all wet batteries are filled up with distilled water. There is no difference unless you're pouring red wine into it.

its just the marketing strategy to market their lead-acid battery. i brought a maintainence free battery, and i thought it is an dry cell battery.

actuallly its just fully sealed lead acid battery. I can see under the top casing it can be remove and there is a open hole that can be turn open. havent try it tho..

Usually the maintenance-free batteries by right should not need any maintenance at all but should it be drained for dunno what reasons, people usually top up with some special battery acid meant for these instead of the normal 'battery water' you find at the petrol stations... anyway, IMHO.. if your maintenance-free battery needs constant top up then it's faulty and you should send it back and claim a replacement.

I top up my maintenance free battery with battery water every 2 years. The cell caps are hidden under the sticker. Going on 8 years now with the oldest battery.

maintenance free battery have a 2 type i think...
with battery water but no need to add battery water for 6 month maybe...
then another type is dry cell lo... for dry cell how to add in battery water??? since it mention there "DRY CELL" already... haha

Bro, it's not literally dry cell. Just that the hydrogen released will be recycled so that you don't lose the electrolyte, which is water and acid.

I am blown away. This has to be a world record for the longest running battery, I reckon.

What's the brand of the battery ?
What type of car is this battery in ?
What special care do you give to it until it's able achieve a whopping 9 years now ?

To all self DIY,

While it is good to learn how to extend battery life etc in difficult times like these, but I also do hope that everyone who wishes to do so, learns & understand how dangerous batteries can potentially be too.

It is about weighing the pros & the cons, the benefit & the cost.

I have a friend who never ever bothered about cleaning his car let alone his battery. With complete 0 knowledge about batteries he wants to do it himself, despite advising him to let the battery shop do it. If anything happens he will curse his own stupidity for not listening.

Yes, wear safety google and rubber glove. Cause when you open the battery for the first time, there will be pressure which might splash the acid out. Anything you DIY need to think safety first.

Based on my extremely limited experience, it's definately more than safety eyewear & gloves. It's an entire process that makes battery service & maintence process dangerous. Besides each situation are different and different situation requires different solutions.

When I saw my friend battery's condition together with the rust caused by Acid Sulphuric inside the engine bay, it's suffice for me to suggest letting the battery shop handle the situation, instead of me trying to help out. Selfish of me but the risk is just too high.

This Panasonic maintenance free battery has an indicator to add water. The opening screw is under the sticker.
