myself another thumbdrive (after my old 2gb & 8gb Sandisk Cruzer are starting to give some problem). And i saw those new design Sandisk on sale as well. Just wonder, how is the speed compared to the older Sandisk Cruzer? Looking to get the 16GB version though and wondering whats the speed of the new design Cruzer and how does it fare against the new One Touch Backup Cruzer as well. Cause the price i am seeing doesn't differ too much. Probably RM110+ compared with RM140+.

May I know among the entry priced flash drives (ie RM30 = 4 GB and RM50 = 8 GB type) which brand and its model offer the following:
1) Fast Read and Write speed
2) Password protection.
