QUOTE(breaker84 @ Mar 17 2010, 12:31 AM) Good A lot of improvements in the Javascript engine, HTML5 support is great! CSS3, only more support for pseudo classes and rounded corners that I have noticed. To get rounded corners, unlike Webkit, Gecko and KHTML, its using the valid CSS 3 element which is border-radius. Added on March 17, 2010, 1:48 amAlso, no box shadows or text shadows effect yet. Added on March 17, 2010, 4:18 amHere are some cool wallpapers too: http://mymicrosoftlife.com/2010/03/16/ie9-...and-wallpapers/ This post has been edited by JusticeDeserves: Mar 17 2010, 04:18 AM |

Q. Does Platform Preview run on Windows XP?
A. No. Internet Explorer 9’s GPU-powered graphics take advantage of new technologies available in Windows 7 and back-ported only to Windows Vista. These technologies depend on advancements in the display driver model introduced first in Windows Vista. |

Thanks JusticeDeserves for the info and link. I just downloaded it and seems it's not a full browser, but rather just the rendering engine and work side-by-side with current IE8. From the Acid3 test, it's look promising with higher score compared to IE8, but SunSpider JavaScript Benchmark is not as it was advertised. I got an average of 700+ms on my laptop compared to their reference result of 500ms.

ACID3 test for IE9: 55/100
ACID3 test for Fx3.6: 92/100 HTML5 is overrated here; we might have the idea on how it would be functioning, but think: TMNut... |

QUOTE(Instant_noodle @ Mar 19 2010, 03:35 PM) ACID3 test for IE9: 55/100 Well, it's improving compared to what IE8 achieved before. And remember, this is not the final version, it's just a test platform.ACID3 test for Fx3.6: 92/100 HTML5 is overrated here; we might have the idea on how it would be functioning, but think: TMNut... |

Holy cow... this is what I've been waiting for for such a long time... a "tech preview / alpha / runnable IE9 test"... Downloading!
Added on March 20, 2010, 8:26 pmHmm... the tests proves that IE9 is better than IE8. I also noticed that the load times of web sites has decreased. I do believe the fonts are anti-aliased? Comparing to IE8.... Replied on IE9 Test Drive... hmm... the quote boxes are weird. This post has been edited by defaultname365: Mar 20 2010, 08:26 PM |

Microsoft developing Internet Explorer 9!?
The new IE9 believed that it will support HTML5 video, boast a new Microsoft Javascript engine named "Chakra" and it will support new-fangled web technologies such as CSS3 XHTML parsing, video and audio tags (H.264/MPEG4/MP3/AAC codecs) and SVG2. IE9 will also contribute in the development of enhancements in the JQuery Javascript. Microsoft also mentioned that IE9 will provide the user to gain the faster browsing experience. Unfortunately, it will not support Windows XP. Those OS such as Vista and above will support it only. Internet Explorer 9 Preview 2 released.
QUOTE Today’s release builds on the first Platform Preview, delivering improvements to IE9’s performance, support for standards, and hardware acceleration of HTML5. We’ve also updated the test drive site with a new set of developer samples to show what developers can do with GPU-powered HTML5. As part of our commitment to enabling developers to use the Same Markup – the same HTML, CSS, and script – on the web, we have contributed many new tests to the W3C for HTML5, as well as CSS3 Media Queries and DOM. The Developer Tools in this preview include some new features to make finding and fixing markup issues easier.
