Hello Forum. I was thinking of making a custom computer. preferably gaming but affordable. since im 16, i don't know much on the right or good specs, as long affordable.

so i was thinking of this

Intel Core i5
Windows 7 Home/Premium
Gigabyte MOBO
nVidia GeForce GTX 460
2 or 4 GB DDR3 RAM
Cooler Master Fan
500GM WesternDigital HDD (cannot afford sdd sweat.gif)
Logitech Gaming Accesories (keyboard + mouse)
UniFi Broadband

Some things I need your help and recommendation
Monitor
Cooling Fan
Computer Case

What do you think? Good enough or just plain dumb?

My budget is around 3-4K. Can afford all this?

I am in fact an Ubuntu user and this is a gaming rig..not much games are available for Ubuntu
Even if you want to use Wine to emulate only a few games are compatible with Wine..
So in the end it is still limited to pirated Windows 7 just so that TS can play almost every game..

Nope, you cant. Gotta lower the spec to fit your budget and it's gonna be AMD realm for lower budget rigs. Unless you have an OS or you don't need a monitor.

Option 1:
Phenom II X4 955 BE - RM439
Asus M4A77TD motherboard (supports up to Phenom II X6 1100T BE) - RM255
Corsair/Kingston 4GB DDR3-1333 x1 - RM124
Sapphire HD5770 1GB DDR5 - RM430
Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB hard disk - RM119
Liteon DVD writer - RM65
Silverstone Strider 500W power supply - RM219
Coolermaster Elite 370 casing - RM139
Acer S201HL 20" monitor - RM365
Edifier M1335 2.1 speakers - RM119
Logitech G1 mouse and keyboard combo - RM80
Windows 7 Home Premium Retail - RM359
Additional 12CM fan for front intake - RM25

RM2738 total

Option 2:
Athlon II X4 635 - RM299
Asus M4N68T-M motherboard - RM190
Corsair/Kingston 4GB DDR3-1333 x1 - RM124
Leadtek GTX460 1GB DDR5 OC - RM589
Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB hard disk - RM119
Liteon DVD writer - RM65
Silverstone Strider 500W power supply - RM219
Coolermaster Elite 370 casing - RM139
Acer S201HL 20" monitor - RM365
Edifier M1335 2.1 speakers - RM119
Logitech G1 mouse and keyboard combo - RM80
Windows 7 Home Premium Retail - RM359

Processor comes with fan heatsink. I've also included 12cm fan for intake to improve the cooling. It should be around RM25 or less.

You wouldn't be able to use your system if the processor doesn't have any cooling smile.gif.

GTX 460 smile.gif a step above HD5770.
a overclocked GTX 460 can almost match the speed of HD6870.
