Most people here goes for max performance with the extra money I see.

Anyone knows what is the fastest 16GB drive under or around RM100?
The fastest I've seen is the Kingmax U-drive with 20MB/s read 10MB/s write based on the datasheet. I don't know whether those figures are real or not, but at RM99 a pop, sure worth to be considered.

Well, one of the best price to performance ratio is the Sandisk Cruzer Micro. smile.gif

But still, 8MB/s is nothing to scream about.

I search all of the Lowyat pricelist and only Viewnet is selling it.

Anyways, looking at the higher end bracket, write speed wise, Voyager GT or Cruzer Contour?

Come to think about it, I've lost many thumbdrives, all being left there and not unplugged.

This time, I'm gonna get a lanyard and tie it to my bag.
The Contour doesn't seem to have any holes to tie on, so I'm leaning on the Voyager GT, as there's a place to tie something on and it comes with a lanyard as well.

Anyways, I found a review on Kingmax u-drive 16GB, it's in chinese, but I don't know the accuracy of it. With Kingston DT100 doing 14.1MB/s write?
link
Can this one be trusted? Because, if it's accurate enough, these would be as close to those premium, faster drives at, 'normal' price

Here is something for your reference.

Will this be enough to sway you over to the Contour? brows.gif
Anyway, the Contour does come with a pouch for you to tie the lanyard to.

Took the jump and went for a Voyager GT.

The Atto Benchmark shows good scores, but sadly it operates at around 12 - 15MB/s write. Getting about 27Read and 13 Write on HD Bench, is this too slow? All these are under FAT32.

Using NTFS, quick formatted at 16KB blocks, I get about 11MB/s - 13MB/s Using Teracopy
A full NTFS format at default allocation size resulted in a fluctuation of 5MB/s - 10MB/s.

A weird observation. I had to format the thing in FAT32 using the one recommended at the Corsair Forum and then quick format it at 16KB to get those speeds. Pretty much a disappointment this thing, but still good enough for my daily needs.

It's here. http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/sdfv2000.exe

While transferring 6GB worth of movies today, I had an average of around 14MB/s. Much better than the benchmarks.

based on info gathering on the net for sometime, i think the Sandisk Cruzer Contour is the faster one.

The high speed voyager is the Voyager GT 8GB, which is unfortunately not available in lowyat (AFAIK). The 16GB voyager GT is reported to be of only middling performance.
Bought a 16gb Contour. Havent done any benchmarks per se. biggrin.gif

Nope. I full format using the app. And then quick format using the windows built in one, since it was impossible to format to NTFS using the SD formatter.

Yeah, that's what I did. Default is at 32KB blocks i think. I went to some chinese forum where they were discussing about Apacer AH321 with Samsung MLCs. Some guy got better speeds by using 16KB blocks, so i gave it a try. Got about 1MB/s improvement from what I can recall.
