RAM Handbook
QUOTE In most motherboards, numerous settings can be found to optimize your memory. These settings are often found the Advanced Chipset section of the popular award bioses. In certain instances, the settings maybe placed in odd locations, so please consult your motherboard manual for specific information. Below are common latency options: Command rate - is the delay (in clock cycles) between when chip select is asserted (i.e. the RAM is selected) and commands (i.e. Activate Row) can be issued to the RAM. Typical values are 1T (one clock cycle) and 2T (two clock cycles). CAS (Column Address Strobe or Column Address Select) - is the number of clock cycles (or Ticks, denoted with T) between the issuance of the READ command and when the data arrives at the data bus. Memory can be visualized as a table of cell locations and the CAS delay is invoked every time the column changes, which is more often than row changing. tRP (RAS Precharge Delay) - is the speed or length of time that it takes DRAM to terminate one row access and start another. In simpler terms, it means switching memory banks. tRCD (RAS (Row Access Strobe) to CAS delay) - As it says it's the time between RAS and CAS access, ie. the delay between when a memory bank is activated to when a read/write command is sent to that bank. Picture an Excel spreadsheet with a number across the top and along the left side. They numbers down the left side represent the Rows and the numbers across the top represent the Columns. The time it would take you, for example, to move down to Row 20 and across to Column 20 is RAS to CAS. tRAS (Active to Precharge or Active Precharge Delay) - controls the length of the delay between the activation and precharge commands ---- basically how long after activation can the access cycle be started again. This influences row activation time which is taken into account when memory has hit the last column in a specific row, or when an entirely different memory location is requested. These timings or delays occur in a particular order. When a Row of memory is activated to be read by the memory controller, there is a delay before the data on that Row is ready to be accessed, this is known as tRCD (RAS to CAS, or Row Address Strobe to Column Access Strobe delay). Once the contents of the row have been activated, a read command is sent, again by the memory controller, and the delay before it starts actually reading is the CAS (Column Access Strobe) latency. When reading is complete, the Row of data must be de-activated, which requires another delay, known as tRP (RAS Precharge), before another Row can be activated. The final value is tRAS, which occurs whenever the controller has to address different rows in a RAM chip. Once a row is activated, it cannot be de-activated until the delay of tRAS is over. I am a AMD FX-62 user. I suddenly faced system crashed problem as my CPU clock rise 5% from its original clock. May i know the how to properly clock the CPU without crashing the system?
And to what certain extend do i have to check in order to make sure that the clock is already stable. |

I just recently change my processor to the AMD Opteron 165.I heard that the Opteron is quite a good OCer but i am a pure noob in term of OC.Can anyone give me some guidelines on where should i start and what i need?
I have read the first few post which was really helpful.Would those AMD64 OCing guide can still be applied to the Opteron? |

Hi, i had recently tried to OC my Opty 165.I never tried OC before and had read several article posted in the first post to learn how to do so.Anyway, from what i learned, i could OC my proc simply by changing the Clock Frequency of my proc which is at default 200Mhz..
Anyway, there is a problem. When i pushed my Clock Frequency to 210Mhz, it already cant boot into windows.Keep on restarting. What might be the problem now? What else should i change in order to clock even higher? What might be holding my OC from going up? This is my spec : AMD Opteron 165 2 * 512 Corsair PC3200 Pro LED (3-3-3-8) Gigabyte K8N-SLI |

Guys, one question here, before this, i'm using an ATI X1800XL card, so i can use ATI Tool to manage the card, however, i didn't use ATI Tool to overclock my graphic card as i'm afraid of losing my graphic card...
**However, my afraid of overclocking doesn't attached to overclocking CPU & Rams The question is, i can use ATI Tool to set my graphic card heatsink fan to run at maximum speed 24/7, this is my question, is there any software that i can use to set my graphic card heatsink fan to run at maximum speed just like what ATI Tool did for my X1800XL? Can i use ATI Tool for that purpose? Help me... |

Hmm... How can i explain it Ok, before this, i'm using an ATI X1800XL card for my pc, and i'm using ATI Tool to control the heatsink fan speed to run at the maximum speed all the time when the pc is turned on... And right now, i've changed my X1800XL to Nvidia 7900GT, my question is, is there any software that can do the job like the ATI tool? What i meant is, is there any software that can be used to control the fan speed on my stock heatsink fan for my 7900GT? Right now, i'm using Riva Tuner, but i don't quite understand that program as it's rather confusing me more than the ATI tool, ATI tool is quite easy to understand while Riva Tuner is bringing me a headache... Ni kalau soalan aku still memeningkan, terpaksa la aku tulis dalam bahasa melayu plak... Edit: Can i use ATI Tool on my Nvidia 7900GT card? I'm not going to overclock my card, as i'm afraid of losing my graphic card, i just want the fan speed on the stock heatsink to run at maximum speed, that's all... Sorry, newbie sangat ni, dalam hidup aku baru dua kali aku guna Nvidia nye graphic card... Help me... Edit: one more question: Can i use SLi 7900GT on my Asus P5WD2-E Premium motherboard? [It's using Intel 975X chipset and it only supports crossfire but not SLi] I've heard that there is some motherboard bios modification that can be done to enable my motherboard to run SLi mode rather than just Crossfire. Or is it Nvidia Driver mod? Help Me, really newbie in using Nvidia Cards... This post has been edited by sHawTY: Jan 8 2007, 01:33 AM |
